Technically a pre-match view but I was about early doors Saturday morning & travelled on the same mode of transport as a group of Charlton fans who got off at where I presume a boat was leaving....there was quite an attractive lady wearing a red coat. That's all.
I thought that we held them very well in the first half, and could easily have equalised early in the second. I have noticed on MOTD that Dempsey has been playing very well, and he certainly did so on Saturday. Murphy must have known that he would be abused although I don't condone that, couldn't he have warned Her Ladyship to have her Opera ear plugs at the ready ? Final thought, how would you like to watch Fulham in that passion free evironment ? I think we should start a Coach from from West London to offer them a better atmosphere.
Great day out - kids and dads, mums and grandads - 25 of us in total all friends and family and met loads more on the way. Great atmosphere. The 5 fulham fans who went with us were impressed although i think some of our comments about their support are a bit harsh as it was our day, not theirs. They said against Arsenal the ground was rocking and we all know the score when you get lower league opposition in the cup. Went to the Dukes Head to start with but arrived just as the first of the boats did so bit of a struggle getting a drink. Was a bit like a scene out of football factory but no probs and a good atmosphere. Fulham friends said felt like Millwall had come to town. I just laughed and advised them we're happy to let them take the bad press! Walked over the bridge to the Temperance and it felt like the whole of Fulham was swarming with Charlton fans. Charlton sing song in there, Bob Bolder etc in there as well. Walked to ground through park, great atmosphere and even better once in ground. Got a footballing lesson for 15 minutes, great spell after half time, needed to score then and the place would have erupted even more and i'm sure half the fulham end would have jumped up as well. Walked to putney after the game as tube jam packed. Place was mobbed. God knows how they cope when a prem side comes to town! All in all, a great day out but only those looking for a giantkilling were happy with the minnows winning comfortably in the end even if the scoreline flattered them. Come on boys. League 1 champions this year. I believe.
Great day out, we played very well, Fulham had the extra quality and it showed. But it is the first time I have felt this good after a 4 -0 loss. CP and the lads know how close we came to changing the course of this game, when he shows them the video back of the whole game they will see how well they played so massive positive and confidence boost. Pritchard was superb in the second half. In another thread I said that there was not much difference between CAFC and Fulham as football clubs. however there is a wealth of difference between the two sets of fans. If they were in the 3rd division would they take 7000 to our place? I would not swap my club for Fulhams for a kings ransom, a soul less non football ground. Well done to all that went you did the club proud.
I don't go to many away nowadays although have done most of the grounds in the top few divisions.
great atmosphere and our players had nothing to be ashamed of, had Fulham still been in the Europa things might have been different, it was a great game of football overall.
standing up the whole match and the bouncy bouncy things, plus lets pretend we've scored and all the other songs were amazing to be in and no doubt to witness, from the very quiet home areas.
I don't usually comment on moans, but I think people who moan about standing should not go to away games unless there is provision for folk who find this difficult - sorry for lack of sympathy, but to moan at people for standing at an away game is quite ridiculous, we all know the score, this is football not the theatre, if you don't like it don't go and certainly don't moan at others. My friends Dad who we took with us had to stand the whole game on crutches - not one moan out of him despite clearly being hard work for him
i thought we played well, class gap showed where it really mattered up front but not one charlton player had a bad game ,i sat in the fulham end and yes they did have support and they gave sullivan a nice welcome for the second half .i really enoyed the day Fulham is a nice ground to visit i was last there 30 years ago and not an awful lot has changed although i dont expect a can of worthington bitter was £4.00 then

Enjoyed the standing all game and bouncy bouncy but usually do sit and I am sure that I will sit at my next away game.
If we had been made to sit all game either to let others see or through stewards insisting there would have been complaints so I see no reason why those that did not enjoy standing at our biggest game for years should not let their voices be heard.
both teams get 45% of the gate recipts and 10% goes to the FA.
As for the gap in class showing - I should bl***y well hope so !!! Ruiz on his own cost £9 million & I would expect their team cost at least £50 million, whereas our 11 probbaly cost no more than £1m.
Cost of our starting 11: Stockdale: £500,000 Riise: £1,500,000 Senderos: free Hangeland: £2,500,000 Kelly: free Murphy: not sure, no more than 2 million Sidwell: £3,500,000 Dempsey: £2,500,000 Dembele: £5,000,000 Zamora: £6,300,000 Ruiz: £10,000,000
Total £33,800,000 aka less than one Andy Carroll.
Anyway yes the score flattered us and Charlton had some good spells. Stockdale had a great game for us and it could've been a much tighter game if he hadn't made some of those saves he did. We were efficient when it came to scoring (4 out of 7 on-target shots, vs. 0 out of 6) and that's something that does kind of show the difference in leagues, maybe. But you played well and I'm sure most of the fans had a good day out. When it comes to our supporters I can tell you that the atmosphere for the Arsenal game the week before was VERY different. Unfortunately a game against you in the FA cup is just not all that popular and one of the smaller games we play, whereas for you lot we were probably the biggest and best team you'll play all year. Add the fact that we've been playing so many matches lately including all the Europa League ones that started in June already and it might explain why our fans just weren't all that loud.
Blimey. Says a lot on how little Fulham fans remember when Charlton is a little game for them...weren't too long ago Fulham were playing the likes of Millwall in the lower divisions!
Likewise, says the same about Charlton when they take 7,000 to Fulham, but when in the Prem struggled to shift their allocations for some London away games, like Tottenham! (my Charlton season ticket mate was fuming about the support at the time).
I know we were at the bottom of division 3 of the Football League only 15 years ago or so, and we're still a small club obviously. But when you can play and get results against Arsenal, Liverpool and Man City a game against Charlton just becomes less of a big deal. I hope that doesn't sound too much like boasting or anything, it's not supposed to be. I'm just trying to defend my club a bit against all the people talking about our sh*t support.

