Sheffield Wendies v Charlton - Preview I Team News I Pre-match thoughts

edited January 2012 in General Charlton
With resident previewer WSS stuck in the hairdressers while a rowing Toni and Guy go at it comb to comb, we're left in a pickle needing to get a preview up with limited time. So i put the call through to my old Maguluf wingman Mickey the Miner to get his balanced thoughts ahead of Saturday's big League One clash.

-------

Welcome to Sheffield. God’s own fookin' country. Oh aye lads, you’re gonna be as welcome as a bout of bird flu at pigeon club.

Coming up here, with ya clean shorts, gelled hair and ya fancy wi-fi, thinking your midfield faffing is gonna impress us ? Let me tell you for nowt, you’re nowt but middlin' and you’re gonna be oop against men. Real fookin' men. Most of our lads will have done days graft before their dirty hands pull on the famous blue and white. Ya bunch of gormless articles aren’t gonna know what’s hit ‘em.

Bye 'eck, ya Southern jessies are going to be blubberin' in ya bait box when David Hirst keep filling ya onion bag. Bradley Wright-Phillips, what kind of a fookin name is that ? The posh, double-barrelled Eton ponce. If he were a Tyke, one of his surnames would a been smashed t'over moors, whilst t’other was shooed into brackens. Wait till he sees Des Walker, Des will sup him up whilst eating a fookin' breadcake. As for Danny Hollands, i’ve two words to say t’him: Imre fookin' Varadi.

So leave the bairns at home and be prepared to get clarty. Chuffin eck, T’Wednesday will roll up sleeves and clout ya t’other side of Penines with proper football, none of this tippy tappy sh*te.

3-0 Wednesday, or near as makes n’matter, and thee s**t with sugar on fancy dans with more brass na brains will go home with tails between legs, whilst Wednesday will be ‘appy as a pig in muck.

Oop da Wednesday!”

--------

So young Michael thinks we're going to be in for a tough afternoon. How do you see the game going, and what changes, players or tactics, would you consider making ?

for all those travelling remember when in sheffield to put T' in front of every other word you speak... Going t'pub for t'larger...

got same feeling of dread i had before the preston and huddersfield game thinking were gona get a spanking but the boys raised the bar and we won both comfortably.. will take a draw right now if offerd but would be lovely to come away with 3 points.

2-1 us, kermy and morrison for us.
  • A tight draw, 0-0 or 1-1, Chrissy will not want to lose this one so I think we will play the same as when Wednesday came to the Valley, possibly hitting them on the break.

One point Saturday and beat Sheff Utd the following week will be the 4 points we are looking for.

TBH and at the risk of bringing comfort to the sad tools from the Wendies that come on this site this is the one I am most nervous about. I had my doubts about Hudds, but our blinding form helped to steady the worries there, and the outcome felt like a vidnication rather than good luck. It's our current form both in terms of quality on the pitch and points gained, goals won and conceded that makes me wonder whether this is a good time to be playing Stripy Wendy away. Heart says 3-1, and a sigh of relief, head says maybe a draw or even a clattering.
  • I'm nervous just thinking about it, God knows what I'll be like come 3 Saturday.

Tim Wiseman will be joining us for his 4th away for the season. Unfortunately his other 3 were Stevenage, Orient and Fulham.

    1-0 Wednesday

Oh sh..damn. Maybe I can make it up from Cornwall. My 4 this season have been Bournemouth, Hudds, Yeovil and Brentford (home).
  • I God knows what I'll be like come 3 Saturday.

    At a guess, sloshed.
  • It will come down to the managers getting their selection right and tactics to start with and adapted as the game goes on. Don't like Megson but he is a willey old fox and early tactical changes at the valley negated a promising start. Last season Chris's tactics were all over the place, this though he has learnt and has hardly put a foot wrong, he did at Stevenage and at orient, so megson will be out to test him.

It could be a season defining game for Wendies but not for Charlton and if we can relax into the game we have man for man a better team. I'd still go for a draw, but its a game that could go either way. Whatever happens the toop of division 3 will not look any different on saturday night.
  • Everytime we have little doubts about this team so far this season they've come back and proved us wrong. Last week against Fulham we were unlucky and created chances against a PL team and on another day we could've scored 2 or 3.

