Sorry to p*** on everybody's parade, but i think this is the wrong decision. The Board have gone for a popular figure with the fans as a sop to the fans. Don't get me wrong i really liked him as a player and he is a very nice man. I would have liked to have seen a more experienced man in charge. I would have been very happy with Chris as our number 2.

Totally agree - can we stop the hysteria and the 'love in' for a minute - we need an experienced manager and not a legend.

oh well your'e in the MINORITY. the majority are ecstatic... chrissy powells red n white army!!
They know how important it is from a financial point of view that we get promoted - they wouldn't have taken this gamble if they didn't think he could do it...

I know where you are coming from.
But it all depends who Powell has alongside him, as his assistant and coach.
Look, to give us the best chance of promotion, I'd have rather had Howe or Poyet - but they turned us down, so Chris Powell is the next best - maybe he'll turn out to be the best - but he's certainly got just a good a chance as the other managers we were talking about ....

Really? The same people that gave Parky the vote of confidence one day and sacked him the next - on the the strength of a crap performance by 99% of the team.... who are still there!!! I might be in the minority here, but forgive me for not cracking open the vintage Bollinger yet!
Any chance you could tone the swearing down a bit, I have just seen your message in the other thread which includes W*****er, & F****ing, there are women and young lads that join in on this site.
[cite]Posted By: heavenSE7[/cite]Are you always like this Paul, one of them guys that tries to ruin the party.... but then nobody listens because they don't care!
SIR CHRIS POWELL=CAFC
Ha ha! No I actually want to watch Charlton play in the Championship next year and not remain in League one, but have a manager who everyone loves! Forgive me for joining in with the cock waving.
Just a few points really
1. The new chairman said he wanted to bring the fans back, yes i myself love Chris Powell, but i also love Charlton, and i dont think fans who are happy with us in league one are going too come flooding back just because he is in charge.
2. They want too push us up the league, so they have hired a manager with no managerial expereince to do that? Yes he has played under Sir Alan C, and even coached with Sven, but surely that isnt good enough for Charlton, we need someone with experience to get us out of this division and to settle us into The Championship.
However 2 sides to every story...
What we need now is a big budget for players, and im sure hiring Chris Powell as manager isnt going to set us back too much so at least there being slightly sensble ( if we see investment on players in the January Transfer window)
As a coach and player management im sure he is preety sound, and he knows alot of players being the PFA Players chairman, and i think we lack serious creativity on the training ground, it seems the only set pieces we do well from are penaltys.
Ok firstly, why do we need someone with experience to get us out of this league? Parkinson done it with Colchester, Atkins with Scunthorpe i'm sure I could name a few more!
Secondly, I think bringing Powell back won't fill the Valley up, but it will bring back a lot of fans who were fed up with the boring, dull and negative atmosphere at the Valley. I for one will be one of them.
I'd like to add that we keep this feeling and support going for whatever length of contract he gets, whatever the results and league position, give him time and i think he will be successful.

I think Paul you are entirely right and it has nothing to do with glass half empty or half full. I will support Chris 100% but just because we don't join in the mass hysteria doesnt mean our views should be rubbished.
Playing devils advocate, if Lord Chris starts off his Charlton career with say 6 games without a win how long before the fickle covered enders start to boo?

Another positive is with his work with the PFA he has probably made alot of friends who most likely won't mind working for him.

At least he will have virtual 100% backing, even from the minority that wouldn't choose him through lack of experience.
Your glass isn't half empty. It's completely empty!
Mine will be soon but I'll fill it up again double quick speed.
A quick trawl of 'Chrissy Powell' on Google images throws up several Facebook Mums and 123people.
He is Crisp Owl. Not some bird off Myspace.
