We'll know it's worked if Brentford start with 9 men.
Awful. Walsall deserved the 3 points. They closed us down very well and we just couldn't deal with it. We stopped doing everything that made us hard to beat and usually won us games.
We have options to change things around on Tuesday so hopefully we'll see a much better performance on Tuesday.
It's a 46 game season and plenty of teams near the top drop points in games they should win (something we did ourselves in 99/00 but still won the league). We saw that last season and it's the same this season. The main thing is the team react soon just as we did after the Brighton game.
Of course it was nowhere near good enough, but we can't overreact to one very poor performance. Just as we shouldn't if we go out and win 5-0 on Tuesday.

Would love for that to be true haha, it would be EXCELLENT
An infuriating result/performance, especially as we really could have tightened the screw at the top.Of the 'three games in six days', this is the one I wanted to win the most, but bottom club walsall 'had their best performance of the season' - oh what a surprise. I don't know what's happening, we seem better playing away, perhaps there's less pressure on the team, whilst all our opponents seem to enjoy their matches at The Valley more than us.
Walsall were bad , we were very bad today in my book , i had a bad feeling about this game , if you've been a fan a while 1 thing you learn is not to get carried away with things .. whatever division we're in , regardless of the fact we played 11 games unbeaten the signs have been there for a few games in my book , whilst 11 games unbeaten sounds good , 4 of them were Fa cup games against teams from a lesser division , coupled with the fact Parky got the Manager of the Month award , and we were playing bottom of the table team who'd lost 12 league games this season , we need to bounce back quick , if we go another 12 games unbeaten i'll be happy , but today is a day i want to forget in a hurry , i'm not one for booing , but i could have been tempted today, i thought the atmosphere was pretty flat ( not much footie to get excited about , i think we thought we were going to trounce them).
Players performances have got to improve big time , why does everyone have a go at Francis ? anyone would think he couldn't pass a ball judging by the reaction of the crowd .... oops sorry he can't , what does he do in training ? his positional sense is appalling.
Walsall were bad? That is churlish to say the least. 3-0 wouldn't have flattered them. Give them some credit, they played the ball around well and created chances. What was also pleasing was that at no point did they shut up shop and park the bus, not that they needed to though. Well done Walsall.
I didn't think Walsall were good , i think we made them look good because so many players played much worse then their able to, if that means i'm churlish , and uncomplimentary, fine i try to be fair when decisions are clearly not ours , but this performance resonates in the gut , i can't find anything good to say about it , we deserved nothing and got ... nothing.
Man U play crap and lose to West Ham the other week 4-0 2nd in the league vs bottom no one cares everyones over it straight away. Charlton play crap and lose to Walsall this week 2nd in the league bs bottom. This things happen all the time.

Before you say it I know that was a cup game.[/quote]
I thought we looked tired from the off. Maybe we didn't take them seriously, but we just didn't seem to have any time on the ball and based on the average performances in recent weeks this was always coming.
We have won several games this season that I thought we shouldn't have and I don't remember seeing us lose one I thought we deserved something in.
If this continues for the rest of the season we can still go up. Frankly I don't care how the wins come, as long as they come.
I have a friend that is a Leeds fan and he suggested that last season they won many games that they had no right to. As I have little experiance on this division I just don't know if it is possible to be successful by paying poor football and winning game after game that who'd have been lost. However, for now I'll admit that if you'd offered me the last seven results after Brighton I'd have ripped your hand off.
It was bad and it was poor, but we have to move on and see what we get next Saturday at Hartlepool.
I do think I'd be tempted to write off the Brentford game though and play a reserve side (as much as we can in the rules) and rest most of the current first team.
[cite]Posted By: northstandsteve[/cite]Rothko it's not the fact we bought him it's the amount we spent it's a lot of money for someone so lightweight when Joe went off we had nothing up front.
Benno is no more expensive than the other players brought in during the summer over a two year contract period, his cost has ben more upfront with a transfer fee but his wages are lower.
Agree we look lightweight upfront and Akpo should have come on for Joe

