  • God damn awful. No guile or cutting edge whatsoever. Worst Charlton team since I have been a supporter in 49 years.
  • The 3rd poor performance of the trot with no signs of improvement even after changes to the team last night. For me the midfield is lacking with the exception of Reid. Semedo needs to be dropped, for a centre midfielder his passing is very poor. I know he's in there as a anchor man but he offers very little else to the team. At least Racon does try to create things.
  • Doherty hoofs forward everything and Dailly tries to play it out. Dailly won headers and it was only when I realised it was McCormack not Doherty doing that on the ones that went over Dailly that I realised how useless Doherty was.
  • The thing that gets me is we look devoid of ideas going forward. It seems to be hit the front man who last night was Abbott (who I have to confess to thinking is useless) and hope something breaks. That for me is not the way to play football, it might have worked for teams in the past. But you can't spout about "having that extra bit of quality" and then hump it long. I find it insulting.
  • I was shocked how poor reid seems to have become also, I think Parky needs to make sure as many of our goal scorers as possible are on the pitch as much as possible - as they seem to score independently of our form

its like we have gone backwards 3 months and the same things are being witnessed and said all over again
  • Post 75 by Masicat on this thread is absolutely spot on. Semedo and Racon do not have a football brain between them and that is the fundamental problem in this team and the reason it is so bloody poor. Birtles on the commentary said why doesn't somebody put there foot on it in midfield? Nobody has put their foot on it in midfield for us all season. They are always so rushed and so clueless because they are such poor players. As Masicat syas, they don't want the ball and don't know what to do with it when they get it. (and by the way, Mcormack is even worse) I'll put my tin hat on again but it's so bloody obvious.

Totally agree, it's quite strange. The thing is a genuinely believe talent wise we do have a good enough team to not only get out of this league but also to win it comfortably. The thing I think we're lacking is real strength of character in those players. When it went to penno's last night other than Jackson I couldn't think of anyone else other than Dailly who I thought could actually take one. I was convinced Jacko would miss too because any goalkeeper worth their salt would have just stood there.
  • Who threw a beer can at Elliot? One of ours?

Although I could only watch the 2nd half on TV after getting in from work, the major problem looked the same to me as it did on Sunday... Semedo & Racon were just a vacuum in midfield, caught out of position/on the ball in defence and reluctance as always to contribute to the attack, Semedo in particular I think has been a shadow this season.
  • We have played so many games in the last 6 weeks or so that sooner or later we were always gonna hit a brickwall. We only have a small squad and everytime we have made changes for cup games our form has dropped off a bit. We are now free to concentrate on the league without any excuses (such as a Johnstones Paint 2 legged semi final).

I don't think they are poor players. They are certainly very frustrating players because there are sometimes entire games where the two of them seem to go missing. They might as well not have been out there last night, or on Sunday.

But on their day(and they have had a few this season) they are excellent. What is most worrying is this nagging feeling one can't avoid that if they were playing somewhere else they would be better players and would probably perform more consistently than they do for us.

well he was in our end, cant really call him 'one of ours'. People only saw the general direction it came from, so couldnt tell exactly who it was but the group of rats in that section got some stick for it.
  • Lacking any real zing, most players underperformed, Jenkinson was impressive as was Kyel Reid. It is just a pity that nobody had Kyel's speed of thought and foot all night long. To be fair to Brentford they edged it- but not by much and you cant legislate for the keepers great spot kick saves. Brentford are dark horses in this league and could well win the JPT.
  • Playing devils' advocate, their kepper done his homework of Jackson, bearing in mind how many peanalty shootouts Brentford have been in this
year should we have had a better idea where they were going ?
  • Such a shame we lost but what a thoroughly absorbing and entertaining game that was. You could really tell our players were desperate to play at Wembley and put on a real show for the fans after the slight dissapointment of Wallsall on Sunday, it just wasn't meant to be.

But for a little extra luck we would have scored one of the many chances we created, Brentford must be wondering how on earth they are through.

Well done lads, and especially Parky for at leat giving us fans that went real value for money and something to be proud off.

    Up the Addicks.

    :-)

Really? I thought they looked more likely to score than us.

So tell me why we are fourth and not, eighteenth or thereabaouts?

A good question. More by luck than judgement in my opinion. The amount of decent performances you can count on one hand and I can think of far more games where we have got more than we deserved as opposed to those where we got less than we deserved.
  • The impressive unbeaten run is now gone, the last performances have been pretty dire- now we shall see which is the 'real' Charlton and which was the fluke. Well, I hope so anyway.

Ludicrous to blame Semedo & Racon (and McCormack) because the ball was constantly being launched over their heads. As for not showing for the ball, they shouldn't be expected to come deep into our half to get the ball, even sunday sides have the defence pass the ball around until they get to the halfway line, why can't ours? The question is, are they obeying Parky's orders by kicking it long or ignoring his orders to play on the floor?

I don't think they are poor players. They are certainly very frustrating players because there are sometimes entire games where the two of them seem to go missing. They might as well not have been out there last night, or on Sunday.

  • Had a couple of days to think about the performance - which I watched on the web. Think the thread title "utter shite" is going a bit far! They were far from great but improved over the Walsall game. If this had been a league one game and we got a draw against the current top-of-form club (which Brentford are) and after 3 games in 6 days then most people would be happy with tha - me included. Remember we've still only really lost 1 in 12!
  • We were a lot better than on Sunday and the biggest problem was lack of bite up front which is hardly suprising playing Abbott on his own. Abbott is just not up to this job and we looked more of a threat when Anyinsah came on. Yes, missing out on those 3 additional games gould benefit us so we have to hope it does. I take issue with the point that all 3 penalties were good. A good penalty will always result in a goal. Racon's and Reids penalties were not terrible - I think that is the fairest way to describe a miss from 12 yards. However Jackson's effort was an incredibly bad miss - not technically but because it exposed total stupidity IMO. I said before he took it that all he has to do is go wide right or left and he will score as there is no way the keeper won't stay on the spot - who was willing him to bang it down the middle- go on - own up. I'd wager nobody. Which makes it one of the worse penalties I have ever seen!!!!

Tell me why we have scored and created so few chances at home and why we have put about 45 minutes of decent football in all season?

And contrast that with our away record ...... and those of us who go to away games when we can, would have witnessed plenty of goals and good performances.

    Food for thought ....?

  • We're 4th in the table with a team that hardly cost a bean. Parky has done very well really just cobbling this side together. We are inconsistent, which is hardly surprising. I would like to see Selp play as Jonny F seems to be struggling. That might give us a lift before the transfer window opens.
Another week and we find out who our new owners are. Hopefully not the Valley Cafe! (bless them)
