it was an awful game but the last few games have been awful we really do lack something going forward the only + last night was jenkinson the lad looked composed and did ok in his 1st game .

as for the JPT i think it is just a fixture pile up trophy ok it would av been nice to get to wembley have a day out and all that ,but do we really want it just look at the crowds at the games last night people seem uniterested ,we should be using this cup to nurture some of our younger players but the league insists on us playing so many 1st team players ,personally i think it is a loads of bollocks.
  • Its typical Charlton that neither of our 2 strikers like taking penalties!

    WTF!
  • Was a dreadful performance, Dailly and Reid were the only people to come out of that game with positives.

Abbott is beyond useless, like a more rubbish version of Akpo. Martin tries too hard, shows some promise but NEVER delivers the final ball, send him back. The rest were just painfully below average and never really got out of 1st gear.

I don't think we had a chance on goal all game and how Brentford missed a couple of their chances near the end is beyond me and that would of saved us the humiliation of another penalty shoot out loss.
  • Ive read a lot of comments over time on here and how we have players of championship standard well there not showing it and any one who thinks this squad will get us promoted is quite mistaken.
  • What I'm getting tired of is out complete unwillingness/ inability to put a ball into the area. Martin is a show pony who has absolutely zero end product. But to be fair Reid- despite being far superior- also seems to have an aversion to getting an early ball in.
If you compared us to Brentford I would say one of the big things we lacked in the final third was AGGRESSION. We fanny about before delivering balls. They never seem to be whipped in with any pace. And there never seems to be any great rush from the strikers to meet them. Probably because they've been waiting so long they're surrounded by defenders.
Oh, and two strikers who don't like taking penalties??????? What am I hearing here! Has the world gone bloody mad? I return to my earlier point about aggression.
Ultimately I'll feel a lot better if we win on Saturday. It is only the JPT and nobody really cared till a few weeks ago. But having got ourselves into the position it's a tame way to go out.
I don't think Abbott is that great but also I don't think the support and service any of our strikers get from midfield is good enough.
  • Woahhhh folks chill the fudge down.

Let's look at it sensibly poor result ? Not really brentford bang in form and are at home nil nil is a good result.

I was looking for a better performance than Sunday and it was better.

their keeper made some great penalty saves really good especially from racon.

negatives. strikers that don't have the bollox to take pens unacceptable in my opinion.

we are back to looking average if we don't score first.

we need to stop the losing and quick

something is not right I don't see the harmony in the camp especially between kins and parky might not be right I may be seeing things that ain't there but something is going on in the camp
  • We lined up 4-5-1 (4-3-3 don't make me laugh!) and yet we continually pumped it long up to Abbott apart from one spell just before half time we got passing it and created a few chances but that was it. Barely tested their keeper. Despite plaudits even Jenkinson was hitting it long. The question for me is: were they ignoring Parky's instructions or obeying them? If they should have been passing it why wasn't Parky or Breaker on the touchline berating them?

This is going to be a long winter, I'm not sure how we won those games on the trot now.
  • Perhaps I am being over critical but I am afraid that falls into category of not good enough. How many games this season have we had one or only two shots on target in 90 minutes? I have seen us a total of 15 times this season & have been impressed / happy with about with about Three or maybe Four games. I want to back the Team & Manager but they do make it hard for us to do so sometimes, making us watch crap like that.
  • I just can't see why we are unable to deliver decent crosses into the opponents penalty area. Brentford last night showed how it should be done, time and again they caused problems by a simple decent delivery into the box. Do we not work on this in training????
  • Sick of it now. Time to get real. I cannot watch this crap for much longer. Are Charlton going to lose fans? My 83 year old dad doesn't want to go again until things change ( and he has been going for 75 years ) my 19 year old went out last night rather than watch, and one of my other sons has tried to see his ticket.
This isn't funny anymore. To me , the fault lies firmly in midfield. racon and Semedo GROSSLY overated by too many supporters. They don't want the ball, and when they get it, they don't know what to do with it.
Have always supported Parkinson, but cannot go on. WHAT ARE THEY DOING IN TRAINING FOR GOD'S SAKE.

