Don't get me wrong im not old enough to remember but i've heard lots of stories and seen a newspaper report on viloence at wednesday charlton matches at the valley and Hillsborough...some were really really bad apparently, and then you obviously have B mob doing them over at the cup game, so that must have something to do with there desperation for trouble (vengance)
It was mainly one idiot who took a swing at a charlton fan when we were coming out. I' don't think he connected and three policeman jumped on him. There was a bit of a bad atmosphere when the two sets of fans met ( mainly cos we were singing and that pissed them off ) but nothing much more than that.
I was a bit concerned because I had my 8 year old with me but he wanted to stay and watch the police jumping on the Wednesday supporter ! He'd never seen anything like it before especially living in leafy Bedfordshire.
None of what happened deflected from what was a fantastic day .
what part of bedfordshire are you from ? the part I grew up in is far from leafy
Biggleswade. Not really leafy but compared to Plumstead where I grew up it's the Garden of Eden.
im from houghton regis, which is an absolute dive :-)
Don't take it too personally - its not an anti Charlton thing, it was exacly the same outside the ground after Towns (Udders) late equaliser a few weeks back. It was one fun filled tram back to the train station afterwards, but to be honest it was only to be expected
B mob went in their firms pub & done 'em after the game they did it all over again ..............not saying it's right but couldn't happen to a more deserving bunch
what year did this happen?
Not sure of the year but when we beat them 4 1 in the cup and Rom got two. It also featured on Danny Dyers real football factories.
Saw a few Wednesday fans waiting directly outside our gates at the end of the game, it was about 3 kids of about my age (18) and one purposefully put his shoulder in the way of a guy and immediately turned around to tell him to "F*** off" or something equally aggressive even though the guy had no cahnce of evading it. The funny thing was, the guy was about 6 foot 4 fairly well built and the kid was smaller than me! He would've got destroyed!!!
Other than that I saw one Charltoner strutting out of the ground singing the "Sheffield's a ..." chant at the top of his lungs looking like he owned the place, unsurprisingly 2 or 3 guys came up to him almost immediately, all of which were scrawny 30/40 year old chavs, as soon as they came up to him he wimped out crying out "It's only banter!!" like a scared little girl. Luckily for him the bill were right next to him when he was confronted and think he just about got away scot-free.
As Isawleaburnscore said towards the start of the thread, common sense is all that was needed to avoid any of this nonsense! Don't act like a cocky t*** after you've just won a game against a team with a hostile crowd in their city. Not smart.
I was wearing my colours in town before the game and got a bit of trouble from the locals. I thought I was going to get a belt after the match and 100% am not surprised some of them kicked off..
They will be banning away fans in the future when we play each other next
when i got out the ground and walking past our home coaches,i saw there was a group of wednesday fans comming up to charlton fans shouting ''come on you cockney c*nts''. Not sure if anything actualy happend though.
I had no problems, nor saw anything. However, one of my friends saw a Charlton fan singing "I want to go home, Sheffields a s******e I want to go home" that got a reaction, very unnecessary

I used to live in Potton, quite agree. Sedate I would call it.
Pretty pathetic really but it was always going to happen if we got a result. It is funny that they were more than happy to wade into "normal" supporters including women and kids yesterday, intimidate them and throw a punch or two but back in 2004(?) for the cup game they were slapped all over the shop when they had someone that wanted to play.
On a related note, there were some of our, probably younger lot, coming out singing yesterday including the "I wanna go home" song with the line "Sheffield's a shithole". Do yourselves a favour and engage your brains. Sheffield is an edgy place. Wednesday have enough of an element and it was 100% going to be interesting outside on that corner after the game yesterday. Do not pipe up with that and act up if you are going to scurry onto the official coach 20 yards away and let some other poor buggars that just want a quiet life pick up the pieces, or more likely themselves off the floor. If you are going to be stupid, be prepared to have someone come up and be stupid with you.
Beds, The Charlton fans singing is only going to have one outcome though, which is bringing it on top for innocent fans around them. I get your point about the scum who were going to wade into Charlton no matter what but some of our lot don't help the situation. I could not believe how some of ours were acting at sheff utd too, esp the howard pre match, singing anti Sheffield songs, as united can be very handy when they want too.

Really don't understand that song. If it's a shithole and you want to go home, then why bother going in the first place?
Only started hearing it in the past year, embarrassing song.

I agree. I dont like songs that get passed round clubs like the latest iphone app and have no real meaning to a specific club. Man city fans now singing it on Sky about Wigan (obviously forgetting their Moss Side roots although most probably wouldnt have ever gone anywhere near the place).
However by that logic it does pose the question as to why your lot sing "No one likes us, we dont care". If you really dont care that no one likes you then logically you'd stop harping on about every week for God knows how many years!
It's the same bloke who went on Jeremy Kyle, An attention seeking tw@t. In that prgramme...He was on there slagging off Sheff Utd and it was eventually them who put him in hospital!
I can understand the view point that some of are fans didnt help but my experiance certainly didnt come from me being cocky, unless not taking off my Charlton shirt and walking back to my car is seen as arrogant, compared to the way the red half of Sheffield acted after there defeat shows that it isnt even a Sheffield thing but just the Wendies.

Charlton, Aldershot, Grimbsy and Huddersfield then. Very brave!
