  • No one should be bothered by that performance, it's the JPT, no one cares - if that happens Saturday then by all means boo - pleased to be out, roll on Saturday
  • Very sensible of powell to give morrison & taylor 45 mins each as he
had to play at least one of them. Very unimpressed with alonso but not
going to read too much into this performance. He'll need to be a hell of
a lot better to get in our midfield though.

Evina had a good game and was the stand out player (for us) in my eyes.
Doc looked like a non league player who's come out of retirement after
10 years of running a pub. Hughes not much better.
  • The game lived down to expectations. In term of the 8 players involved tonight not currently in our starting 11, only Green and Kermit are pressing for a start in the league. Sullivan and Evina would do a decent job if Hamer or Wiggins/ Jackson weren't available. These 4 + Cort should make up our bench Saturday.

Hughes and Euell are squad players at best, Alonso and Doherty nowhere near the team though in Alonso's case he may have an excuse coming back from injury.
  • I agree with Tango.

The six player rule is pointless and we'd have been better off playing a completely fresh team. Won't have to do it again.

Shame Pritchard missed the game. And the lack of regular reserve team fixtures does show.

Fingers crossed we don't get too many injuries.
  • Cort is still with Guyana so will have to be Doc again on bench unfortunately

I'd rather play BWP at CB than Doc, going on tonights performance.
  • That went perfectly to plan: we fooled everyone, no injuries or suspensions and Docherty really should be released. Kermit also thinks he's Cantona, all he need's to do now is kick a palarse fan

Ha. Despite people's hatred towards Francis I think I'd prefer him at CB than Doc,least he can run.
  • CP is not a fan of Alonso. His reactions to the raft of misplaced passes was worth the £5 entry fee.

He also booted over the drinks bottles when Stephens ignored instructions. Was not a happy bunny.

Agree with Prague Addick that alot of the performances were a consequence of no regular reserve team games.

However, no excuse for the ineptitude displayed by Doherty. Good god he was miserable.

  • Bad day at the office compared to the Reading league cup match. Move on
  • went to the game , what a waste of time , utter junk , hughes perlease mikel oh don't

    pathetic

highlight was the brentford fans singing in high pitched voices 'charlton'

  • Urghh...more negatives than positives (Evina) but ultimately just a bad day at the office. Move on and forget about it if poss'.
  • What weere the commentators on about with our cup history? We already have the People's Cup won this season, and it's only October....

Doherty was a mess and doesn't belong anywhere near the first-team, why didn't Cort play?

Alonso was dreadful but I'll let him off due to lack of match fitness, hopefully he's a bit better than that in the future though.

If we start Waggy ahead of Green this weekend then I'll be pretty annoyed, because it's clear Green can offer a lot more. Not sure about the Kermit v Hayes question.

    Court is on international duty

But he kept Alonso on. He's a footballer but he's very rusty, and needs games. Question is how does he get them? I think he needs a four week loan spell, odd as that might seem.

    Very disappointed with Alonso.
He looked rusty to be fair, but I dont buy into this thing where players cant play unless they are in perfect condition. elements of his game that shouldnt be affected by such an injury did not look to promising.

Euell is nothing. He was never great back in the day and hes not now.

Asking for it by starting Doherty.

This can be forgotten though, we'l be back to usual in the league as long as can avoid this selecton, which looks a poor comination.

Oh, to many misplaced long balls.
  • Despite Alonso giving away a penalty and some wayward passing I though he looked to play some positive passes but he's obviously rusty . I think he will come good.
  • Is it just me, or we still need another striker (assuming Benno is off) - a back up striking partnership involving Waggy doesn't convince me.  We've given it a go, and it hasn't worked!

If BWP gets crocked, we are up shit street.

One thing is for sure , Euell is not the answer ( and never was) .

  • Well done to the people who made the effort and went.

Dear Lord what a shambles in the 1st half. Utter tosh. Some looked like they couldnt play, some looked like they didnt want to play and some playing days are  long over. Its a 2 bob cup, something which many dont want us to be in ------- yet the attitude of the Brentford players showed that clearly they did want to know and did want to win.

Felt sorry for Alonso what an awful debut.
Not sure what happened to Green in 2nd half, unless he was told not to get hurt.
    Evina did well.

It was embarrassing ---but then CAFC in Cups----- it generally is.
  • The Doc's performance ( and we are stuck with his contract until June ) underscores Powell's good judgment in getting Cort in as decent cover for the season. Evina played well and at least Alonso got his first 90 minutes of the season under his belt. The lack of a reserve league is a problem in terms of match sharpness generally for our reserves.

Andy Hughes is a dispiriting player isn't he ? At 33, I'm surprised he got a two year contract, although I guess the guy must have some qualities ( albeit well hidden to the untutored eye ) and we can forgive Chris a couple of duds out of 19 - practically all the others look very good.

Brentford played very well on the night but, as others have remarked, Garry Birtles love in with them and Uwe Rosler was nauseating. We are well out of this silly competition and I'm only sorry that Huddersfield lost last night on penalties. At least Preston are through.

Never mind, the return of our back 5 and Danny Hollands - plus a totally different attitude - will make a massive difference. Roll on Saturday.
  • Quality is expected, effort is demanded.
  • Alonso didn't play tonight..it was McCormack with long hair and a beard ;)

In all respect to Alonso, it was his first game in ages, second half he improved a bit, i hope he can gain a bit more fitness so he can cover for Stephens/Hollands.
  • Good post Blucher
  • I wanted us out of this cup and we're out. I'm not going to complain about the performance (or lack of).

Looking forward to Saturdays game already. COYR.

    Both were absent friends tonight.

You do give the impression that you've never played the game.

If you had, you'd no doubt agree that sharpness and timing come with match fitness - and match fitness only comes by getting a run of games under your belt, right?

    ;o)
  • Fans should get a refund on tonight's display..
  • I went, and came home.