Made the point Racon delivered any early ball in and Martin got on the end of it but it was a poor header. We do try to do it too much at times, just get it in the box.

Disappointed we lost as 2 games vs Exeter I would've fancied our chances for a trip to Wembley. Let's hope last night will be the last time we have to play in this competition...
  • [cite]Posted By: oohaahmortimer[/cite]We were just unlucky that we ran into a keeper who was good at saving penalties
Was dailly down for the 5th cos he certainly got one of the best ones against swindon
Jackson was too obvious but hopefully he'll learn from that
A lot of the players look like our suspect coaching methods have turned them into poo , martin and abbott look a shadow of the players who appeared at the beginning of the season
Anyway of more pressing concern is my feelings on how we're shaping up after our good run and something just doesn't feel right , we have the players imo but have our management the ability to get the maximum out of them for the coming months
Sadly my previous confidence has ticked back a bit after recent pub league pub like performances.

    This.
  • Personally thought it was an ok performance and certainly miles better than we were in the league at Brentford.

Never really thought either side would nick it until the last 5 mins.

0-0 draw against an in form decent side and people are slitting wrists.

The fella that threw the bottle of lager at Elliott needs to have that wrapped round his face, little mug.

I have now seen 5 penalty shoot out defeats (England and Charlton) and 1 win :(

Yeah that was piss poor, just why would you do that? Full showing from the youth last night, train back was a joke.

proper little prick. shit himself as well.
  • We are the most GUTLESS team I have ever seen, the players have no team spirit and no work ethic to work for one another.

We play at very little tempo, and i think to many are buying into this Parky bollocks about we have a lot of quality out there but we got to earn the right to play.

Well parky we may have quality but we have the backbone of an eel.

I am a supporter of parky but last night you got it wrong in my eyes.

You give Abbott a chance that you state he has been waiting for and working hard in training for then let him go it alone up front and whack 30 yards pass in the vague direction of him. Yeah bet he cant wait for another go.

The Subs was left miles to late in my eyes he needed someone alongside him at half time and taking anyone of the midfield trio out should have been your move.
  • I think the Parky tide is turning yet again i bet he is hoping for a run like after Brighton cos his days are up if it doesnt happen
  • [cite]Posted By: nth london addick[/cite]I think the Parky tide is turning yet again i bet he is hoping for a run like after Brighton cos his days are up if it doesnt happen

I dont think so quite a show of support for him last night
  • From those at the game there a BIG show of support for Parky.

Last night wasn't that badalthough not that good either. It was against a team on quite a bit of form including having just beaten the favourites to finish top2.

Let's not forget that this was our 3rd game in 5 days. This not only affects players legs but also tactics and preparation. Teams take a week or at least 3 or 4 days to build up and knowing pretty much what the team line up is going to be. Parky wouldn't have been sure of his team until maybe Monday lunchtime with no time to prepare or fine tune tactics.
  • Richard lee was on taksport after they beat everton on penalties, apprently he uses some kind of hypnothearpy when it comes to shootouts, he has an unbelivable record in shootouts so must work, he is way better than a league one goalie and with saves like that he could play at a much higher level. Abbots hold up play was ok in the first half but he needed someone alongside him, think him and anyinsah could be a good partnership, semedo was lucky not to be sent off again and dailly took a few risks. i dont think we should be getting to pissed off about tonight to be honest. the league is the be all and end all this year and a win on saturday of any kind will make last night not hurt so much. if you were given the choice between going to wembley for the paint trophy or wembley for the playoff final what would you chose?

  • Suicidal on here!