Fair enough sweek, £34 mill, not £50 but I think you are missing the point of golfaddicks post a bit.
Reread it with "£33 million" instead of "£50 million". I think it still stands...However, good post, and a fair point about the comparative status of our teams.

No it doesn't sound like boasting. it's spot on. There is no reason why Fulham fans would come out in their numbers to watch Charlton. The situation is only temporary though and it's only a matter of time before we are back in the same league as Fulham.

Fair enough sweek, the wheel will turn eventually, we're content with our circumstances this season and you with yours. As for the amplitude of your support, well maybe it shows when you're playing away.
Sparrows, apart from getting the money in, the prem ain't a whole lotta fun. For most clubs a win is a relief, and a loss is one step closer to some kind of financial/administrative/player revolt meltdown...too much stress. Unless you are a rich mans plaything (like Fulham?) the prem experience isn't all it's cracked up to be. West Broms strategy of not paying silly money, and not playing silly buggers is probably the way to go for most ordinary clubs.

But when you'd virtually filled your 3 sides of the ground, were winning, playing some lovely football and had 7000 away fans rocking in yer face, it seemed strange that you had no desire to create any kind of response. If you'd come to the Valley and been as noisy in the away end as we were in yours then I reckon you would've got something back, regardless of what division you were in. If it takes beating a top 4 premiership team to wake you up then that just smacks of glory hunting and re-affirms everything that is wrong about the sterile and plastic premiership.
Hangeland is a beast, and has no shortage of skill either, as well as being a real goal threat. Not surprised he has played every game but one for you this season. Surprised Wenger did not go for him. Best of luck in the cup - you did move the ball around very nicely at times. Tell Duff to wind his neck in though - totally unecessary gesture to the Putney End in his warm down and he ought to know better.
Yes, very fair comments - would be the same if the tables were turned and we were the premiership club. Do we really see the Fulham game as bigger than our next 2 though? I think we saw it as a jolly diversion and Fulham is a decent ground to visit.

Good to see someone admit it. From my view, looking outside in, it's not somewhere I'd like Millwall to be (cue laughter & hysterics). Of course, I'd love 2 years up there, just to tick a few grounds off the list, take a few thousand to the now soulless stadiums & liven things up a bit, see us possibly get a couple of freak results etc then come back down to a level we can compete at! As you say, for a club of our stature, & yours, most games become a fight for survival, trying to reach that magical 44 point mark then breathing a sigh of relief (providing it's not too late!) Paying exorbitant ticket prices, kick off times moved to suit tv, more diving, moaning, players coming & going etc.
Few Charlton mates loved it up there but admitted it lost it's spark and were quite looking forward to the Championship & even looked at the positive side of 1st division football and some real football again!
At the end of the day, you support Charlton & whoever is in that red shirt. You're not there to watch Rooney, Drogba, Silva et al.
Thanks for all the comments. And fair enough re: the 34 million vs. 50 million thing, I was just trying to show that we do tend to buy players for much less than you might think.
And you're right that the premier league isn't all that amazing. Sure it's nice to play some of the biggest clubs in the world and see famous players come by, but that doesn't mean I don't miss actually challenging for the top positions. There have been points where I wish we were a few places lower down the table even, because fighting against being relegated is more exciting than being somewhere in those 8-14 spots in the league, knowing by February-March or so that you're not going to go down, nor are you going to win anything. It does get a bit boring. The only thing you can hope for is a couple of upsets against big clubs. I wouldn't mind going down again and seeing what that would be like, and do try and watch lower league games every now and then.
Then again our Europa League adventures have been amazing. Getting to travel and playing against teams like Juventus, Hamburg and Athletico and getting so far was clearly the biggest thing we've odne.

@Nozza_ the truth around Danny's transfer isn't known. People think they know because of what they have read. Anyway it's in the past.

Wont be a massive amount but it's better than Rochdale away.
