[cite]Posted By: Screamer[/cite]Another thing which hit me tonight was the fact that McCormack is our main corner taker. If he is the best we have from the team playing tonight, that seriously underlines how much we lack creative players. The man should never wear a Charlton shirt again, yet he is our set piece expert. Joke.
Only in the absence of Jackson I think. Francis takes corners too.
I'm sure Reid used to take corners too. Why is a player who gives the ball away 50% of the time taking the corners so regularly. I know Jackson is injured but there must be better.
Simon Francis has to be the worst Charlton player that I have seen in the 34 years that I have been going to games. Their 2nd goal just about summed him up. 5th minute of injury time he hits the 1st man (again) whilst taking a corner it comes straight back to him and then without another charlton player touching the ball it is in the back of our net within 15 seconds.
Mccormack looks like a proper ball winning hard man, however he pulls out of tackles and is unable to control the ball or play even the simplest of passes.
If these two players were Southends best last year then it's not surprising that they got relegated.
Waggy has decided to complain about everything rather than get on with his job.
Chris Powell is a legend at the club but we have got 1 point from the last 6 games and lets be honest the 4 that we won we were lucky to win 3 of them.
Under Parky we were the leading scorers away from from out of all 92 teams. We hadn't lost away since october 2nd. We had scored 24 in 11 away games. Under Chris we have scored 2 goals in 4 away games.
The publicity stunt from the board has not worked.
its not often that it happens, but I'm actually lost for words !!!
I shouldn't have been surpreised - getting out of thr car at 7.15pm and hearing the team news as we walked across the car park, I commented........"best get back in the car - we wont win playing 4-5-1 with Benno up front and your in form striker on the bench "
and so it came to be.
I am sorry to say this but Chris Powell is out of his depth - he hasn't a clue & keeps chopping & changing his team. One week it is 4-3-3 with BWP, Ecclestone & waggy up front, then its 4-4-2 with BWP and Benson up front. then its 4-5-1 with Benno up front on his own. I know some changes have been down to injuries, but a succesful team plays the same way, week in, week out.
The one saving grace is that Benno will now miss 4 games.........yippee !!!!!!!!! Just a shame that McOxo & Francis don't know how to tackle, otherwise we could hope that they go the same way as Benno - it seems that is the only way they will not play !!
so, summing it all up..............gutless, spinless & useless.
For those at the match, reading a few comments on Twitter that are saying that charlton fans were racially abusing cp. Please tell me that is not true.
I thought MKD were the better team throughout and unlike us made their possession count. They also had midfielders who were prepared to turn and run at us and create chances for themselves or others. Thought CP got the starting team wrong and definately waited far too long to make changes. Only good news surely is that he must be learning from this and learning fast. Too many of our players are just not good enough. McOxo and Francis obviously but I'd also count Reid, Racon, Semedo, Reid and Benson in that. Solly must replace Francis on Saturday or if Bessone is fit switch Jenks to RB. If we must persist with a 3 man midfield then give Stav a chance ahead of McOxo.
CP has a big job on his hands over the summer. This rubbish just won't be acceptable next season.

