It is a poorly positioned exit onto the corner of leppings lane as all the mixed fans funnel as they entrance/exit to the ground. I walked out with daughter and misses and dad and walked up onto middlewood road. i saw no touble, justa lot of pissed of home fans. with many talking about how poor they were. I live in Hillsborough and don't see any trouble really. i've been in the Park Hotel , a big home fans pub close to ground on an evening to watch football and whenever i say i'm Charlton i've not had any hastle, but then i don't give it the lord of the manner nonsense. Wendesday have their 'element' as do all clubs, but with over 26k yesterday and a home defeat i think we got off lightly. Singing 'We are going up' is one thing but 'I wanna go home' is asking for a slap. What reception would a bunch of away fans get at The Valley if we'd just lost and they stood outside the ground taking the piss? Common sense prevails.
"A study was carried out by the city in 2000 to see how far the Bow Bells could be heard,[citation needed] and it was estimated that the bells would have been heard six miles to the east, five miles to the north, three miles to the south, and four miles to the west. According to the legend of Dick Whittington the bells could once be heard from as far away as Highgate.[15] The association with Cockney and the East End in the public imagination may be due to many people assuming that Bow Bells are to be found in the district of Bow, rather than the lesser known St Mary-le-Bow church. Thus while all East Enders are Cockneys, not all Cockneys are East Enders." I qualify as a coc-ker-nee under these rules.
As i said on other threads there definitely was an air of hostility around the ground yesterday. I enjoyed it in a way, aslong as it doesn't step over the line.

Scarfers and people holding kid's hands wouldnt be getting slapped thats for sure.
I said in the post match thread those singing that need to be a bit more aware of the consequences and think a bit but still no excuse for what happened. They werent calling it on as stupid as it may have been....a case of the brave in numbers against a crowd predominantly comprised of families, old folk and spotty teenagers...as has been pointed out when they faced like minded opponents in the cup game they came a bit unstuck.
A group of half a dozen blokes decided to give my (petite) wife a vile tirade then came towards us at the end of Leppings lane - I reacted like a rutting stag, then decided discretion was the better part of valour and did a U-turn and worked our way round the park.

That sounds like an exerpt out of "Danny Dyer meets Shakespeare" ;-)

Plenty of serious Wednesday milling about looking for it. If we had had the turnout of faces from last week up Sheffield it would have been carnage. Bless them - they still ain't got over the kicking they too after the cup game from 'little old charlton'. They were just looking to pick off gobby Charlton in the main on Sat. Some Charlton need to realise you can't come out the ground giving it the large one at places like that, after a result like that and expect no reaction. Orient or Fulham it is not. Any of them in the face of families and the like is bully boy tactics and bang out of order though.
It was mainly one idiot who took a swing at a charlton fan when we were coming out. I' don't think he connected and three policeman jumped on him. There was a bit of a bad atmosphere when the two sets of fans met ( mainly cos we were singing and that pissed them off ) but nothing much more than that.
I was a bit concerned because I had my 8 year old with me but he wanted to stay and watch the police jumping on the Wednesday supporter ! He'd never seen anything like it before especially living in leafy Bedfordshire.
None of what happened deflected from what was a fantastic day .
what part of bedfordshire are you from ? the part I grew up in is far from leafy
Biggleswade. Not really leafy but compared to Plumstead where I grew up it's the Garden of Eden.
im from houghton regis, which is an absolute dive :-)
Er.. my wife and I were walking towards our car. Certainly no gobbing off. Sorry to spoil your story, organiser
Perhaps understandably in the context of an upsetting incident for you you are getting the wrong end of the stick of the post I think, as it is along similar lines to what I put above. It is daft people gobbing off that isn't helping a tense situation that puts innocent people like you and your wife in the firing line. The other side of the coin is that proper Wednesday were bang out of order fronting up families and people who didn't want to know and that is pathetic. As usual, South Yorks old bill absolutely clueless and all.
Floyd, Read by last point please. They have a lot of scum who follow them but we all knew even before travelling up that it would be edgy afterwards, esp if we had a result. So it don't help any of our other fans (like you and your wife) when our lot come out giving it the large one singing sheffields a shit-hole etc, does it. Were you wearing colours Floyd? We walked out, kept our gobs shut and walked back to the Car.
ISLS - I think you get want I was getting at. Re, the ob - not enough of them true but they ain't clueless as it was all being filmed (as was the away end most the game). Think they prefer it to go off and video it these days, rather than do their actual job of prevention.
Understood now folks. The ones we drank with pre-match were about the best we've encountered. But with 25,000 you are bound to get a core of utter twats, especially those who think they are invincable at home!
When it kicked off on the way out the fans were not singing "Sheffields a shit hole" they we singing. " we are top of the league" . Charlton fans could have been singing " it's a long way to Tipperary " it didn't matter , the Wednesday supporter I saw was going to hit the first Charlton fan he came across regardless of what was sung.

