PETER Varney has yet to discuss whether he will have a role if a mystery investor group complete its takeover of Charlton.
The Addicks former chief executive is representing the potential buyers, who do not want to reveal their identity until they have completed the due diligence process.
But Varney told the South London Press that his long-term future has not been discussed: “It’s not the most pressing item because the important thing is to get the due diligence done as quickly as possible.
“It is a discussion which will take place at the right time and this isn’t the right time.
“The due diligence is key to the whole process and everyone is focused on that. We plan to talk down the line.”

Very interesting... i just assumed he would be heavily involved, maybe even the new Chairman, if the deal went through
Where did Varney or the Club ever say he would be involved post-deal?
Curb-it has said it more than once that just because it said PV was leading the deal it didn't mean he would be the new Chairman, a director or CEO. People just leapt to that conclusion.
And this doesn't mean he WON'T be involved either. We just don't know.
If PV says "I'm going to be this or that when the takeover happens" then that starts another round of speculation on who's leaving etc etc and puts whoever is in that post in a damaged position if the takeover doesn't happen.
Not saying anything means they are not saying anything. The speculation is fine but it is just speculation.
Exactly HI, which is why i'm looking at it that on the base presumption he has no involvement going forward.
We already have a Chief Exec in place (Kav) and i think the chances that RM will stay on in some capacity is more likely than not, i don't see how he fits into the picture other than being the middleman he has been for the last two years.
[cite]Posted By: razil[/cite]I still think there is a hint that its a former group - since they seem to be wary of due dilligence before making any sort of commitment.
I thought they said it was a done deal, and legally binding

It all depends, imho, on how hands on the new owners want to be, which of course we don't know.
If they want to run the Club day to day they may not see a role for RM but could want PV on the board.
If they don't want to run the thing then they could leave RM in place with the existing CEO plus Martin Jol as Director of Football. (joke).
Who knows? Maybe the hold up is who gets Steve Sutherland's old office?
I doubt somehow that Peter Varney will be involved in anything other than the negotiations. Didn't he (voluntarily) step down for personal reasons in 2008? It seems that he had a good relationahip at the time with Richard Murray and it was all amicable - so the question is would he even want to return in a management role? He's there for every home game anyway in his Lower West seat (that he used even when he was the CEO) - maybe he's just happy to set the club up with new investment and then go back into the background and enjoy being a supporter?
People speculating about speculation - you couldn't make it up. I blame the internet. Days gone by we would've only got more news on a Thursday - or whenever it was that the Mercury got delivered round your way.
Personally, I hope we never find out who they are, even after they've taken over.
I think it would be great if they turned up to matches wearing masks and only communicated with the world through PV, who only ever refered to them by their code names.

Not expecting a lot of dosh after Parky's post match comments- he was saying that the Chairman was the most excited of all of them because of the Spurs payday. Sounds to me like we will not be rolling in lots of new found lolly...

........ keeps the clubs we'll be raiding guessing how much we can pay for their star players. Or Parky could be suggesting that the new chairman (who'll be in place for the Cup game) will be getting back what he paid for the club, in one go !

Regarding the Boxing day game I am sure there will plenty of room in the west stand judging on previous matches..

I wonder what reason there is for the secrecy...? No other T/O has, why us?
