First films I remember was being taken by my mum to Reach For the Sky - at the Gaumont in Bromley - it was just up from Bromley South Station on the other side of the road High Society - at the Pullman in Lee Green which was just passed the traffic lights in the left on the road to Lewisham, think it has been a garage for many a long year.
Hav'nt seen 'Reach For The Sky' for many a year.........classic
I remember the Gaumont [ I think] ... is it still there? My main 'pictures' were in Woolwich and my first films which my Bro and Sis took me to were ' You Only Live Twice' and ZULU....

I've just been trying to remember the series where the moon left earth orbit and drifted off .....errrr... anyone remember that one??
used to be a programme on a sunday evening on channel 4, before or after the wonder years, and it had like creepy puppets in. was like a fantasy story telling thing. around 1993/94.
cant remember what it was called tho....been bugging me for ages.
The Dam Busters at the Regal in Erith (near Mitchell's department store) and Davy Crockett at the Odeon, Erith are the first films I clearly remember plus Captain Marvel (Shazam!) and Kit Carson on Saturday mornings at Woolwich Granada (I was a Young Grenadier).
T.V-wise: we got our first set in 1953 in time for Dad & most of the blokes in the street to watch the 'Matthew's' Cup Final and for Mum and the women in the street to watch the Coronation. Muffin the Mule was the big star but entertainment for kids was still radio dominated until ITV started up in 1955 and revolutionised the whole thing with imports from the U.S like Rin-Tin-Tin and British filmed series such The Buccanees and Robin Hood. The BBC had Champion the Wonder Horse and The Range Rider (and his pal, Dick West) but otherwise their programmes remained very 'education' based for kids rather than escapist ITV shows. My mum wouldn't let us have ITV and I had to go to friends houses to see it but eventually my dad put his foot down 'cos he was missing the ITV horse racing. (Apologies for going on a bit).