I'd take a point but I think we'll go out to win, I've only seen Wednesday at the Valley this season and thought they were very negative, they need the win more than us so hopefully they'll attack us leaving them vulnerable on the counter where we can do damage.

Probably be our first 0-0 draw of the season as neither team will want to lose.
  • uneasy feeling bout this one, 2-0 wednesday.

Think we'll do united at home though, thats the real big match

  • A tight 1-0 to us. BWP getting back on the score sheet.

With them at home, Wednesday will have to play a bit more than they did at our place, so hopefully the shocking cynicism they showed at the Valley will be less apparent this time out. This is a Megson team though so doubt it.
  • 1-3 The Addicks
  • 10-1 sheffield W

    will lose against t'addicks
  • 2-3 Charlton Bwp Green Kermorgant #Coyr
  • They will come up against our formidable defensive unit, won't be able to break us down and we will pick them off on the break - we'll be 2 up mid way through the second half and they will take Semedo off and throw another striker on as they pump long balls into our box. they will get one but as they push for the equaliser we will wrap things up 3-1.

wonder what sort of reaction our fans give semedo when he first touches the ball (if any)

i just dont wanna lose this one. a draw the most probable outcome.
  • Can't see us winning , not in a month of wednesdays , the early season form has been gone for a while and results that have gone our way in recent times have felt more of a grind than a cruise
Time for all the doughnuts who slagged off megson after a few games to eat humble pie 2-0 to "the wednesday"
And a long sad trip back for the 2000 faithful
  • 2-1. Big Yann and Pritchard. Roll on saturday.
  • If we try to imagine what the Wendies will be thinking it might be, we must not lose this otherwise the gap will be eight points ! The danger for me is that we fall back too deep, and encourage them to throw everything at us. I think it is more likely to be a high rather than low scoring draw. We desperately need BWP to find his form, he worked hard on Saturday and now we need him to work smart. The more potential danger Wednesday feel, the more caution they will show. I have positive vibes about this one, and I think that Utd will be harder next week.
  • Dont fancy us, think a 2-0 defeat which in April could be disastrous, in January isnt.

And Tim Wiseman is to be banned from coming to any further matches.

  • I have no doubt Wednesday will try to start the game positively and really come at us so I think it will be key that our defence does its job. As long as they keep it tight as we know they can, then I do think the game will come to us. I have a feeling BWP has been saving this game to break his recent drought! It will be close but I can smell those luverly 3 points mmmmmmmm!

My predictions have been a bit off recently, but I'm going for an early goal from us and a late equaliser from them, making a draw feel like a loss for the 3,000 travelling fans.

Oh, and it won't be BWP that scores...

Well, fair enough but do you think they have been playing exceptionally well recently? No they haven`t and have won games by grinding out results the same as everyone else in this league. They are more than capable of dropping points against anyone, same as we are.

Also, we haven`t exactly had much luck lately when it comes to turning points in matches(Oldham, Walsall, Orient, Fulham) . It`s time a deflection or a penalty, red card or an own goal went our way now!

  • Think both sides will be too worried about each other for it to be much of game tbh. Can see it being very tight with both of us getting men behind the ball from the off and hoping to hit the other on the break or at a set piece.

1-1...which I'd take if offered it now.

2-0 to us, BWP to score his first goal since November 19 - and after waiting 56 days, he then gets another one 12 minutes later.

Both goals in second half, after Charlton weather first-half storm. Weds get frustrated by doing everything but score (with a disallowed goal and a saved penalty along the way). We then hit them on the counter-punch ten mins into the second-half.

    Easy!
  • What I do know is that if we do win, Wednesday fans wil tell us how rubbish we were.....yawn!!!!
  • 1-1 again, 4,000 travelling hords satisfied.
  • Im nervous about this one, but then im expecting the Wednesday fans will be too ..... If we are allowed to play our football i think it may actually turn out to be a comfortable 2 - 0 to the Charlton.
  • they're great at home, our form has dipped, but my feeling is we do better in this game than the next.
  • Roared on by the 5000 travelling fans we will equalise Wednesday's first half goal at around about the 55 minute mark and it will finish 1-1.
