  • Didn't go but to have a man advantage against 2 promotion contenders and not take advantage over it I fear might come back to haunt us later. Least we didn't lose.
  • very tight league 2 wins from top 2 defeats from mid table. We need to start winning though, draws are not enough,Benson to miss Swindon,Spurs and Sheff Wed

Perhaps our sensational 20-goals-a-season new signing will be unveiled tomorrow!
  • Crap ref may well have robbed us in the second half after appearing to do the same to Colchester in the first. The myopic officials in this crap league really drive me nuts.

Once again we could not take advantage of ten men. Ominously, Brighton and Southampton blew their opposition away. Unless we strengthen right away with some decent acquisitions then we can kiss goodbye to automatic promotion I reckon, we are just too toothless.
  • Matt Fry has apologised for his first half performance on twitter

    M_Fry90 Matthew Fry
Apolagise for my horrible 1st half performance. Worst in a long time!
  • Sounded an end-to-end game with the ref doing his best to even things up. 2 sendings off, 2 Benson goals disallowed, 2 penalties, I thought good refs were supposed to be 'hardly noticed'!!

Overall happy with a point, but our defending from set plays still sounded very poor and once again we only get going when we have fallen behind.....lets hope we can make Monday a good day and play like we did when we were at the county ground a few weks ago.
Bensons (allowed) goal sounded a cracker, but Francis sounded as though he had a bit of a mare as everything for Colchester game down the right and he couldn't cope with it, Waggy again sounded as though he wasn't in the game, but as I only listened perhaps someone there may say different.

wont matter anyway my old son cos he is f---ing useless.

we need a goalscorer ASAP .
  • Feel sorry for Benson missing WHL,he was so pleased that he would be playing (if picked) at a Premier League ground as he had never played at one before.

That is genuinely sad! Perhaps it will inspire his team mates to go and win the game so Benno can go to Old Trafford or Stamford Bridge in the next round. Although that would cause another league fixture postponement, so perhaps not such a good idea.

Truly sorry for Benson. From his newspaper columns and his tweets , he seems like a genuinely nice guy and he clearly would have loved to play at WHL, even though we are bound to get right royally stuffed.
  • Seems we're going to appeal so there's a chance he will be able to play

  • We must be doing something right, top away scorers in all four divisions.
  • On train home now. disappointed with a draw. far too much going on to comment on everything so just a few thoughts:

not the best view of either pen decision so can't comment. fry v poor 1st half and done like a kipper for 2nd goal. doc exposed and 'drunk' again 1st half, his man for the corner for their 1st. elliot at one point couldn't walk, didn't take a long goal kick for about half an hour and i've got no idea how we let the poor sod stay on regardless of how much he wanted to. overall disappointed with draw, thought we only really got agitated and in their faces at 3-2. fair play to benson, he had everything in about 15mins...great overhead, offside looked touch and go, lino let the header go and let the ref overrule him without a word and then benno puts in a committed, but fairly poor challenge, their player rolls on a 3 second delay and suddenly the lino has the balls to get involved. disgraceful.

overall, a committed performance but poor defending and inability to create clearcut chances cost us.
  • Poor defending. Both goals from our left backs side but I expect it will be Francis' fault

Desperately need a midfielder who can unlock defences with a pass but could also do with another striker. Anyinsah is just too injury prone

Robbie should have gone off - really limping and I'm staggered colchester didn't keep pumping high balls into the box

Waggy, Martin, reidy - all had bad days. Nothing really worked for them.

Thought Pawel looked useful though - handy as he'll be playing at Spurs if benno is suspended
  • Just to add:

abbott lively, reid not so much...seems to have lost confidence along with his place maybe? martin...a lot didn't come off for him but he worked his balls off. Waggy same old for me. must've touched the ball half a dozen times and every pass was square or back.

WTF! Are they having the confidence and skill coached out of them?

Thought Fry had pretty much already put his hand up and accepted the blame?

