class warfare? .. are you presuming that this whole rioting and looting situation is not in some measure a 'class warfare' issue ? .. Boris and Dave have no need to go out looting, they loot through the backdoor, taxation, power and politics .. I have no time for either looters or Eton old boys. As far as i am concerned both deserve one another.

Well - this is the thing. Plenty of these neanderthals have clearly said they are doing it to get back at the rich / conservatives etc. As we have discussed, what is their definition of rich? Some of the businesses they have robbed were owned by people who probably wouldnt see themselves as rich at all.
But yes - it is seen as a class war by a lot of people.
I will say this. If, for example, Labour got in and introduced taxes that (in my opinion) hurt me and my family more. Would I go out and loot a store in a measure of defiance?

That's the same argument as Damo NthStand .. I confess I might be guilty of generalising .. but how many old comprehensive boys ever get to run banks, stockbrokers or the army .. and how many old Etonians do? ... But, I guess if you believe in a self perpetuating political and business power elite, you are neither bothered nor interested.
Equally, I am very concerned about self perpetuating power elites amongst looters, thieves and gangsters0 -

You are absolutely spot on - that's exactly what I'm presuming. I am presuming that this is a bunch of out of control toerags out for some jollies cause they think they can get away with it. The kids on the streets have no political motivation. None. Don't go all Darcus Howe on me & try to portray this as legitimate rage at an unjust system. It 'aint that.

I would be very tempted to pay labour HQ a visit and put their windows in, as following the student riots they seemed to think it a legitimate form of protest.

Been an unprecedented few days and for many this thread has been compulsive reading.
Unfortunately since the rioting seems to have calmed down this thread has started to decline into an argument about politics - it's a shame that's happened and a shame you've decided to sink it (but I understand your decision).
Going to sink it now. Everyone knows it exists so please feel free to continue the debate. If the situation escalates again, we'll unsink it, but for now we'd like to return to being a predominantly football site.

This has been simmering longer than the thirteen years of Labour, and I don't think it has anything to do with politics. However, the class system over there exists big time and has lots to ansewr for.
As for Blair's kids....their inept, uncaring parents that we moan about are Thatcher's kids?

Yeah, sorry for my part in the descent into politics. I'm in Australia & have been reading this thread as a way to keep in touch with what's really happening back in blighty - and it's been a lot better than the official news. Feeling a lot of anger & frustration at not being able to be there with friends & family & it's coming out sideays at times. Up the addicks
