Happy to have him staying, depending on two factors:
a. Does it scupper funding for someone CP had lined up and perhaps preferred?
b. Will it affect his confidence, feelig as if he has to convince everyone all over again? Hopefully he'll apply himself the same way Francis did yesterday.
exactly - a is correct. We are now left with 2 'dead men walking'. As i say, simple and regardless of how clever Rothko and whoever else think they are, they really need to stop taking what CP says too literally. He wants rid. End of. It's very very simple.
Nice to have your informed input Pie but I'm afraid it won't stop some calling him greedy etc if he hasn't got 25 by Christmas.
Paddy we have our own contingent who are just the same. Karl Hawley has taken such awful stick at our place booing when he came on as a sub etc, that he ended up almost paranoid about playing at home. He's been one of our best players in pre season...just needs a goal and I'm sure all his confidence will flood back..
Well, I hope it does, because unless Hughes can play every game, which at 35 I doubt, we might just face another goal drought like last year.
Anyone else heard that the O's might also be interested in Benno?
The orient story has some legs , I don't expect benno to be here this season , benno knows that he is going to be 3rd or 4th choice , in the stage of career that he is in before needs to secure the best deal possible, that at the moment is not with us in my opinion

Plan a was to keep him. He didn't invite the bid, it was just too good to turn down for an older player. Therefore, Powell didn't originally plan to get anyone else in instead,
i think all this about benno being 3rd or 4th choice is abit pre-mature. if he does well in the games and scores goals he'll be in. don't matter where you start the season in the gaffers books. it's where you are during the end. think we should keep him till jan at least.
I guess it depends if the O's are prepared to match the 150k though. He might take a 2 year deal there since he wouldn't have to move, but without that, would your board agree to let him go?
You never know, maybe we will give him the 3 years if that is the only stumbling point if they know he's not bluffing for a better deal.

that is a niave view - we want the money and wages to bring in better - CP and the new regime have never rated him.
oh dear - looks like we're stuck with him for another year !!!!!
another greedy b*****t who is happy to take our (higher) wages for a year rather than lower ones (?) for 2 years.
There was another thread questioning who would be the target of the Boo boys now that McCormack has gone. I guess there are joint favourites now vying for the song 'Two greedy Ba*tard there's only two greedy Ba*tards' as soon as they get selected and put a foot wrong. Think I would have moved on - there's still time!
I'm sure the majority of us would always do the best we can for ourselves and our family. Benson is coming towards the end of his current career and you shouldn't blame him for getting the best deal he can for himself. I would guess that for the majority of footballers their club is purely their employer just like those Lifers who have jobs would move if offered a better job by another employer.
So stop the sanctamoneos comments and just support the guy if he decides to remain at Charlton as he will score goals.
Not sure if you are referring to me Lancashire lad just my observations like them or not and I assume you meant SANCTIMONIOUS. What's religion got to do with it?

Never heard of you Dreaded, my spelling might not be as good as yours but I'm sure you know what I mean. My comments weren't aimed at anyone in particular so don't get so touchy, on this site we all have our opinions.
Glad to have him with us next season. If he gets a decent run he will score goals. Let's all be positive for the start of this season as I know players read this forum and we need to BELIEVE in them so that they can believe in themselves...

No Dreadred I wasn't referring to anyone in particular, I know my spelling isn't the best but I'm sure you know what I meant, as for your comment on religion - I have no idea what you' talking about, nor does it matter as it isn't Charltoncentric.

hope he does well if he stays but whats the point of the discussion board if all we're going to do is say nice things about players in case they are reading? I'm going to stick to saying what i mean and do my supporting when i'm at the ground.
Benno is not going to get enough goals to lead our attack as our number one two or three striker imho. Will he stay as fourth choice at his age ? I'm not sure. What I do think is that if for any reason Benno is one of our first choice strikers then we might not be going anywhere this season.

Exactly. We and CP are right about this. I accept that it's a game of opinions but some of the level of judgement on here is woeful at times. First we had the semedo/racon nonsense apparently being our strong point only to see the new regime completely rebuild the midfield as a priority. Then we had all this guff about Francis being a great crosser, now we are thinking Benson can lead us to promotion. He is as ineffective as the bloke who signed him.
I'm pleased Benno is staying and feel he will score ten plus goals for us, which alongside a load from BWP , and a more solid defence could be enough to see us promoted

Bottom line is that we are going to play around 60 games in total this season, we are going to need a big squad and everyone will get a chance to play their part.
Unless we are willing to spend 300,000+ on bringing in a hired gun from elsewhere then Benson is probably as good as we are going to get at this stage of the game.
Benson stays and we then bring in a PL loanee like Ansah or Ecclestone, that's not too bad but I would still like to see a big target-man come in too.

There is no way we will be going with 3 front line strikers. Atleast one hopefully one plus a young loanee to arrive.
