Excellent idea. At last some activity from the club to get bums on seats again. It is positive news Thank god Varney is back. Young kids in the early ninety's got the Charlton bug through promotions on ticket prices at the Valley just like this one. The odd sour old season ticket holder will always moan.
Some years ago, the then Chairman of Notts County, Derek Pavis contacted CAFC to enquire why they were so successful on ticket promotions with school children. Pavis said if County did a similar exercise, No One would bother to take up the offer.
[cite]Posted By: MuttleyCAFC[/cite]As long as total cost of season ticket is less than cost of attending the game we can't complain. In fact, I'm looking forwards to a good turn out.
The differential is still there.

Very unfair on the guys in Club Development who have been doing a lot of work season after season with tickets for Schools and other groups among other things.
The fact that the Jimmy Seed stand has been empty for two seasons (of home fans) would suggest that I'm not the only one who hasn't heard. Don't get too touchy about it.

It's a great initiative. and about time !
Err so because you were wrong I'm touchy. How strange.
Lots of empty seats for the last two seasons and never been a reason to offer the Jimmy Seed. Doubt we will need that extra capacity this time either but hope I am wrong.

Sorry got to agree with Henry on this, earlier this season the club did a promotion for the Yeovil game, whereby ST holders were able to bring friends for only £10. I came with one other. I now have a half season ST and will be bringing my Mother In Law and two Brother in Laws. Both promotions have received the same communication coverage.
To be honest I think £5 is too low,but then I've not done a price elasticity study, but am available to do so any time.
Your pessimistic outlook on this promotion reminds me of a few others at Charlton !
Perhaps you need a fresh outlook.
So crack on and all will be well.
Right now I'm touching my sides in case they split while I'm laughing
"My pessimistic outlook" Ha ha. That will be why I thought it was such a great idea and agreed with it when it was discussed at the Target 40k committee meeting.
Lets see if we sell all 24k seats in the North, East and West. Only another 9k-ish on top of Saturday's home gate. Doable certainly but let's wait and see.
Other than sticking it on the web site and in the programme, what is done to get the word to the people who aren't coming to The Valley and who may have never been to The Valley.

If Parkinson was still here not sure it would make too much of an impact to be honest.Powelly on the other hand.

Interested to know ??
Nothing at all. Absolutely nothing.
Other than the big media push with leaflets in the local press, emails to the 65K names on the data base, etc etc.

To be honest I think £5 is too low,but the
you should send a CV to the Airman and offer your services (pro bono) of course.
If the aim is to get people back and new people in then £5 is the sort of price that tempts people. £20 for a family of four is good value
you get the increased spend on other items. Maybe £1 profit.

You are forgetting the announcement at the game on Saturday which alerted me to the offer
It's a £5 a ticket thread and yet people still find something to argue or moan about ;-O
Should be a nice turn out, hopefully topping 20k!! Thought Sat was more than 16,800 or so personally, I guess all the ST holders turned up for once lol
Im sure i remember one or two away games over the years where we have got nice cheap away tickets benefiting from the home side extending their offer to us. Can't name them off the top of my head though! I think CAFC may have negotiated a £15 ticket with Bburn as part of the operation Ewood, but maybe I'm remembering that wrongly.
If you are telling me that Peter Varney has had no input to this promotion then that is all you had to say. Instead of that you have jumped to the defence of whoever has been working on projects of this type over the last few years and attacked my opinion.
So is this excellent idea the work of someone other than Peter Varney ?
To make the point again. I think this is a great idea. I hope it is a huge success. I think the return of Peter Varvey has had an influence in the decision to do it.
I hope the Jimmy Seed stand is needed, however, anything that can entice people back to The Valley is to be encouraged.
The tickets for schools was an excellent initiative. The £10 as long as you come with a season ticket holder not so good. Why not just charge everyone a tenner.
I think this latest idea will trump them both though. And it's hardly rocket science.

(Cost of season ticket / 23) - £5 to all season ticket holders?
Absolute disgrace
£5
It is positive news

Great Idea Charlton. Long may it continue

Been working in the Schools. Just because you've not heard of it doesn't mean it's not working.
Don't get too touchy about it.

We don't actually but we decided we would offer it to the away fans.
You can have four "local" promotions a season and make offers only to home fans.
Err so because you were wrong I'm touchy. How strange.

I think its very generous and worth a punt
