[cite]Posted By: SurreyAddick[/cite]Agree with Boogica. If jenkinson is anything to go by we should try more youngsters. In fact the rebuilding starts now. Powell should start playing the system that he wants to use long term and only those players that fit that system!! This way they may be used to it by the start of next season and we can get off to a flyer. See, I can still be positive!!
The others aren't close to the first team because they're not as good as Jenkinson.
Jenkinson did well on loan in the Blue Square Prem, others are on loan two divisions below and not even starting every game.
Firstly big thanks to Reading Addick for the invite to the box. I hope the Charlton Life badge was fair payment : - ) Good to see No.1, cafc18 (sorry it's a dodgy user name A.), Blackheath and WWtone.
It wasn't 4 -5-1 it was 4 -1 -4 - 1.
Whatever it didn't work as Benson isn't suited to that role. With Big Joe it might have worked or even with Eccles to stretch them but not Benson. He was so isolated that even when we did get a cross in he was double marked and had little chance. The one real sniff of a goal he scuffed his shot when he should have done better.
First half we matched them but there was so little going on especially going forward.
Their passing was one and two touch and ours was two and three. Ability? Confidence? Tactics? Not sure, perhaps a bit of all three but it meant we couldn't move the ball forward quick enough to get behind a well drilled side.
Once they scored we had some nice passages of play but the only real save from their keeper was a mis-hit jenks free kick in the dying minutes.
The Subs were late again (why wait when we are losing? Why BWP on 70 mins and then NE in the last 10. It's not as if we were doing anything.
Reid was poor. Couple of runs which came to nothing or poor crosses. Left Jenks 1 on 2 for the first goal.
Racon busy but little impact, McCormack not terrible just not much at all, Waggy hardly saw the ball and as before Lewington neutralised him.
Llera was strong and busy but didn't have the easy game with hours on the ball he had v Tranmere.
Francis was poor but not much worse than the others IMHO Time for Solly now.
Jenks made some errors but drove forward and tried to make things happen.
When they scored not one sub was told to warm up. Took around 12 mins before someone was even out stretching. Not good enough.
MK Dons were not brilliant, not miles above us in class or ability but they were better organised, sharper and played together as a team. They deserved to win.
Just following on what other people have said and i agree i know the teams not good enough and its parky's team i dont hold that against powell,
its the timing of subs when they are made, Eclestone having seen him start and come on he is a good impact sub like Reid( last season one) 82min is not an impact its to late
Its the making of subs when the match is almost over, Hes only a kid it will take him about 10mins to get use to the speed of the game
Thats only 5% of the problem at charlton at the moment
Henry Irving has summarised that very well. Thought Reid was ok 1st half and his speedy run and shot just past the post was the highlight. We played well for 15 mins before half time and up to their 1st goal. But the team lacks character and there was never going to be a comeback once we'd let a goal in. Henry is right about the formation (4-1-4-1) and that we didn't have anyone suitable for the lone striker role (even Anyinsah struggles with that and the decision to let Sodje go looks flawed). We were set up to gain a foothold in the game and it looked ok for a while but it needed to be ditched the moment MK scored. Powell seems to managing during games by committee, with all three of them at times huddled together in the technical area. He looks out of his depth I'm afraid and he's going to need a major turnaround for his appointment not to be viewed as an absolute abortion.

well the rest of the 1st team aint as good as jenkinson so why not try the other youngsters.
because the way i see most of our 1st team look like blue square players at the moment.

Because CP and AD see them all every day and don't think the youngsters are either ready or good enough despite they poor performance of the existing senior squad. If he is wrong then that raises further questions against his judgement.

Which is my point, some of them are only Ryman League players at the moment.
Solly yes, Stavrinou possibly, the rest haven't played or haven't convinced at Blue Square level.
look scoham i know these lads aint proven yet but i the current 1st team is very mediocre ,would like us to unearth some talent from our youth system ,tuna for instance has been around for ages yet doesnt get a look in which i think is a shame cos the lad obviously knows where the net is unlike say benson who we paid money for and aint done anything since he came to us hence his goalscoring record.

