time is running out. lots of activity in the league, especially with teams up and around us, was hoping we would of been a little more active this week.

CP says he wants to look at the existing squad including the youngsters like Yado Mambo. I am sure they have a number being lined up but the nature of these things are that they tend to happen late. You also have loans that are agreed after the closing of the main window. Frankly I doubt we will be splashing out to buy anyone. They will all be loanees, maybe with the option to buy at the end of the season.
[cite]Posted By: Leggie[/cite]How about on loan, Kevin Phillips, if we could afford his salary
heard him on the radio say he would consider a move just to be able to play.
There will be alot more higher profile teams than us that would want him. Im sure i read Celtic had enquired about a loan
I see Ryan Harley signed for Swansea today to return to Exeter on loan to see out his contract until June, shame, he was one of my 3 potential ball-playing CM's I identified last week alongside Danny Green and Nicky Law.
on cafc player interview with chrissy powell on transfers he said he would look at all our players first then diside on possible transfer targets! he also said then asked about names being thown at him regarding players coming in as paper talk etc

I think he does need to bring 2-3 players in - and I rather hope he goes for loans, so the real construction work can begin in the summer when he knows what div. we will be in next season. In the meantime, as he hinted at in that interview, his first and biggest task is to get more out of the existing squad than his predecesor did.
In the interview he talked about the need for options, which I read as meaning that there were too many players who know their names are on the team sheet next week , anyway, so don't go out there feeling they have a point to prove every time (which before anyone shoots me down, is quite different from saying they are not trying ).
I think CP will demand more from the existiing first team members - and from what Benson said in his Standard column, I reckon he will get it. I also think he will be a fantastic influence on the likes of Wagstaff, Solly, Jenkinson, Mambo and, yes, even Francis and I confidently look forward to all of them developing far more rapidly than perhaps they might have done under the old regime. Who he brings in is then a bonus on top of that....
Skysports.com understands Crystal Palace are lining up a bid to sign Hereford United's in-form striker Mathieu Manset.
The French youngster has been tracked by a string of Championship clubs, including Reading, after scoring six goals in as many appearances.
He has netted 13 times in total for Hereford this season and his form could earn the 21-year-old a move before the close of the transfer window.
Palace are looking to improve their squad in the battle to avoid relegation and are preparing to make an offer for Manset.
Any deal could see Manset follow Lennie Lawrence to Selhurst Park after the former Hereford technical director took on the role of Dougie Freedman's assistant at Palace this week.
Wow! The bursts of form for some players really has the hype machine going(same with managers-Howe, Poyet, etc) & clubs splashing the cash quite unbelievably.
This Mansiet bloke has only scored 10 in 50 games for Hereford, & his 6 goal spree has got Reading paying that much! I wish the guy luck, but he doesn't seem that prolific overall.
Same with Josh McQuoid, short burst of form & he's out of Bournemouth like lightning. Puncheon does ok for Southampton, better for Millwall & the next thing you know, he could be on his way to the Top Flight.
Maybe these signings will be good for teams(hopefully not Millwall), but I'm just amazed at how some clubs look at 'quick fix' style purchases in this current footballing day & age.
As the late, great David Coleman used to say, "Wooo, quite remarkable!" :-)
I was thinking signings like Manset were similar to Lennie signing Andy Jones from Port Vale all those years ago, which seemed to be largely based on Jones hitting five before half-time against a very poor Newport side.
But actually Manset is far more of a long-shot punt than Jones was- just looked up his stats and AJ got 49 goals in 90 games for Vale. So I can only agree - these current signings based on such a short burst of form are really quite odd. And very high risk, you would have to think.
The thing with Manset is though he is very raw. It appears as if he hasn't got the best of scoring records for factors you may be able to attribute to technique and mentality. Both of which can be coached far far easier than pace, strength, build etc. He's got the raw materials, he's got to be shown how to use them effectively and consistently and Reading obviously think they can do that.

Sadly we missed out on Tamika Mkandawire
Bit strange, I thought he'd played nearly all season
Whats your opinions on him playing here?
Darren Purse again!
What about Julian Gray and Hayden Mullins ?
Signing for his boyhood club, Millwall, today apparently.

CRP said there would be no movement this week whilst he assesses his squad. Expect some movement next week though.

Quite remarkable, as he is still alive!

As the kids say, Lol!
It was 3am, wasn't feeling well & I got him confused with the (actual) late great Brian Moore.
Sorry David! ;-)

The Spaniard had a lengthy trial with the Addicks in the summer but former manager Phil Parkinson opted not to sign him on the eve of the season.