Just got back. Overall, I wouldn't complain too much about the ref - if Mini-Boris hadn't been sent off they'd have mullered us. We were appalling until the ref evened things up. Fry poor, Francis poor, Doherty out of sorts, Waggy invisible, Martin lightweight. I'm really surprised that Elliot lasted the full 90 minutes - credit to him for doing so (proper Charlton) after the leg injury and the kick in the head, but there were times when I felt it would have been better to have swapped him for Worner. He did get better though and produced a couple of great saves. For me the big difference between the teams was that they broke with pace down the wings and got 2-3 men charging into the box when they attacked. We didn't. I put this to a Col U mate afterwards who replied, "yeah, but that was easy with your full backs!".

Positives: We did fight our way back into it in the second half, it was a much better performance. That was apparently Colchester's best performance of the season so it's not as if the competition isn't that brill.

Question: Why was our last goal disallowed?
  • my 2nd and last visit to that dump....even if we do play them next season, at least the new junction helped me be back in Welling by 6.

strange game, we really should've taken more than a point, as said above - two games against 10 men for large parts of both and we only come out of them with 2 points.

Fry was woeful in the first half, mind you Dailly aside, so were the rest of the back 4.....also thought Waggy was completely out of sorts, at one point he completely bottled a challange.

Abbott did o.k when he came on, great goal from Benson - couldn't really see what he was sent off for, surely not just for the block tackle.

We really need a centre half, creative midfielder and striker..........please new owners.
  • Benson massively unlucky both with the disallowed goal and the sending off, hopefully the red card will be pulled

Blimey, I'd only just walked back to my car by then.

More likely they're all fairly young wingers, they're going to be inconsistent. Despite what some say, none of them are too good for this league.

Just back, nice quick journey out of the ground, only good thing about it. No atmosphere again.

Another 2 points dropped, obviously did not learn from our mistakes against Brighton and continued today to look the weaker team when having a man advantage.

Not sure if Elliott should of stayed on the pitch, he was visibly injured in the first half with Worner stripped and on the touchline ready to come on, went on to make a good save or two after though. Fry was poor first half which has been covered above, Dailly was his usual solid self and commanded the line with Doherty. Francis gets slated for a reason, not because he is a easy target. Another poor game today, again got forward well but his crossing was again terrible. Jackson took his penalties well but was quiet other than that along with Semedo and Racon, Wagstaff had another anonymous game and his replacement Reid is the shadow of the player he was last season, lost all confidence. Benson put himself about but apart from his superb goal didn't have the greatest of games. Couldn't see anything wrong with the disallowed goal. Abbott looked good when he came on, held the ball up well and linked well with midfield although didn't look like scoring.

Disappointing all round again, really need to beat a terrible Swindon side at home on Monday without a doubt.
  • Very poor performance, really not at the races. Not sure why first pen was given but second was handball on the line. Once again we couldn't capitalise against ten men. Why when they had a corner did we bring everyone back? Surely we should have been leaving two up? As for Benno's two disallowed goals the firstvwas way offside but he still decided to round the keeper and slot it home. Our fans then started booing the keeper for taking his time retrieving it and taking the kick. Doh !! As for the second Benno had his hands on the defenders shoulders using him for leverage so right decision in my opinion. So we have played two hours of football this week against ten men and still can't take advantage. Shame Parky didn't take heed of Brownies criticism on Wednesday as once again he had no answer as to what to do. He is tactically inept. We are so powder puff and toothless it's unreal. After an improvement around the time of Peterborough we are going backwards again. We didn't work their keeper nearly enough and he must have gone off at half time thinking he'd run over a cat or something. Despite a draw it really feels like a defeat. Reinforcements can't come quick enough although I believe a change at the top would be much more beneficial in the long run. If Preston come calling it would give the new owners a handy get out, if I were them I'd take it.

dumped the motor at 1.45 just to the left of that first big roundabout, half expected a ticket but took a chance. Straight out at final whistle and off.
  • parky says that overall it was a good performance
  • thats good enough for me threadkiller...
  • Strange circs surrounding the decision for Elliott to carry on. The team doc. diagnosed he had concussion - but he was kept on because Worner had stitches in his knee from a knock on the training ground yesterday.

Surely you either have a sub keeper on the bench who is fit to take over - or you don't. And it sounds like we didn't!

All credit to Elliott, though. Very brave and ''proper Charlton'', as we all like to say...
