he's gotten worse and having spoke to someone who played with him at southend he told me he always needed reassuring about how he'd played, a very insecure character
having said that despite flashes of a decent cross here and there he's fallen apart as a player and will be better off going somewhere where he can build his confidence back up and progress
the best thing i can say about him is that at no stage no matter how he performed did he ever hide
Francis booed before he kicks a ball for the reserves, Hayes the new scapegoat, Kermogant rubbished before he's been seen. We're top ofbthe League..........am I missing something or should some of you be on suicide watch?

We're out of the Carling Cup meaning we now have to win the FA Cup or finish runners up to a team already in Europe to get European football down The Valley next season

Sooner or later, Francis will move on....... and good luck to him; he was a player who got off to a poor start and had the monkeys on his back after that.
But then the monkeys will pick a new victim. And so the circus continues.
This. He made a (bad) mistake and got dogs abuse from some around me. About 10 seconds later Green did *exactly* the same thing (and had already at that point given the ball away/ passed to a Preston player a few times) - Nothing.

Agree. Unlike many last season (some of which got their name sung).
Liam, out of pure interest, who then in the last 20 years who have played as many games as Francis would you say was a worse player ? Genuine question, as I am struggling. Id possibly debate Faye but his ineptitude was two leagues higher which needs to be taken into consideration.
The issue on booing is a side issue, as I and I suspect the vast majority of people on here would never boo a player during a game, let alone before one.
i think the booing is less than people think and a groan gets misconstrued as a booooo
you know that reaction when the umpteenth shit footballer (who when they signed was a good signing ) that has come thru the door in recent times has given the ball away needlessly when there was no one near him or had the first touch like paul hayes did on saturday when presented with a one on one at goal .....
we as fans have been more than patient as we have fallen from such a great height to the shit we had to witness last year and there hasn't been as much terrace abuse directed at players as the performances have deserved

McCormack was the worst player in our team last year, which therefore makes him a worse player than Francis. Ok he played less than Francis (24 games against 32), but that was for a reason. Had Solly been fit for anything more than the first and last few games of the season then Francis would have played a similar amount to McCormack, or even fewer games.
Francis was signed on a free and is an average L1/L2 player, there's no shame in that, but he needs a club where as he was at Southend the expectation level matches the standard of club.
Amazing that we are top of the league and people are still trying to dig the supporters out.
It's never the players fault is it.
Its even more amazing that we are top of the league and some people boo a player before a game started.
This is not a veiled dig. This is an upfront dig. The people that did that are ****s. No matter how badly he played. They are probably the same ****s who did the same to Mooney. And who booed JonJo Shelvey. I don't know who they are or where they came from. But we didnt have people like them in the early 90s, of that I am sure. They can **** off.
One of my brothers chelsea supporting mates came for the first time last night, and at half time sarcastically said, 'wow that right backs really good, I hope he isn't in your first team' but although the dismal performance he left saying that he's definitely coming back cos he enjoyed all the singing and joking about (not that everyone joined in the singing)

The players are sensitive to the fans - I'm not saying we shouldn't be able to voice concerns re performances/ ability, but we should accept some responsibility for lifting players and bringing out the best in them.
There are a lot of Charlton players who have commented how difficult it is for home players to play well at the Valley, similarly there are a lot of away players and their fans who have picked up on and exploit the lack of patience that many of our fans display. The message is - make it difficult for Charlton at the Valley, get the crowd on the backs on their own players and things start to become a little bit easier for the opponents.
I wasn't there for reasons of work so cannot comment on Francis' performance but listened to Radio London and Steve Brown expressed the view that he needed to be substituted as he was having "one of those nights we all have from time to time."
Anyone who says he is the worst player to play for Charlton presumably never saw the likes of Jacobsen, Churchouse, Wilson etc in the late seventies to name just three.
I would also add that he has never hid in matches I've seen him play unlike the darling of Charlton life Therry Racon.
It's true that Francis isn't good enough if we have any ambition to get promoted but it's also true that he was very good against Reading.
I do get the impression that if Francis had 10 good games and one was poor , that would be the game that would be highlighted.
I wasn't at the game last night ( I was watching Mark Kinsella's , Daventry Town lose 4-0 to my local team Biggleswade town) so I can't really comment on his performance but I do feel he has been another in a long line of players that some of our supporters like to get on the back off.
The sooner Francis goes out on loan the better otherwise his confidence will be blown to smithereens .
But why the hell were people booing him before the game had even started? I read that he had a great game against Reading. Perhaps the pre match booing had something to do with his poor performance last night!
Too true. It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Boo the guy then justify it when he reacts badly.
I thought you'd left that kind of attitude behind, that this season was about the team and the fans finally getting their voices back, so to speak. The Francis situation reminds me that we're only a game away from those of you I detest relapsing into those habits that make it impossible for The Valley to become a 'fortress'. Loyal supporters indeed.

This part is entirely true, was confirmed at the end of last season, Eddie Youds acts as a Scout for Hartlepool, he told us this is what all scouts were saying about Charlton last season.
Why is all this necessary? We saw a player fall apart in front of our eyes and it wasn't pretty to watch. I found it painful and only felt very upset for him. Like Len said, he never hid and he always gave his best. Obviously it will be best for all concerned if he can quietly leave and find a club that will support him and thank him for his efforts. I don't think he was a talented player, but I can see absolutely no reason to demonise an honest player.
I'm sure booing him before he kicked a ball helped a lot. He was awful butI have given up with some of our fans - I'm coming to the conclusion that the biggest hurdle to our succes is some of them and we are better off without them. We'll have a team too nervous to play at the Valley after a few bad results if they don't change.
How about a banner - Booers go home- you are not true fans and don't represent the majority - or something like that.
"This part is entirely true, was confirmed at the end of last season, Eddie Youds acts as a Scout for Hartlepool, he told us this is what all scouts were saying about Charlton last season."
And there we have it.
This brainless moronic Charlton minority abusing/booing their own players, becomes a valuable tactic and weapon AGAINST their own team. And still they continue, not having the intelligence or wit to understand the effect on their own players.
Seriously, I had enough of them. Are they any realistic suggestions as to wat the decent and intelligent majority can do to stop them.
Yeah tell them to shut up at the game instead of complaining about it on a message board that most of them would lack the inclination or intelligence to read.
All this hand-wringing in cyberspace is about as useful as a bottle of Champagne in a mosque.

too many club apologists for my liking

Exactly, one of the players I had in mind in my earlier post.
I hope he can get out of here for his own sake more than anything else.
