Not a great performance, nothing to worry about though. Oldham got what they came to get, we didn't take some decent chances.
I don't mind us mixing things up and using Kermorgant's ability in the air, but there was far too much long ball yesterday.
I agree we could have done with better options from the bench and an alternative to BWP. What happens if Kermorgant comes off injured though? We saw last season how BWP struggled alongside Eccleston (so much that Pawel Abbott changed the game). It's not often BWP doesn't take good chances when they come along, we can't fit a replacement for every player on the bench.
Green and Wiggins were a threat going forward, still want to see a bit more from Green though. Has some great moments but other times looks like he can or should do better.
Powell's clearly trying to improve the central midfield, think it's looked the most balanced with Hollands and Hughes this season. Can understand why he wants to get it working with two players that can attack and defend though.
BWP wasn't lazy, had he taken one of those chances we might have gone on to win 2-0 and there'd have been little or no mention of it. Wasn't at his best but he was still a threat.
Don't think its the loss of Hughes that has affected the balance of the midfield, so much as the loss of Jackson. Playing with two offensive wide men puts pressure on both the midfield and defence and i think that has been the issue.
Best thing about yesterday for me was seeing Harry Gregory walking down Harvey Gardens before the game. One of the first players I remember from my early trips to the Valley in the late 1960s.
No real spark yesterday, but luckily no damage was done to our lead at the top.
One thing that is starting to frustrate me though, is our 'long' throws which I'm yet to see result in a goal scoring opportunity. Wish we would just take it short and try and work the ball it into a position where we can whip a ball in, instead of failing to throw the ball into a danger area.
As others have said, there was a bit too much long ball and I felt there was a lack of composure on the ball at times. Although we had enough chances to win the game, and on another day we could have scored 3 or 4.
Green is starting to show us what he can really do, and Wiggins just looks quality everytime I see him. Felt we were just lacking in the centre of midfield a little and struggling to get our foot on the ball, but this was mainly due to oldham closing down quickly.
Really don't understand why Euell is ahead of Hayes and Benson on the bench. We just need another option on the bench, instead of just bringing Waggy on with 10mins to go. Hopefully we can sort this out in January though and push on.
Still 5 points clear and 7 clear of 3rd though, so we can hardly complain and I have every confidence in Powell and the team that we will be going up come May
just cos people view the performance as not bang on, which it clearly wasn't, doesn't mean people aren't happy with the season as a whole , they're not happy with yesterdays performance
i mean it's a post match view on yesterdays match ,not a discussion about how do you feel the whole season has gone
come on it's not rocket science
some people just loving having a go at people for 'moaning' it makes their weekend.
Just another little two game blip so everybody calm down. The ref was never in charge of the game, he can ask players to hurry up as much as he wants but until he produces a yellow or two nobody ever listens. The two real highlights of delaying tactics were when they were about to take a freekick in the right back spot and their CB gently kicked the ball away. after checking the ref was not looking and the throw in that was handed onto three seperate times. Having said that we are seen as the Man City of this league by many so I expect them to come and try to knock us off our stride, there is nothing wrong with that. It is up to the ref to make sure it is does not go that as far as it did. The good thing is we still created chances even though we played poorly and on another day we would have won 3-1. So lay off Oldham they just did what they had to do, we do not want to be viewed as Arsene Wenger when he moans about the Bolton of old, it is not pretty but no team has a divine right to be allowed to play

