Sky were saying earlier that if Palace were to be punished, they’d be demoted to the conference league which I previously understood they’d be banned from too due to another multi club ownership with. Danish side.
if the punishment is that they end up in the conference league, I think I’d rather they just stayed in the Europa as there’s a chance they’d actually win the bloody conference league and we can’t have that
They cant stay in the Conference League though, because another one of their owners has ties with Brondby (Denmark), thats been the trouble, else they'd have dropped into that competition without much problem.
Would be funny to see Brighton bypass them on the way (they are their motorway rivals after all)
Shows how far ahead of us they now are when 43% of them is worth 160m.
Could buy us, the Valley, Sparrows Lane and have about 100m left over to invest in the team.
Or, it shows you how little they are worth. The value is being in the PL and the riches that endows and the potential greater riches a good season or two opens up, not being Crystal Palace and playing at Selhurst Park.
Well yes, but they've had a bit more than a 'good season or two'. They've been in the PL for over a decade.
The value atm is just being in the PL for one season and staying in it for the next season. Being in it for a decade is a liability if you don’t have anything tangible to show for it
Agree, Im so glad we got out when we did.....
The difference is we developed the ground, extended the west stand and added another tier; added another tier to the Covered End; and filled in two of the corners. We eventually got relegated but we had something to show for our seasons in the PL. When Palace get relegated, which will happen, what will they have to show for all the money they’ve seen from their seasons in the PL ?
A state of the art Tier one academy that is starting to bring through some very exciting youth products? A crap ground but one significantly better than it was.
Lyon have been included in the Ligue 1 fixtures for next season despite being relegated to French football's second tier because of the poor state of their finances.

I may be wrong but I would guess that academy is heavily dependent upon Palace having the PL money to fund it. When PL clubs get relegated and money becomes a lot tighter then cut backs have to happen, whereas Charlton’s youth set up has kept going despite the various ownership issues and the team being in L1.
I have a feeling Palace will probably get let off and be allowed to play in Europe. But the problem if they are is that it then sets a precedent for the future.
There is no point in UEFA setting a deadline of end of March for clubs to change their ownership structures and comply with multi-club ownership rules and then when a club doesn't meet that deadline...........just allow them in anyway.

But we now have a Cat2 Academy.
It's bonkers (to me at least) that the Prem was 18 years ago. There are adult Addicks fans walking this earth who were born after our last appearance in it. But that's an aside.
Does anyone know when the Academy went from Cat1 to Cat2?

We were Cat1, right?
Don't think we were ever CAT1 as the rating is only in the last few years since we have been in L1.
Not sure if this will impact UEFA's decision on Palace, but John Textor has now resigned from his management positions at Lyon, including the Board of Directors.

By the letter of the law,it shouldnt, the cut off was sometime in March wasnt it? You just know theyre going to get away with it though

The longer it takes I’m starting to want them to play in Europe because to do so they’ll have to spend money and they’ll have less time to do it and that’ll push the prices up. This could royally fuck up their season’s preparations and their season outcome. 🤞
I don't know much about the Lyon situation other than they've got a lot of debt. But how does relegating them help anything? Surely they will make less money in a lower division and struggle even more?

What if you're one of the teams that would be playing against them in the league? Letting teams get away with financial mismanagement is exactly why things like financial fair play rules exist. It's an emotive subject, because it's unfair to punish fans if a team for the actions of ownership, but there is no easy solution to it.
Sounds like a mess, they'll be let in as soon as Lyons appeal fails
I thought Lyon's appeal succeeding would make it more likely Palace would be included.
I've probably misunderstood the situation, but I thought Lyon said, in their appeal against being demoted, that, if the appeal was successful, they would agree not to play in Europe. And I took that to mean their appeal failing would mean they're demoted to L2, but would still be in Europe, therefore making it even more impossible (if that's a phrase).

I can see it all now. UEFA will say that Palace can't play. Palace will appeal on the grounds that it was a late decision and they had to budget and plan for inclusion. The appeal will be successful and their get a trip to Europe against the rules.

My understanding: Lyon appeal succeeds- Palace Out, Lyon fails Palace In
Or the Simon Jordan understanding: Uefa are kicking this into a bush so they don't have to act. Lyon appeal succeeds- All hell breaks loose (someone is going to court), Lyon fails Palace In
I would say doesn't make a difference Palace had an (administrative) obligation, they didn't for fill it- suffer the consequences. All those say lets be fair to them take a look at the clip also.

So, to be clear, John Textor-owned Crystal Palace would benefit because another club is punished for its owner's financial mis-management. And that other owner is John Textor?

So Palace will. Despite the "rules".
The whole Euro football pyramid is Kurupt FM, innit?
Would like to see this though (could make a courtroom drama)