We played hoofball 1st half which is what tends to happen when you just stick a target man up top, a target man who can't do a lot. Game was crying out for Jackson & another striker to come on. Which they did and the last half hour we actually passed it like we know we can and looked dangerous going forward.

Brentford are the form team in L1, bar one change that Brentford side beat Southampton comfortably at the weekend.

It was obviously a pretty poor performance but throwing statements like ''i'm not going until it changes'' out there is just ridiculous. Been beaten once in 13 !

agree with that, but their reluctance to get the ball in the box is so frustrating!!...jackson, and i think it was racon, had 2 or 3 chances to get a decent ball in but didnt. drives me mad.

That is the problem having Jackson on the right he was always looking to have time to cut in to put the cross in.
  • Team was rubbish

    Our support was great
  • i think this game needs to be taken in the context of form. ours has been dipping lately. they had won 7 out of last 10 after 1 in first nine. it stacks up for two evenly matched teams that just cancelled each other out. i doubt any armchair viewers will have been overawed with the standard or play. it wasn't a great advert for third tier football, especially when we consider that these are two of the 'better' teams. if we consider the last two games, walsall are fighting for their survival in a league we consider beneath us and brentford have very little expectation placed upon them. i'm not sure what the answer is to get out of this league, but a settled squad is crucial so i dont feel that a wholesale change in january (finances permitting) is the way forward, or another season may just drift by with a curbs style finale.
  • Better performance than the Walsall game , but still not good enough , Jenkinson was great , a breath of fresh air , Abbott underwhelmed me , i'm still waiting for him to burst into life , and score , we were shocking in the final 3rd , great to have Dailly back , looked more solid in defence , really need to get a win against Hartlepool , a pivotal game awaits ... snow permitting!

The one good thing about all these games coming so thick and fast is that there is not too much time to dwell.

You have to look forward and we've now got Hartlepool in just 76 hours time.

Parky has to work out in those hours how to get us back on track as I think Sat is now a big, big game. We must win and we need to win well.

If we fail to score up there for the third consecutive game, the confidence is really going to dip. Christ, we've already got strikers who don't fancy taking a penalty and prefer to leave it to the centre-backs and midfielders. What are they going to be like if we go into the tough Xmas/New Year run of Soton followed by Brighton and Colchester away without a goal in 270 mins football?

As others have said, somehow Parkinson has to conjure a similar response to the one he got after Brighton last time. In the middle of all this we've got the unveiling of new owners, too, which one hopes will not distract them from the task at hand.

By the time we go to White Hart Lane in January, we could conceivably be top - or we could have sunk to eighth or ninth. Absolutely vital 4-5 games coming up, IMO.
  • A few of the usual overreactions on here as per!

It was a poor performance but if the subs had come on at half time I think we would have won it. We looked better with the first team on, naturally. Abbott was hopeless again and Martin is capable of sublime ball skills, leading to... nothing. He's a tragic waste of talent.

Glad to see Dailly back and though Reid looked dangerous no chances were made for the striekrs which is an indictment of the midfield. Jenkinson did ok. Hopefully will put some pressure on Francis now.

Losing on pens is nothing to be ashamed of. It's a lottery. Their keeper was superb. The only player who should be kicking himself over the pens is Jacko. We all knew where he was going to put it, so the keeper would too. Was a bit thick of him to try it again.

Top marks to the fans, who were superb all night and made it worth it even if we lost. (Except the idiot with the beer can).

Nil points to Brentford's catering manager who had neglected to stock any pies on a cold night with a decent away crowd. How hard is your job?
  • Anyone know the official away attendance ?

Spoke to a fellow fan this morning and we were discussing the JPT game and the Walsall game - I was at the latter, he'd watched the JPT game on TV. He said from what he's heard and from what I told him, that the Walsall game is the sort of game which makes people decide not to go back for the rest of the season. I had to agree - it was that bad. By all accounts the team was better last night and if we get back to winning ways maybe it will all be forgiven?