Definitely true about prioritising filming over action, it might work for them in some situations but when you think about recording a load of meatheads wading into families and people that don't want to know rather than bothering to put something more preventative in place before FT it is surely a no-brainer. Anyone who has been before or who has half a brain cell knew it was going to be dicey on the corner after given the crowd, importance of the game, history, etc

I think the argument is it doesn't help proceedings and it also gets a lot of drifters interested, rather than it being a direct cause/consequence situation.
B mob went in their firms pub & done 'em after the game they did it all over again ..............not saying it's right but couldn't happen to a more deserving bunch

True but the singing was coming from a few hundred fans behind us . I was with a group who had children with them ( I had my 8 year old son me) and we weren't singing but that really didn't matter to the few nutters we saw. I don't blame the charlton fans for singing at all . Thankfully , having an experienced head on my shoulders and having grown up watching Charlton in the early 80's . I knew to get me and my son away from the situation sharpish.
Beds, The Charlton fans singing is only going to have one outcome though, which is bringing it on top for innocent fans around them. I get your point about the scum who were going to wade into Charlton no matter what but some of our lot don't help the situation. I could not believe how some of ours were acting at sheff utd too, esp the howard pre match, singing anti Sheffield songs, as united can be very handy when they want too.
To be honest despite the lack of police numbers , the few that were around soon got hold of the idiots that caused trouble and it was pretty much over a few seconds after it started. I just hope the bloke who got hit ( and I'm not convinced he did from what I saw ) is ok.
Listen this is how it was..... We came out the ground with no one singing anything then to our right about a dozen lads came bouncing across to us screaming they hate cockneys!
We took a backward step then they clumped a Charlton fan not saying a word! Then the 3 OB who were just watching them decided to jump on him! I looked around to see if we had any back up but all that was coming out was 13 and 14 year olds singing were top of the league (They have most proberly not been to a match like that before and didn't know to shut the fcuk up but we all learn when were kids!) me and a few mates cross the road to the coaches where there lads follow us over and ask us for a dance! As they are at least 20 handed and theres 6 of us including a 15 year old and 2 who have never had a fight in there lifes we decline! We then set off down the road to our car only for us to get split up! 2 of us get ambushed by about 20 of there lot so they make a retreat back to the ground where the OB are just standing there doing nothing! We manage to pick them up and make it out alive!
Summery
Thet didn't give a shit who they were slapping they just wanted to hurt people! One of mates was told by OB that when Sheff Utd come to Hillsbourgh it dosen't matter how old you are if your wearing red your dead his words!! He said that I think he mentioned Aldershot went there in a cup they bought no more then 300 but Wed still came out and went into them and Wed won so it dosen't matter if they win or loose?
We have our fair share of lads who like a dance but I know 100% we would never do anything like that!!
2 comments made by the the wed lot who ambushed us was "You haven't got Millwall to back you up today!?!?" and I quote "I have been waiting for this for years" By that comment im thinking he is one of the goons who came at us in the cup 5 years ago and got a slap as he bumped into our lot who gave it back!!
Oh and before if anyone asks this firm wern't kids they were all in there late 30s and 40s they new what they were doing!

Palace and the trains mark 2. Cowards.
Peasant northern monkeys.

Bullying pricks end off
As you say about them ones - liberty taking bullying scum. End off.
Don't know how they get off on that and feel like they have had a result. Pathetic.
You must have come out a while before us. We left with all the singing which didn't help matters.
As I said in my original post there were a lot of Wednesday milling about still and they Wernt kids - they looked the part.
Such a shame pricks like that can't leave it to like minded people as it is horrible for innocents getting caught up on that type of situation.
And your right - ours would never behave like that!!!