Thank God for Scoham. Every game you read some fans' comments and think you must be going mad. Then Scoham comments and you realise you're still sane.
It was also as Oohaah predicted (and I thought, but I never predict our games on here).
Oldham were always going to be defensive, time wasting, spoilers. They did it very well.
In the 40 years I've supported Charlton twas ever thus. We have always stuggled against these type of teams & probably always will.
The odd thing is why a lot of fans don't also know what the opposition are like & how they will play.
We will get more space to play away from home & at home against the better teams, who decide they can take us on.
I wasn't at The Valley yesterday but I was at Banks Stadium a week ago and both games sound similar.
Whilst I'm ecstatic we are 5 points clear at the top I do think that the team and management have let us down in the last two games.
It is away games at places like Walsall and home games against bus parking teams that we must win, there will games against far better teams that we might loose or draw so these games are the required 3 pointers.
I hope CP shakes things up for the next game, where are Hughes and Hayes, what about Smith or one of our young players, surely they are worthy of the bench if nothing else.
Yes we are top but we shouldn't be complacent, if Yann had needed subbing there was no replacements on the bench, that is just not good enough, a good manager is one who can turn it round when form dips and draws against Walsall and Oldham are a dip in form of a team that wants to finish first or second.
Early on in the game i did think it was going to be one of those games where chances would go begging and if we scored we would be lucky not to concede. Anyone who has seen us play Oldham the previous 2 seasons could agree.
Oldham did a Tranmere. We reacted to it early by not playing how we can with slick, patient passing football. I think the centre mid lacked energy yesterday. We should have used them as a basis to put balls through for Hogan and Danny to run onto. Big Yann was terrific up top but just because he is good in the air why do we have to play long ball when we struggle to break boring grotty teams down? Their goal was coming as we took our foot off the peddle.
I thought the Waggy sub was too late to influence the game.
I'm not having a dig and saying the season is over as quite rightly teams with no flair will look to frustrate us, especially at home. But i think a plan B against these teams is not to play into their hands with long ball.
Regarding Hughes or Russell,I prefer Hughes in the centre as i think it allows Holland to play more.
Was that Kelly Youga warming up on the pitch at half time?
The ref was insisting that when taking a throw-in the player had to be "on the green" - is that in the rules? If it is, that's the first time I've ever seen it enforced and if it's not,who the hell does he think he is???
I don't blame the ref though - we didn't do enough to win.
At one point Alex Dyer shouted at BWP to "fcuking jump", which may explain why he was so pee'd off at the end of the game.
God, who'd be an Oldham fan? The way they set out was depressing, it's no wonder the fans went mental when they got a draw, it's probably a shocker when they score with that mentality. The problem is that they're well within their rights to set out like that, and we fell for it. We must be smarter as a team. They niggled at our players and wasted time, helped no end by a ref who seemed to be trying to hard not to be seen pandering to the home fans that he ended up being ludicrously unfair to Charlton. Their goalkeeper's time wasting reached a point where we were counting the seconds the keeper took to take the pass and he still didn't do anything. Ridiculous. But then who is surprised? I wasn't and the players shouldn't have been , but the players still let it get to them, got angry at the linesman instead of getting the ball up the field intelligently. On another day we would have won that and they scored with what must have been their only shot on target in the second half but that's football.
Considering we've now let Oldham, Walsall and Tranmere do that to us I'd hope for a response against the next team who set out in such a way. On the plus side, I checked the Weds/Hudds score at 4-2 Wendys so I was delighted to see 4-4 on the board. Hopefully we'll show we can be smarter at Yeovil and banish the memories of last year's Boxing Day debacle.
"In the last two games the players and management have let us down" - well fortunately in the other 18 out of 19 they ain't done badly, god knows what they will have been doing if we go on a two game losing streak as Huddersfield just did.
We don't need a massive shake up, we just need to reflect, re trench and get on with what we are doing and that is not being beaten and picking up over two points a season and hitting 50 points around about year end.
Of course if things don't turnaround soon I fear relegation!!!!!!!
anyone else impressed by Taylor in their midfield? Green in my opinion has been very disappointing and maybe it is time Waggy was given another chance. However I think Green will come good in time, it just takes some players longer to settle in than others. Agree with all those saying we miss JJ. Russell is a better player than Hughes but with JJ being replaced by Hogan it has affected the teams balance. We desperately need another striker, Euell is no where near good enough and Benno is out of favour and definitely off. Not too bothered with yesterday's result as others went our way
Need a super fit live wire in central midfield who can dictate a more urgent pace. Maybe that was Hughes' quality, as his passing was not as good as Russell's.
Solly is great, but looking at their goal on TV he looked to be ball watching.
BWP needs more balls on the floor to run on to - like Rhodes' last goal yesterday - and (as said) too much in the air yesterday for that to happen. Green fed him through once on the floor and he nearly scored.
Defence/Hamer need to be braver and play from the back.
Ephraim is quality, rarely giving the ball away. He had less impact due to lack of space caused by slow pace to the game IMO.
Green is a real threat, although some of his final ball was uncharacteristically poor yesterday - again, perhaps due to the slow pace of the game.
The ref and linos were dreadful - totally intimidated by the Oldham players and conned, esp. by their no. 18, who was massively irritating.

