I dont think its a boycot , but why should you spend good money and your time on watching a pile of crap? 3 attempts on goal against a run of the mill team when we are at home is awful.
It can not get any worse onthe pitch--- it cant -----we are losing to teams we should be hammering----- and we deserve to be losing those games----it isnt bad luck.
CP ????? till the end ofthe season yes, but would you give him big money if it was your own ? i see the new guy coming in as a huge positive. May be wrong but it looks to me that there will be money for transfers.
GH is right, we are abysmal (Brentford hadn't won away all season) and the responsibility is Powell's, he has to get his act together now and get the team to stop losing. Pardew went after a humiliating 5-2 home defeat, Parky went after a humiliating 4-2 home defeat (even though he was manager of the month) - if we lose at Dagenham and then suffer a humiliating defeat (with scoreline to match) at home to Southampton then things get very very difficult.
Always good to read a post which helps reassure that things will turn around eventually but surely the bulk of Chris Powell's brief at the moment can only really be about getting results on a Saturday afternoon, aiming for promotion and helping to ensure season ticket sales are decent. He seems to be failing on all these fronts at the moment and whether our longer term plans (i.e in not renewing most current players contracts) are not helping him is a possibility but it must be very hard to plan for the future when you have a manager in place who must have serious question marks over him. Didn't we miss out on the likes of Billy Davies because we didn't really want to relinquish control to a manager and his team. I just hope we haven't got nice guy Chris in as a puppet so that these agents and scouts and all the rest of it can actually live out their ambitions by running the team from afar. As i've stated before, get the righjt manager ina nd things can turn around pretty quickly at a club and alarm bells always start ringing with me when 2, 3, 5 year plans are talked about. Of course you need them but they shouldn't be at the expense of the present - after all, actions speak worder louder than words.
Yes, thanks for your postings Mick. It's good to read a balanced, objective piece from a thorough professional who is also obviously a supporter. Having supported the club for getting on for 60 years I know that choosing Charlton has never been an easy ride. You need to develop a sense of long-term proportion, make the most of the years at the top (when they come around) and sometimes hunker down and wait for things to get better when things go very wrong. Things are certainly grim right now but at least we still have a club and a ground, both things that seemed very unlikely at certain points. And now we have new owners who do seem to have a plan to undertake the very necessary ground-up reconstruction that you refer to. As you say, we may not know as much as we would like about them, or their plan, but all we can do is keep supporting the club, buying season tickets, avoiding too much short-term negativity about the mostly hopeless bunch of players we are currently stuck with, and hope that the club returns to an upward trajectory sometime soon.
Yes thank you Mick for your post. I have to say that at one of the lowest points in my Charlton supporting life this has raised my spirits and hopes in equal measure.
It was great reading Mick's considered, measured and intelligent post. I am confident that, despite the guff that we are currently experiencing, the pieces are quietly being put into place to give us a chance of being successful again in the not too distant future.
Mick - great post and has certainly cheered me up.
Also I noticed the comment below made by Swisdon (I think) and I'm beginning to think it's not to far from the truth !
I think Powell is proving a point - he wants us to play a certain way and the majority of the current players are either not up to it
also think the title of this thread should be added to so that everyone read's Mick's posts which are a couple of the best ones I've read on here in a very long time
but season ticket sales are no longer the be all and end all for us. We may lose 2000 season ticket holders but if we start the season off with a few wins - and a new squad - and are playing good football, the people will soon come back

Then if we get promoted more will return
Not so sure, given the £50 off offer plus once less committed people get out of the habit or are freed up to taste the goods elsewhere...
It could well be a case of 'once bitten, twice shy' for more casual fans- sure we'd be playing well now, but would they chance another weekend/game like some of the dross served up lately?
Cheers Mick. Great post and appreciate your measured thoughts. I think that despite the current frustration and upset at being served up with poor performances each week, there is still a healthy respect for the board that have chosen to bring our club back to the top table in the right manner. It is due to these principles that mean we can take pride in our club, whatever level we 'compete' at.
Yes a great post from Mick & almost reassuring when many including myself have almost lost the will to attend.
However Chris Powell worries me. It appears that he has seemingly zero tactical awareness, zero abilty to motivate the players, unable to pick a balanced team from our squad, bizarre choice of formations & team selection. e.g. racon left wing with reid on the bench & mcoxo in midfield oh & a highly thought of midfielder on loan from spurs warming the bench or how about a 4-5-1 selection with benson up front & BWP on the bench? Neither seem capable of playing the "one man alone" type of game but BWP is always likely to grab a goal from nothing.......whereas benson just seems capable of nothing.
I just don't see how somebody without (imo) basic managerial abilities Is somehow over the course of the summer going to blossom into a capable Football manager & lead us to glory next season. As much as I would like to see CP succeed I honestly feel that the longer we keep him as manager the longer the wait until we bring in a manager capable of delivering what we all want ...to get out of this bloody division!
He didn't start Bigred but he was on the bench & I'm sure that he came on later on. He's been carrying the knee problem since he signed & I understand that maybe he can't play every game but surely if there's a doubt about him throw him on to start & sub him when he's feeling it's a problem. If you bring him on as a sub & he breaks down that's a wasted sub ?
I noticed in the Sheff Utd post match thread that Incorruptible Addick mentioned the impact of Jeff Vetere in Charltons resurgence. Not a criticism but a genuine enquiry. Anyone know what Mr. Vetere has been up to lately ?
It would be interesting to know how much he had to play in our signings. Many are established league players that Powell himself would be more than aware of.
Maybe he is more involved in the negotiating rather than identifying, although my impression is that Powell is rather Curbs like in terms if managing the club and players in all aspects.

Think there may be some truth in it but this run of form is going to hit season ticket sales hard and that surely can't be part of his plan.

Saw him in the directors seats for both league cup games.
The People is saying today that he is leaving , it does not say where to.
