  • Of course what it doesn't say is that Danny Haynes started as a junior at the Valley. He is a decent player,

Ah yes another one that slipped through the net! Outrageous!
  • just heard from my friend, a norwich fan, that charlton have made a loan offer from simeon jackson dont know how true it is though

Isn't the list of clubs mentioned as interested in the chap just a direct replica of the list of clubs that were interested in Eddie Howe this season...Palace, Charlton, Burnley, Southampton & Bournmouth! Maybe coincedence, maybe lazy agency talk...
  • Scoring isnt a problem. Defending is. New CB please.
  • Manset scored a cracking goal yesterday!
  • Simeon Jackson would be a good signing.
  • Anyone got any idea who these 2 defenders we are getting are?

Totally agree - surely no credible promotion contender can keep shipping goals like we have lately.

Where'd ya hear of 2 defenders?
  • In an ideal world I'd be signing:

    a right back,
a strong, competetive and mobile centre back (someone in the Sam Sodje mould but with functioning knees),
    a goalkeeper,
a midfielder who can play right or centrally (so we can play Reidy without having to play an out and out winger on the other side and increase cover/competition in the middle)
    and a target man striker.

Of those I'd make the centre back and the midfielder the priorities with the others being 'nice-to-haves'. That said, Francis has looked a poor signing at least from a defensive perspective and I think tightening up that side of the defence could have as big an influence as a mobile centre back.

We need to be careful not to disrupt squad harmony too much though and I'd be happy to see people like Jenkinson and Worner given a chance if Powelly can't get a bit more out of those who have been first choice under Parky.

One being the defender from Aston Villa?
  • Shane Lowry of Villa was linked but he joined Sheff Utd.
  • Lowry went on loan from Villa to Sheffield United so it will not be him.

I think we need a proper Left Back so Fry could become the alternative Centre Back and only go back there as cover .

    Realistic options :

At Leicester there is Tom Kennedy who recently went back to Rochdale on loan so has match fitness in League One , Powell will obviously know him . Highly rated last season.

Leeds have Fed Bessone and Ben Parker not playing now Mccartney has returned from Sunderland.

Other names could be Thomas Cruise from Arsenal who recently was on loan at Carlisle or the ex Rangers player Steven Smith from Norwich.
  • Danny Haynes to Sheff. Wed. according to the dear old Sun.

I find that a bit strange, haven't they just signed a couple of forwards? Thought he was a great player at Ipswich, perhaps he has lost his way a bit, would like to see him at Charlton though.
  • someone make this sticky

Isn't he a bit on the short side, though?

Defence is main area to strengthen. Need decent right-back (Francis defending has improved but as for getting forward....) plus a pacey younger CM. Proven goalscorer would be good....

Anyone with any (reliable) rumours? We are normally bombarded with rumours at this time!!!

    I beg your pardon...
  • this is from football rumours site (shite i know)

lee martin from ipswich 800k (then someone else added 'biggest flog ever 300-400k tops
jason euell on loan from blackpool
nicky ajose on loan from man u
  • Jason Euell's not such a bad shout
  • Sheff Weds have 5 strikers that would walk straight into our starting eleven, can't see them goimng for Haynes.
  • West Ham friend just sent me this, worth a read.

  • Have to agree with the comments above that CAFC fans in general are obsessed by strikers when our problems are clearly at the other end of the pitch as no clean sheets since the start of Novemeber shows.

Have we been linked with any centre-halves who may or may not have an inkling of pace about them?
  • We also only have 3 central midfielders including McCormack who hasn't impressed me so far with Jackson as a possible.

Racon/Semedo blow hot and cold so would like to see us getting a decent box to box CM in as well as at least 2 maybe 3 defenders - CB with pace - RB if Solly not recovered and LB whether Fry stays or not as I much prefer to Jackson in MF rather than at LB where he can get skinned

Could do with a midfielder or two as well. We don't have any wide players who we can rely on to put in good crosses and if we could find the right player we could possibly improve on our central midfield.
  • Ok, sounds like we need 11 players then....
