Players That Divide Opinions

edited December 2011 in General Charlton
It's interesting to see on the Carl Leaburn thread that there's quite some differences of opinion as to how good (or not) he was.   What other Charlton players have divided opinions?

I guess the most obvious is Kish, where there is a real love/hate thing.  For me, Jerome Thomas was an odd one too, sometimes I thought he was good enough to play for England, other days I wondered how we ended up saddled with him.  Zeng Zhi as well, one of our best players from 2006 onwards or an under achieving lightweight?  I don't think he was ever good enough for us, but I know others that really rate him.

  • Paul Hayes! I think he is absolute dog turd yet a few people around me really like him ( only a few mind), for me his touch is awful and he always gives the ball away.

Kish is one of my favourites of all time.
  • I have a bit of trouble understanding how some people think Jorge Costa was awesome. I thought he was an overweight has been.

Nothing like a bit of controversy to kick start a thread!

  • I thought Darren Ambrose was brilliant for us. I hear he's still scoring goals....
  • david mooney

dog shit but some people rated him

  • For me it's always been Matt Holland it seemed liked 90 percent of cafc fans really rated him, not me though I thought he was awful and brang nothing to the team defensivley or going forward. Captain clean shorts I used to call him. I think he won the fans over with his clap at full time.
  • Rob Elliot.

Had his ups and downs but I rated him, others didn't.
  • Kelly Youga - some think he's superb, I think he's a liability
  • I have a feelin brian hughes will divide a few opinions. Always rated him myself but I know a few that wouldn't agree

Not sure if you are joking, but I didnt rate him like others did either.

Same here and I'll throw in Alex Song too. Every game I saw him play for us I thought he as lazy and uncommitted. Others seem to think the sun shone out of his arse.

Kyle Reid. Could never understand why some fans thought he was the messiah.

    This.
  • I'll agree with Alex Song, never liked him when he played for us.

I'll nominate Nicky Weaver. I liked the lad, unlike many at the club.

  • Rob Elliot.

    Agree, i liked Elliot.
  • Southend away Kyle Reid showed how good he could be and i had really high hopes for him. hoever, even for a winger, he was far too inconsistent and injured so easily.

No, I thought he was alright too, but did get the perception that wasn't a popular opinion.
  • Alan McCormack:  some though he was utter tripe, one of the worst players in our history.  others disagreed, and felt that was far too positive an assessment

OK how about Diawarra.  I thought he was pretty decent, but I know plenty didn't.  I guess there are always going to be players generally slagged off who have some supporters. More interesting/controversial are CAFC 'heroes that you just didn't rate - e.g. there must have been some people who were glad when Curbs dropped SCP and played Konchesky instead (not me).

In my case I thopught that Graham Tutt was a very dodgy keeper.  Of course that doesn't lessen the sympathy for his horrific injury, but there was 'potential England keeper' talk which was absolute tosh.  More recently, I'm with R&C on the Reidy front

  • Liked Weaver. Hated Ambrose ( lazy twat)
Loved Kish and song . Thought Fish ride his luck a lot of the time.Euell always was pony.
  • i thought varney was brilliant, remember people i sat near at the time thought very differently
  • loved alex song too

  • Never really took to Jason Euell.
  • Liked Song but thought Diawara had a 50p head!
  • I loved most of the things that Claus Jensen did, but it frustrated me no end that he didn't have a left foot, rarely tackled and didn't head the ball much.
  • I thought diawara was quality. One shocking game at wigan granted. But pardew would drop after having a brilliant game.
  • 20 odd posts and not one mention of Racon and Semedo.

I thought the pair of 'em were 5hyte by the way.
  • SuperKev.

Queensland and me thought he had something but a lot didn't!

Semedo of course. I reckon he had about a dozen good games in his time with us.
  • Alan McCormack:  some though he was utter tripe, one of the worst players in our history.  others disagreed, and felt that was far too positive an assessment

    lol

  • Semedo Shite??? What planet....
  • Cannot believe Lloyd Sam has not been mentioned. So many contrasting opinions on him both in a general context and even in specificmatches some people thinking he'd been terrible others thinking he'd had a stormer.

I personally still can't believe so many people rated / rate Wagstaff higher than him...