It's not true. Well i didnt hear anything anyway . In fact they were singing chrissy powell's red and White army most of the night.
[cite]Posted By: Kap10[/cite]For those at the match, reading a few comments on Twitter that are saying that charlton fans were racially abusing cp. Please tell me that is not true.
never heard that. Saw a couple of numpties giving Worner some stick when he came right to our end to give someone his gloves.
Bingaddick and Bedsaddick on another thread sum up my feelings. At half time, I felt we'd done OK playing an in form team , at their place and with only one up front . More of the same second half and thought we might get a bit of luck and nick it.
Alas, an earlyish goal put us on the back foot and some of the newly regained confidence ( esp by Reidy, I thought) evaporated . Their 2nd goal meant nothing - we were trying hard to press forward and the inevitable happened especially as we were a man light by then.
What angers me is the attitude of some of our "supporters". Apart from the drummer & his pals ( well done, lads) our lot were pretty much silent. That is, until a mistake was made and then the criticism started....which in the second half turned to more than a few boos and cries of "rubbish" from the usual suspects.
I acknowledge totally that you pay your money and have the right to "support" in the way you see fit. But after the inept and even to my untrained eye, unacceptable performance last Tuesday evening and the marginally better one on Saturday, I fail to understand how tonight's showing could be anything but an improvement. Compared to a week ago when more often than not, it appeared as though the players had barely been introduced to one another, tonight was a Barcelona type performance. Some decent passing moves, encouraging forays forward with the ball at feet ( Waggy,Racon & Reid) and a tighter midfield on the whole....Of course, errors were made and passes went astray - isn't that the nature of the game ? - and players were caught out of position but especially until they scored , we were on a par with the home side. So why so little encouragement & acknowledgement of the positive aspects of the play ?
Maybe I'm too naiive, too eager to see the best in the team I love and some might say my rose coloured specs ( contact lenses actually) need a good clean . But tonight, there was more fight in those wearing the reds shirts and more cohesive interplay than I've seen for a while. Of course, I was disappointed with another defeat but on the back of recent matches, could we realistically expect anything more against a decent side ? I always travel hoping for 3 points or even 1 but lately I'm honest enough to admit to myself that it's an unlikely outcome. But I go to SUPPORT, not to shriek my frustration at every error made and to boo the players ( and manager ?) who we must believe are doing their best for our Club.
It was especially sad to see a few idiots verbally abusing Ross Worner when he came over to our end at the final whistle to speak with friends/family. Shameful indeed. And totally unacceptable . Why do these people bother to go ?
There WERE signs of improvement there tonight, honestly but frustration and disappointment inevitably clouds the view . For me the prospect of promotion or even the play offs ended a couple of weeks ago but the season goes on. And as a true supporter of this Club,I go on with it to the, hopefully not too bitter end. It's sometimes hard to keep the faith & remain upbeat but that's my job. I signed on for that when I bought my season ticket & as with any job, I take the rough with the smooth. And I don't merely attend " the office" when things are going well and the job's a piece of cake. I'm part of a team and proud of it. How many there tonight can say the same , hand on heart ?
anyone who thinks we played ok in the first half must have been watching a different match, oh you mean you are being relative to how shit we are now? I will not harp on about how crap we are at the moment only to say crappyness and integrity should go hand in hand, L&P.
Two evenly matched, largely sideways teams in the first half, and in the end they undid us with good counter-attacking in the second half after we started it well with no breakthrough. MK Dons were nothing special, but they did what they had to do, and took their points.
Mistake on the team selection. If you're going to play 4-5-1 with the players we have, then Benson is not the 1 up top. Anyinsah would be the preferred option for me, but with him injured I'd put either BWP or Eccleston in there instead of Benson.
I can see what Powell is trying to do, and it could be great next season, but the thing it says loudest is that we don't have the players to do that (at this level) and there'll be a huge staff turnaround in the summer.
I agree with most of the above comments. Francis had some awful sloppy passes and poor crosses, Wagstaff anonymous, Racon and Reid OK. Didn't think much to Semedo, but he wasn't bad. Benson wasn't bad, but that's not a role that suits him. Jenkinson was less assured than I've seen him before. I'd add Dailly to LargeAddick's list of players to ship out.
Didn't hear any racial abuse towards Powell. The fans were singing Chrissy Powell's Red Army for most of the first half. Some extremely intelligent 'fans' sang a song about Kevin Lisbie and a tree at half time, but that was just one or two people.
Far too much not right to get my head around it at the moment, to be honest I wouldn't know where to start in picking the bones out of that.
Suffice to say Worner and Racon would probably be my only two positives and Benson's stupidity means we can add Striker to the list of positions we are short in for the short to medium term.
31% possession and 2 attempts on target... we set-up for a 0-0, played for a 0-0 and even looked like we were playing for a 1-0.
My god Alan McCormack. I'm having shudders typing his name.
All the players are shite, Benson got sent off on purpose imo so he misses daggers. Powell is fcking useless at making subs at the right time, an 451 with a clown upfront was never gonna work.
It wasn't a good night. It was one of those games where the first goal was going to be vital. We didn't get it and we couldn't get a proper hold of the game by the scruff of the neck thereafter.
Of course CP is accountable for the team that went out. Lets not forget though that a pretty thin squad was missing through injury at the start of play