The problem with Green is he's trying too hard in front of goal. Sometimes he shoots when he should pass (though he put BWP through brilliantly yesterday) and he snatches at chances, like with his first half chance. I think his confidence would take a hit if he were dropped suddenly and we might not get the most out of him after that. I do think Powell should start bringing Waggy on around the 60 minute mark though. He's never going to change the game with 5-10 minutes on the pitch

Chris Taylor is one of the best players in the division. He was on Covered End Junior's list presented to Powell pre season. Powell said we couldn't afford him & he'd probably go to a Championship club.
Having had time to reflect on yeterday's disappointing result it's another point gained towards the magical 92 points forget 100 points and all that pie in the sky stuff an average of 2 points a game should get us out of this god God-forsaken league. I have only scan read some of the posts on here but cries for BWP to be dropped is knee jerk crap. He's moody and frustrating with his laid back style granted but he's the 20 goal a season man we've been craving for since Super Clive and like all strikers they have lean spells so please lets not start digging him out. Who knows those knees might be creaking a bit and he's a confidence player that needs encouragement not moans and groans. As for team selection what we are really missing is someone who can put that telling pass through like Stephens and since he's been out we've been more of a workman like side grinding out results IMO. As we do not have a ready made replacement for Stephens it appears that to compensate SCP has gone for 2 wingers (also forced by JJ's injury) and it is they who should be providing the amunition for the strikers and it is they who are not delivering at the moment whether it be Green, Ephraim or Wagstaff. Maybe the answer is to only play one of them bring Hughes or Pritchard in and allow either of the full backs to push on more, which they didn't do yesterday. It's a blip nothing more at the moment we've lost one game in 21, are 6 points ahead of schedule and need another 44 for promotion a win / draw at Yeovil draw at Orient and win at home to Brentford will see us edging ever closer. COYR
No need for an over reaction. We took our foot of the gas when we went 1-0, which a mistake, but we still should have won. BWP missed, what, 5 chances? Most unusual.
Looking at the positives, Kermorgant was immense. Working all over the pitch, still winning headers despite his injury, fantastic performance. BWP's performance made me wonder whether he is carrying an injury, makes it essential that we look for better cover in January. The men of the match I think were Dickov and Taggart who came with a game plan that had us punting up the middle, the one thing we need to avoid. Once we were doing that I might have taken a chance and replaced BWP with Cort at the end, it was them who looked more likely to get a second goal.
Having said all that, would we have settled for a 5 point lead going into Xmas when the season started ? Yes from me.
Hopefully another lesson learned. Green/Solly got turned over a minute before the goal. Powell should have had both wide men replaced by the time they struck back. The game illustrated how important BWP is for us.
I thought BWP did very well. He wad a few half-chances, but nothing of any real quality, save for the ball that he pushed past the keeper before the keeper impeded his path. Had he gone down there I think it would have been a penalty.
BWP will score goals, but not with the chances that he got on Saturday. He was looking increasingly more frustrated as the game went on, but on another day he will be given the chances to score, and he'll put them away.
Oldham closed the game out, and they have every right to do that. We got the goal we needed and they scored with the only real threatening move they had all afternoon. With Green reluctant to drop back to defend, and tucking inside, leaving Solly no outlet top release clearances to, it was only a matter of time before they broke down our right. I would have swapped Green for Wagstaff after about 75 minutes, but either way on another day we'd have won this game. I'm confident that few teams will be able to hold us by playing this way, so I'm not, really, all that worried.
It was a real bonus to discover, on my phone, in the pub later that evening that MK Dons had lost at home to Preston. I expect we've had the little spell of increasing our lead, now we need to keep it intact until we have another run of five or six wins.

Very tough and frustrating game ending 1 - 1
It's why I feel that we may well end up more effective on the road than at The Valley.
Yann was immense in the air but ball rarely went where it needed to.
BWP sulking off at the end is hardly a new thing.
Why does Green have licence over any dead ball ? Didn't even clear the first player on some corners.

The Sun has BWP in their team of the week this morning. Just shows how differently people see things - or maybe he didn't go and made it up.
