This move doesn't seem to make much sense for Benson, he seems to have been involved quite heavily in pre-season, suggesting he is in Powell's plans. If we have to sell players we consider important for £150k then that's a bit of a worry. Either way, Benson has a collumn in the Standard which implies media ambitions, failing that he has his accountancy career to fall back on. He also has a young family settled in the South East, all of these factors would point to a prefrence to staying down south.
Stop going missing in matches and win more tackles and headers.
I am not anti-Benno, but unless he bucks his ideas up and puts in a full shift, he is going to look like all those poxy loan signings we had, who were just going through the motions.
The goal at Aldershot and his header at Carlisle last year show that he has a touch of quality, but for me he needs to up his work rate and success rate in challenges.

Fair comment unless his remit from management was simply to get out there and score and leave the dirty work to the grafters. The few times I have seen him, the service to him has been abysmal. With the more skiful, better players we now have, this may well change, or rather it MUST change
I would be disapointed to see Benno go. Even if he is not a regular starter he will get games as BWP is not likely to stay fir all season and could add something from the bench. Part of season will depend whether we have people like Benno and Waggy coming off the bench and scoring goals when things arent going right
Interesting SLP article.............appears that we do not need to sell Benno & do not really want to sell him, but feel that as he is 32 and only has a year left on his contract then £150k is too good to turn down (I assume that they feel he would leave next year on a free)
Easy answer to all this............offer him an extended contract now, keeping him for an extra year or two, and therefore he wont be leaving next year for nothing !!
As they haven't done this I can only assume he wasn't "liked" by Powell - or will we be selling all or players than have just a year left on their contracts !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bit odd to see benson allowed to leave, surely cp would want him or he'd leave him back like he did with mcoxo and francis from the spain trip.
Every player has their price. Us selling him doesn't necessarily mean we don't rate him. £150k for a 31 year old might just be too good to turn down (depending on who we can get in of course).

Appears to me like the bid came a bit out of the blue. Seems like CP was expecting him to be part of the plans for coming season hence taking him to Spain, but I reckon the board see it as too good to turn down.

It seems that the Notts Co bid is the main factor and not that CP wants him to go, although, it seems that CP wont be feeling all distraught and suicidal should Benson go. As the article says, a 150k bid for a 32 year old may be too good to turn down especially if that money can allow CP to sign a player that he really fancies.
I thought he was only 31 but it's still a decent enough piece of business provided we replace him with a player who gets us some goals. In the end that's the key to all of this
Come on Guys Benson was never strong enough for League 1 . I am glad he is going as we need someone stronger and or nippier and he had no cutting edge to his game last season. He needs to put on some muscle and fight harder for the ball. He lost it too easily last season; tried hard but just not good enough.; a fair few notches above abbott but always disappointing
Nottingham is like most medium sized cities...Some nice places to live some real dives.
I'm not sure I've ever heard West Bridgford described as a 'village' though!
The longer this Benson thing goes on though, the more I think maybe he's changed his mind. I'd been told it was virtually a done deal and it was just the transfer fee we were haggling over and personal terms had already been agreed, but in football you can never bank on anything until it's all signed sealed and delivered.
Benno was considering the options last night, from what i heard there was a big pull towards Mad dog but also torn between fighting for place and un finished business
lads who would you rather sell benson!! or BWPs there will be a good replacement like the others who have replaced the tosh from last season!! i dont dislike benno but i dont think he is a charlton type player

Ok wanting to stay and fight for your place but ultimately if a fee has been accepted and the Manager is prepared to let you go then there isn't really a lot of hope for you. If he stays we will still get at least another striker in and Benno may be fourth choice. Not good when you are 32 nearly and need to play. Plus next summer he'd be looking a new Club more than likely but will be another year older. Would b better to take a two year deal now.
For the sake of his career . he should sign for Notts IMO , at least he'll have security of a longer contract with them , and more chance of a starting place in the team , good luck Paul , and thanks for what you've done.
I agree large fully , I hope he does what's right for him and his family, I don't think benno was ever the answer but I dont think he is a problem either always tried and done his best ,
Surely if benno needs to win more tackles and headers then so does bwp.
People have said before, bwp does little but stick the ball in the net which is 100% fine by me but I honestly think if benson plays next season he will bag 15+ goals even if he doesn't add more to his all round game

Sorry Golf but that's just stupid. Why would you offer a 32yr old a 2 yr extention?
So let's assume we get promoted this season................Do you honestly think he'd be good enough to play in the championship? No
Or let's assume his form dips out and he's not playing well........Nobody will be interested in buying him and we'd be stuck with a 33yr old striker with 2 yrs left on a contract.
The potential transfer fee wouldn't be worth the risk. As i said in earlier post, if he's worth keeping then just keep him and let's see how things stand come May. Think we'd be silly to sign players in their 30's for more than 1 yr at a time.

Yeah ...... Win more challenges!! Someone help this guy out!!
Works harder than BWP, but then again he has to because he's not as naturally talented.

He did say in his own article in the evenin stannit during last season, that it took him a while to convince CP of his abilities
( Or similar words, but that was the jist of it).
Perhaps he still hasn't convinced the gaffer enough.
Personally I'd like him to stay.
Service was poor last sesaon, potentially better this, I reckon he'll improve his goal rtae, and he is a trier.