Let us also remember the terrible performance against Swindon, coming after Walsall and some pretty iffy ones against 10 men under Parky.
This is essentially Parkys team and he failed to get it playing well for much of the time.
"This is essentially Parky's team?"
Parkinson never had the money for forward like BWP or Ecclestone and although he might not have had us "playing well for much of the time" he certainly never went through a run of five losses and a draw in six games in League One - most of which have been against shite opposition. Under Parkinson we usually bounced back from defeats quite strongly.
Facts are facts, under Parkinson we were very useful away from home and really only struggled at The Valley, although we still ground out some home wins.
Under Powell we look awful away from home and at home and I just can't see him turning it around this season.
I think we just have ti write off this season. For whatever reason cp has not been able to achieve with this squad if players. Now he needs to decide on his strategy for next season and re convince slater that he is the man to take us forward.
my concern is that the players will lose confidence in cp and undermine him making it more difficult for him to maintain the crowd and board support after all a rookie manager is an easy Target especially when the players may feel that the manager that brought them in was unfairly dismissed
Obvious orders to keep it on the floor and pass it round but team lacking the confidence to do it without slip ups. The crowd getting frustrated at every pass which is not forward really does not help. Reidy did look more confident but went for shots when cross balls would of been better. Some good link ups between Racon and Reid. Yes the players do put in effort but there is a lack of self belief when going in for challenges which basically means the other players win them. Worner made a couple of good saves but he needs to get more confident in calling for the ball, a few scary mix ups were happening. If a fit BWP was playing in the first half I feel we could of won this. Why do we always start blaming on here, it really does not matter now, we have the team we have and need to give Chris Powell our support in moving the team forwards . I have always thought that it will be only once we lose our expectations and delusions that we should walk this league that we can start to turn it round. Lets get behind our manager and support the team he builds for next season.
I desperately want the manager and the team to succeed and try as be as supportive as possible. But last night and the last few weeks it has been difficult to maintain. Read all the comments above but have two problems. Our players are not as good as we think and ARE they showing real commitment to the cause (like players of old did and like Wolves and Blackpool showed at the weekend). Taking the Exeter, Carlisle and MK Dons games as examples, all three had players who are more comfortable in possession than ours especially in midfield. I agree that Racon looked busy yesterday but when was the last time that he, or any other midfielder, played a killer ball!!! Our players seem to be trying but Exeter, Carlisle and MKD (who weren't very good btw) all showed greater desire and urgency to win matches.
We need to support the team, as does Powell in his public pronouncements but lets hope he can see the deficiencies and in private is making it clear what needs to happen next season if we are to be competitive and have a real shot at getting out of this division. The sad thing is league 1 is very poor this year and we have missed an opportunity. Won't be any easier next year!!
I hate to say it, but I just couldnt really care anymore. Bunch of gutless losers are not fit to wear the shirt. I will admit that I missed Saturdays game, and it was the first time since I was 10 years old that I missed a game cos I simply didnt want to go. It isn't fun, and it isnt enjoyable.
I have a 2 and a half year old boy who i dont see all week because I am working late - it is better use of my weekends to spend quality family time rather than watch 11 men run around making a joke of themselves.
we are a very poor side, personally id like to see a few of youngsters playing ,ie harriott ,tuna, mambo, poyet this kids should be given a chance the present crop of players in the 1st team most of em are shocking.
Agree with Boogica. If jenkinson is anything to go by we should try more youngsters. In fact the rebuilding starts now. Powell should start playing the system that he wants to use long term and only those players that fit that system!! This way they may be used to it by the start of next season and we can get off to a flyer. See, I can still be positive!!

Exactly, and you are not on your own mate. In a way, they've done us a favour, made us realise that there ARE more important things to do with your life on your main day off each week than be a slave to a football team.
And that is the same reason I will be staying away this Saturday (again) to spend time with my daughter. That 5 year season ticket I brought is fast becoming a chain around my neck and the worst purchase I have ever made! I feel mugged off by this bunch of turds (and slightly kerfuffled).
This situation, I fear, is going to get worse and I'm afraid 'the gamble' by the board, however refreshing it was, has really backfired. "Putting bums on seats" was their plan! Oh yeah? Where, in the away end?
It was bad last night. It's all been said above really. Powell looked lost fot the last 30 minutes of the 2nd half and seemed out of his depth. Actually felt sorry for the bloke. We're decimated with injuries at the moment which isn't helping. What worries me is CPs indecisive decision making. Have no idea what he was waiting for before doing his subs. Even a novice like me could tell we were crying out for fresh blood out there. Francis, McCormack were awful. Waggy was not much better. Semedo played ok but does nothing for our midfield as he is way too defensive. I suppose that's his role but there really is no creativity in midfield. Racon was ok but, in all honesty, didn't do much. Benson really had a tough job up front with no midfield creativity helping him out or support from the wings. Reid tried to get into it but it wasn't quite there. Worner, Jenks, Liera, Dailly played ok.
In summary, it will help when our injured players come back but we can kiss goodbye to the playoffs. CP has major work to do. I suppose that all the board can do now is give him his time and hope after the summer he can get his own team together and make a push for next year. I don't think they'll wait too long though. Like I said, I thought CP looked out of his depth last night.

2. Joe

4. Fry

Thats a pretty sizable chunk of a thin squad.
