I would suggest Benson has told him he's happy to fight for his place, he thinks he can show Powell he'll be a first choice and we have a player who's hungry to prove that he can be an asset. I certainly do not think we've found some extra money. We've got lots ... still. I said 15/16 signings - there's more to come, so I've been told.
told ya he was looking to fight for spot, however i aint convinced that if a certain club show more interest than just the passing glance that they have so far he will be gone watch this space

Manager's Message: Fair Play To The Lad

Good morning,
It's been well documented that we haven't been able to sort out the transfer of a player to this club. Yes I'm disappointed, but no I am not upset.
On Friday, after training, I drove down to Essex to meet the player and his agent and had a good long chat, talking 90% about football and our club and the positive future.
I invited him and his family up to Notts for our game as he wanted to watch us play, to see that what I was telling him was true. After the game I spoke to him that evening and he was chuffed to bits with the way he was looked after by all our staff, the way our team played and the buzz of the crowd.
Through Sunday, I had several conversations with him and his agent, which carried on through Monday. We agreed contracts but the player had concerns about moving his young family up north. In fact, it was quite refreshing to know that he's not a money-grabber, he's not money-motivated and that his reason for not coming was for the wellbeing of his family life, so fair play to him.
The club supported this move financially in what was a big decision and I have no problem with it and nor should any of our supporters.
We will now look at other players on our list and continue to work on improving our team. I hope this now settles the whole matter and we can move on positively.
Regards
Martin
Like he says, fair play, I always thought the move to London would be the sticking point. Anyway, all the best, at least MA tried.
Possibly the board had a change of heart and we "found" the cash for another striker/CB without having to sell Benson?
I for one am pleased as Benson would be easier to sell than replace and I would certainly not have said that 9 months ago so fair play to him.
Is this where Wagstaff comes in?
Rather have a RB to be honest, that's where we are weakest. Maybe Mambo is seen as good backup for CB along with Doherty. I think we need a RB now and maybe a cb and st if possible.
What about Solly? Always looked accomplished at RB to me. LB is obviously not his position, as his performance at the Den showed. Not the tallest, but you don't have to be at full-back. Think this is his year to make RB position his own.
oh dear - looks like we're stuck with him for another year !!!!!
another greedy b*****t who is happy to take our (higher) wages for a year rather than lower ones (?) for 2 years.
Blimey, isn't Golfaddick an IFA? So he'll be taking trail commission for doing f*ck all (is that what the FA in IFA stands for?) and has the front to call a L1 player greedy!
During a breakaway at Shots, their number 10 took five yards off Solly over thirty, and I doubt he is especially pacy. This plus the height issue gives me real worries.
nice to see someone wanting to stay and fight for their place and not chasing the dollar (although Notts County chief exec says it fell through on inability to agree terms).
Don't think this will impact on other transfer plans. We were not in desperate need of the income but thought it a good deal due to Benno's age and contract length.
Really pleased he is staying. Gives us good strength in depth up front.
I can see what some people are saying on here about some of the comments people have made but it's like being at a game, you have some bell ends shouting rubbish out but you just have to ignore it. I think if you look at the content of what is said, rather than they manner it is screamed, it gives you a very good indication of how intelligent / knowledgeable that person is.

Still think he will go though !!
I guess it might still come down to the same thing...He didn't want to leave London but might have if he got 3 years. That said it irritates me when we get differing versions from about 3 different places!
Have you read the article in the sun about le fondre? Apparently Rotherham want 1.5mil for him! Bit much for an untested player in league 2 who only has a year left on his contract. Can see him going for a fraction of that, or they will lose him on a free at the end of the season. I believe Rochdale have a 40 percent sell on fee too.

That's been my concern for the past 2 years, much to the disgust of some fellow 'correspondents' who think he is the next Gary Neville
Or is it lincs because we want to see him given the chance to prove you right or wrong before we make a judgment on a kid who has come through the ranks and has excelled at every level thus far,
If he ain't good enough we will find out then
He has not played enough in his rightful position for anyone to right him off
My fault, I saw the heading Benson and didnt see the post related to Solly. Anyway, I wish Solly ALL the very best and hope he turns out as good as Billy Bonds, Bob Curtis, Danny Mills and all the other class full backs whose names I cant remember
Heard on Fighting Talk ( Five Live) on the way to the match that Jase was due to be a panellist today but had to forego that pleasure as he'd had a late call up to the squad today due to an injury to another player.

what are you saying? .. i think Benson is a decent player .. come through what ranks? .. what are you talking about?
I see, the object was Solly going on loan, not benson, see my comment under 'Francis or Solly'
Or that we can only pick five subs and someone has to miss out.