You mean for Benny don't you? Or do you mean Akpo instead of Martin for Joe?
i assume joe went off with another injury so in that event then akpoe for joe instead of martinas that then meant we hsd two lightweights up front. but if joe is fit and tactical sub then akpoe for benno, taking joe off would have been madness
Is it a surprise that Walsall worked out how to counter us?
For much of the first 45 minutes at Luton, the TV cameras showed the whole world that we don't like teams in our faces, we don't react well to a physical approach, or being denied time and space on the ball.
Let me say it again: teams are learning that we don't function as a creative unit - if we're denied time and space on the ball.
So that's exactly what Walsall did.
The sad thing today is that we didn't seem to have the wit or will to raise our game.
Now that does need addressing.
One positive ..... it's evident by his comments that a very let down and disappointed Parky has made that his first priority.
My first game for ages and was surprised at how lacking in confidence every player was considering our recent run.
- defence very slow. Fortune is not a good enough footballer to play at the fitness level he is now.
- Francis and Benson looked like non-league players
- we made life extremely difficult for ourselves by not having enough players close to our man in possession which is why we had to resort to hit and hope balls most of the time
Dreadful performance. Has been on the cards for a while. Sounds ridiculous, but how did Parky watch the first 45 minutes without changing something,? I would have taken Ayinsah off after 10 minutes. Semedo and Racon were poor and bever 'showed' to the back 4 to collect the football. What has happened to Benson? Wagstaff still to me Mr well overated. Fortune and Docherty come out of this with some credit. Will be surprised if this is a one off. Luton and Barnet outplayed us, and we have been lucky in other games. No passion and no skill. Players don't move the ball quick enough, and the front 2 are that split second too slow and lose a yard even against crap defenders. aaaaaarrrrrgggggggg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We are a not very good squad in a very poor Division.
I am stunned we were 2nd to be honest and still pleased we are 4th.
We dont have a squad that can go for three things(promotion,Paint pot and an FA Cup run)-- we barely have the squad to compete in the league.
we havnt played well for a few games, was wondering if it was the Spurs game coming up or the thought of Wembley but then i remembered Brentford away ! They being bottom and we being truely kak in that game.
Glass half full------------we can see it wont take much to get out of this division this year.
Glass half empty-----------god when we are poor we smell the place up.
One defeat is not a disaster,it would be nice to be sitting one point behind Brighton, as long as they can have another sit down and chat and get back on track no problems. What did worry me was the confidence issue, both Benson and Reid had chances to shoot but passed to players in worse positions and secondly Semedo and Racon were awful and just did not stand up to the challenge from the bottom of the table midfield.
A point made aboe is about how we capituate against teams getting in our faces, there are more teams in this league that do this than not so we need to get over it and either the current players face up or get in someone who can - and that will come down to the new buyers.
we just dont move the ball around the pitch quick enough and dont attack the space when it is there.Yesterday on numerous occasions when the was a clear 15 yards ahead of the player in possession , all we did was whack a 30 yard ball into the channels. Now imho opinion our manager and coaching staff should have put a stop to it, but this continued for the whole game.We are fast becoming long ball merchants and this makes the viewing experience extremely boring, we need to attack games with urgency from the first minute.

Sounds like we watched different games, Oggster. It wasn't a case of Walsall working out how to counter us. How could it be when we didn't offer anything for them to counter?
As Parky himself said, not one of the 14 players he put on the pitch had a good game. Whatever the reason for that, it wasn't because they were bullied out of it by Walsall, who I didn't feel were particularly physical. They had no great tactical plan to thwart us. They didn't need one. They just worked hard, while the whole of our team was flat from the kick-off and couldn't even do the basic things. Like passing, closing down, getting the right side of your oppo etc.
Don't think it would be an exageration to say i've only seen us play well for about 45 minutes at home all season. Midfield is shockingly devoid of a football brain / ability. Amazed we are where we are in the division. Roll on the 24th Dec and a revolution.
The defence sit too deep to allow the midfield to play, the shape is too strung out. Parky can't see it so cannot change things. His only options over the last two years have been to change personnel and hope something happens. I have resigned my self to a hopeful promotion based on poor performances, lucky bounces, set-pieces and taking the lead first.
Semedo is a defender playing in midfield. Racon, for all his silky touches occassionally is not in the game enough and does not have the football brain required to control a midfield. We have been outplayeda t home by Luton and now Wallsall and our midfiled has gone missing in both games - Mcormack was even worse against Luton. Cannot understamd how Kinsella can be so close to it all. He always showed for the ball which is what a good centre midfield player should do - none of ours want the ball or have the abilitry to receive it unless in acres of space. That is the problem hence why we feed off of scraps. Half a season and still not a comfortbale home win. Absolute rubbish. Moan all you like about o=ver reactions but my view has never changed.
To call our Performance 'A Bad day at the Office' has to be the biggest understatement of the year. We were beyond woeful. I am sure I have seen us play worse, just cannot remember when. Credit to Walsall though, they done their homework hurried us in possession & should of won by more.
Highlight of the game was the final whistle, could not wait for the game to finish.
It was basic tactical errors now for once i will say i dont believe they came from Parky, (i dont think he done enough to stop them but i dont know that and i wont hold him solely accountable)
There needs to be a confidence to be a footballer, confidence to take a touch lokk up and make the right decision, thats what seperates Premier from championship, Championship from League one however league 1 through to BSP there is very little difference.
Yesterday we had no confidence in the individuals ability to make the right decision, and before those that WERE NOT there start saying thats because the fans were booing,
I mean from the first whistle.
Ability was missing from Goalie to Striker, Robbie inside 10 mins came for a ball that forts couldve dealt with leaving the goal gapping fortunatley they missed
Robbie shouldve come for a ball that was a simple punt over the top which forts was never going to win
Then he came out to save time and build up play only to kick the ball to touch and breakdown play.
Doc madea few early unenforced errors but got hold of his game to look the bestter of a very bad pair.
Fortunes decision making, passing, headering was non league standard
Semedo, Racon poor everything
Waggy, Jacko poor everything
Benson Pub league standard won a couple of headers thats it.
Anyinsah I have no idea why a man inform is taken out of the team
A lot of work needs doing in basic coaching and basic man management lets see if he can do it

I agree with that, I have to say. And in the light of that I'd commend the vast majority of Charlton Lifers because I think the response to our worst performance in more years than most of us can remember has been measured, sensible and even subdued, because we all acknowledge it came on the back of a long unbeaten run and expect the team to show us it was an aberration with a return to form tomorrow night.
