Racon - Quality player, better than the three we've signed (including Alonso) - got his " gone missing" tag because of the long ball football we played during his time with us. With JJ and three newboys we have no pace centrally and only BWP upfront who doesn't' play on shoulder of last man anyway. I'm struggling to see team strategy other than pay more money for players than oppo. No physical threat in midfield or upfront. We need an impenetrable defence for this to work.
Racon's game was to keep the ball moving, a cog in the wheel of the team ...... a nice touch here, a first time flick there, a short pass to feet square across the box. And a decent edge of box shot whenever got in to a shooting position.
And he was capable of defending from the front.
It was drive and consistancy that he often lacked.

FFS Harvey's, give them a chance why don't you? None of them have kicked a ball in anger for us yet but you already know that they are worse than Racon? You must spend a lot of time watching other teams in League 1 and lower league Spanish football then?
Racon had a bit of quality but it rarely showed. He was at his best when his contract was about to expire. Suddenly, he had the energy to play for 90 mins.
Not a great shooter, not a good goalscorer, not good in the air, passing was ok, tackling could have been better. Showed good skill occasionally.Showed he's not a true team player, by refusing to play for the team last season, on the left.
Millwall willing to offer him more money than us. So that's that.
I think we need a fresh start, without him & Semedo, so not fussed.
I'd wish him well, but as at Millwall, I hope he does ok at best.
where has all this talk of millwall fans not being a patient as us come from - they may well be inbreed thugs but they are a lot more patient with theyre team than we are with ours"

seem to be building a team a la Brighton if you ask me - get over it - the new regime are only confirming what i've been telling you all season - our centre mid couldn't play football and had to be replaced.
Not sure I see this "technical" quality of Racon. Maybe reasonable close control on receipt of the ball, but lacked the vision to unlock doors once in posession. But then who does in that Charlton squad? He seemed to have occasional impact when charging down a flank. I wonder if Powell will try 3-5-2 next year a la Hoddle. Semedo would do a good job as the defensive one of the middle 3, but if he's too expensive there will be other "chopper/rudimentary" options out there with Mcoxo (dare I say it) as back up. Left and right backs will bomb back and forward - maybe Wagstaff as a right wing back. Ultimately they need more pace when in posession. Too often the momentum was not there when Powell tried to make them play. The possession, at times, was encouraging, but it was all so pedestrian. Semedo could do a good job breaking down opposition attacks then pass it square for Jackson and co. to shift it attractively, but quickly up field. Racon might well go on to do well, and might have done well in a better system at the Valley, but he's not worth £££ in wages IMO. I like the look of Powell's squad building - just hope he's got enough advisers around him that have the necessary nous at this level of football to understand how to get them to win games!!!
just thought Racon will line up against us pre season, should be fun
He will round 4 or 5 players, including his 'replacement' and drill a shot into the top corner from 25 yards out, and proceed to dance at the corner flag with Kevin Lisbie, FACT

Seems this was one Pardew actually got right. No one could understand why he couldn't get into our side (myself included) when he loaned to Brighton. Had a couple of good couple touches every other game which seem to stick in people memories. The fact is he was a creative midfielder but didn't seem to create many chances or score many.
The question is why did Pardew sign him in the first place?
It's down to Jackett now. If he can get consistent performances out of Racon, as in consistently at his best, then it will be a real coup, and Jackett will have shown impressive ability.. I certainly think there will be a honeymoon period at Millwall, I reckon this is worth re-assessing in February.
We need to let him go , he's a part of our 'Success' in recent years and a part of our history, whether he does well or not i wish him all the best , i think he needs a fresh start elsewhere , i wonder if the 3 players signed today were his wages being spent?
As one who has not pretended things have been rosey as we have slipped further down the footballing ladder I've thought of racon as a player who never produced what the rose tinted bleated about him producing but now we have reached a new low he looked a reasonable player imo (hence the wankbank top marked player, let's be honest take out BWP and JJ and there isn't another player in that squad I'd really get the hump about leaving) A good manager which undoubtedly jackett is will prolly get more out of him but that's because the rac has prolly been charltonised down to his current limited levels of ability I'd rather he was here than not due to there being worse players staying but I can wish him nothing but footballing misery now he has gone to the scum Onwards and upwards , please god we can't create even more of a gap between us and them , these last two years have been footballing hell
There were so many games where Racon barely touched the ball. He's so often been a non-entity on the pitch that I doubt we'll notice he's gone. I don't think I've ever seen him make a full blooded tackle, a complete bottler.
I actually think he's a really strange signing for Millwall I can't see how he's going to fit in there. Oh well.
Jackett is a good manager and may get something more out of him but he's not a grafter and won't last with that mob.
So will Jackett get more out of him as you say or will Racon not last with them. Seems to be a contradiction there.
If Jackett is a good manager then why has he signed such a terrible, talentless, gutless player to play in a higher division?
Or maybe Racon isn't quite that bad and Millwall and Jackett aint quite that good.
He's gone, I can't wish him luck with the Spanners but Powell has signed Hollands and now Alonso with more to come this week and next so in the long run it it looks like we'll be stronger as a team and a squad which is what we've lacked for a long while.
But Racon is not the terrible player that some are making out. Unfortunately he will show that playing for the Spanners. Just like Ambrose and Iwelumo and Sinclair and Varney.
Not "Charltonised" as (other than Sinclair) they were never that terrible as some made out when there were here.
What we have here is a case of "Charlton Eyes". This condition prevents sufferers seeing any good in certain players, only their faults. There are not shades of grey for these people only black and white (and mainly black). So far no cure has been found. Research into the effect of promotion suggests this may mitigate some of the symptoms but only if a double dose is given and in quick succession.
Hardly anyone is saying that Racon is a terrible player Henry. The opposite in fact, he showed how good he could be but for whatever reason never did it consistently. Semedo is much less 'technically' talented but tried his best every time, which is why more people would miss him than racon.
I don't think he is a terrible player , the phrase lazy but gifted springs to mind , his game is not suited to the hurley burley of league 1 , i'm sure he will thrive at Millwall.

Laters, chinny.
Have fun at the toolbox.

Just as long as he doesn't kiss the badge...

They just won't put up with his white flag act down there.
If he plays, he'll do his disappearing act away from home and will be moved on by next summer.
Agree with OohAah, Jackett is a good manager and may get something more out of him but he's not a grafter and won't last with that mob.
Seth's final paragraph is spot on.
Alonso is far more exciting!!