Flawed arguement, Benson has 8 goals in 20 starts and 3 sub apps. At worst that's a reasonable record.
Damian Matthew will know plenty about Tuna, there's a reason he's on loan 4 divisons below us.
I'd love to see more break through but remember how Pardew ruined Waggy's confidence by playing him too early?
Whilst we have all given up on play offs - Powell can't yet so the blooding of youngsters may be a few games away. I have given up but I certainly wouldn't be happy if he did. One of the problems is - Powell doesn't really understand the limitations of some of the players like we do - When I saw the team I instantly saw a lack of chances, and due to confidence levels, it is a banker that we were going to concede so the best tactic had to be to carry more threat up front. Would still have been a tough ask with the injuries and lack of confidence in he team but as has been said- Benson is not suited to the one man up front role. The way we set up had defeat written all over it.
Parky had a much better idea what the team could and couldn't do. He was undone by teams frustrating us at home but he knew what he could ask the players to do and what he couldn't and his formations made more sense. I think Powell was on to something with the 3 up front as long as Joe was one of them but injuries put paid to this. I assume that some of the players show more in training and make Powell think they are better than they are. I see certain players who can't play 2 yard passes week in and week out. I get a sense that Powell doesn't know what to do with this team now but as long as he is learning and we start to see an improvement - we still have cause for optimism in the longer term.
As has been said, Powell needs to have an eye on next season and think about how he wants us to play and what type of players we have and what type we need will accomodate this. I hate to criticise players, especially those that are clearly doing their best but having not so long ago watched players like Scot Parker, Claus Jensen, Mark Kinsella, Di Canio, Darren Bent, Richard Rufus, Johnny Robinson, Mark Fish, Jorge Costa, Super Clive, Andy Hunt, Danny Murphy, Dean Kiely, The Herminator, JJ .....the list goes on but it's depressing me too much - wearing the red shirt, it makes it hard to stomach the like of McCormack and some of the limited players we now have in the team.

to be honest mate his record aint that bad just seems worse ,just wanna see us getting back to winning ways and at the moment seems a long way off ,the set up we have ie the stadium ,training facilities ,fans is superb and it would be nice if a couple of our youngsters ended up legends at the valley instead of elsewhere.
One of the main problems with Benson is that he's only scored two HOME league goals out of his eight. Anyinsah has a worse record than that...he's only got one league goal at home and that was in his first game. Sodje had a record equal to that. That's not to say that the team don't look better when Anyinsah plays (in a 4-4-2) because generally they do but his record isn't great either.

What's all this giving players pet names...Big Joe, Eccles. Surely they need to earn the right to have a pet name. Can't say either of these two have done that in their Charlton career.
I think Big Joe has been a revelation - the only problem is that he is a crock! Just our luck but deserving of a pet name for when fit he is the best player we have IMO.
I went last night and I can't be bothered to put my thoughts down not that anyone cares about that but as junk as SCP has been I'm prepared to give hin to the end of next season
And to me he will always be SIR CHRIS POWELL
He was my first Charlton /England player ffs wanky shitty Charlton MY team had an England international ffs
Anyway 1%play offs 99% the apologists will have to dig to new depths to make excuses for footballs current no.1 joke club
Muttley...granted Anyinsah has been one of the better ones out of a bad bunch but three league goals = revelation? His last league goal at home was September 11th. We're his 8th club and he's only 26. A bit of a journeyman I'd say....albeit an honest one. Maybe it's another sign of how low we have got that we yearn for his return!
Questions I would like answered 1) How can things go down hill so quickly and confidence disapear 2) Why play One up front 3) Continue to play people out of position (jenkinson LB, Racon left wing and Wagstaff up front) 4) Francis keeps place and takes most set plays 5) Passing and movement is so poor 6) How long has Powell got ??

If we have to give Anyinsah a pet name, perhaps 'China Joe' might be more appropriate. But I presume 'big Joe' is intended to be ironic as his bio says he is five foot eight.
Have to agree with Simonsen. I like him but I am a little dubious about this notion that he is 'vital' to our success.
Until his one good season at Carlisle last year he had made 50 first-team appearances in five years for seven different clubs and scored three goals.
