What a difference a striker with confidence (Benson) and a striker with pace and power (Anyinsah) make to a team. If these 2 can stay fit they could be our best strike partnership for years.
3 wins on the spin and tonight sounds like this gelling business is really starting to happen..
Jackson is the new bailey coming from deep on the overlap and burying them, at the same time as helping out defensively.. wagstaff looks terriifc, just seen his finish on saturday benson is gonna put em in all season, even racon is starting to play football...
brighton may have done us the biggest favour... if only souhtampton hadnt fired pardew!!
For us to win 3-0 away from home to anyone is a great improvement to us usually. Very proud of the lads and PP. 2 clean sheets on the trot, and Waggy and Elliot seemed to have a great game which is inspiring.
Was thinking the same, Brighton have helped us in that of hitting us down to earth.
Biggest positive from tonight was not sitting on our 2-0, or 3-0.. but still attacking!! not waiting to concede.
Well what a decent result and from the sounds of it a mighty fine performance too! I was in the give Parky a few more games camp after the Seagulls debacle (just)- so far he seems worthy of that. Anyinsah and Benson are gelling nicely and I am enjoying the regular doses of humble pie Benno is now regularly serving me. The best way to answer the doubters is to prove them wrong and Benno is doing just that-long may it continue. Very pleased for him.
I am increasingly confident about our chances, look at that bench tonight: Fortune, Llera, McCormack, Sodje, Abbot. That's five top-line players for this division, all of them could step in and do a good job.
The crucial factor could be Benson, last year we simply did not have a striker worthy of the name, Burton was a top-class (for this league) hold-up player, and the rest of them such as Mooney, Sodje and the rest were not out-and-out strikers either.
In Benson we seem to have a player that is capable of getting 25 goals and that is very important because it means that the goals that come from our midfielders such as Jackson, Wagstaff and Reid are no longer our main source of goals as they were last season.
If Benson AND Anyinsah both end up getting 15-20+ goals then you can pencil us in for promotion certainties.
No subs used tonight as Parkinson wanted the starting 11 "to get the job done". Like that approach but don't know why. From his quotes he is not getting carried away and is pleased we are learning.
What a win and what a performance it seems! So happy! And really do agree that losing to Brighton in that manner has really done us a favour! Parkinson also gets a big pat on the back from me, very pleased for him, and for every Charlton player.
We are now looking like a promotion team and if we continue playing like this, It. Will. Happen! CAFC!
Write more in morning but great, great win lads, our soured personally by the really poor performance of the Forum tonight. Apologies for the frustration it must have cause.
Over to Parky.....
"It was a professional performance, we had to rely on our goalkeeper in the first half to make a couple of crucial saves and in the second half I felt in the main we had control of the game and played to the conditions. It was very windy out there but we slid the balls down the side of their centre halves and our front two got on the end of most things and helped us get up the pitch.”
"Joe, I thought, was exceptional tonight, he chases lost causes and balls that you don't think he is going to get he makes. It's a credit to him and he's worked exceptionally hard since he's been here as he missed a lot of the pre-season.
Our sports scientist is on his case all of the time and if he can produce performances like he did tonight and show he can last the 90 minutes then we could have a player on his hands. In the last couple of matches he's got cramp and after about 65-70 minutes we have had to bring him off, but tonight he was fine.
"At 3-0 I was thinking about making substitutions but thought 'let's see this team see it through professionally. Obviously we had the game at Carlisle when we had a nervous time. But we didn't have that tonight. And that shows signs that this team is learning.”
"I'm delighted to win 3-0 away at a team like Swindon who are a very good side, but it's important that we keep our feet on the ground and keep reminding ourselves as we go to every game how hard we have had to defend tonight at set-plays. I thought we were looking very strong defensively and hope to take all those characteristics on to the next game.”
"I said to the lads before the game that we had to play like we were the home team tonight. On Saturday we were first to every ball, we were competitive and every pass was with purpose. The reason you do that at home is because of the expectations of the crowd. Tonight we had to do exactly the same, play like the home team and put the expectation on ourselves to produce another performance.
"On a night like tonight we said there will be a lot of 50-50s, a lot of headers and a lot of challenges all over the pitch and you have got to come out on top in that side of the game. I felt we did that and that enabled us to pass the ball. I thought our decisions when we were in possession were in the main very good. When you score a goal the next header, the next pass, the next tackle is so important. It spreads throughout the team if people do it right, and I thought we did it right tonight.”
"We are pleased with the last two games, we have got two clean sheets and after conceding seven goals in two games it was important that we got ourselves a base to win football matches."
"I'm pleased for Robbie Elliot tonight too because he put in what I thought was his most solid performance of the season.
"We said to the lads it's nice to be in the top six with no league game this weekend, but equally we've got to go into these next two cup games and continue our performance levels and if we do that give ourselves a good chance of progressing.”
"We spoke after the Carlisle game about how we took our feet off the pedal and allowed them back into the game. Today we put our foot on the pedal and played even better at 3-0 up and took even more control.”
I'm well pleased. Brighton does seem to have been the wake up call. Whatever happened I don't know but, all of a sudden we're gelling. This will breed confidence in the team. Like I said, well pleased. :)
Fantastic result - 8 goals in 3 games - things are starting to get very interesting. Strikers are scoring and JJ is starting to pop in a few, too.
Now, FA Cup, JPT and then Peterborough. Momentum is really important. What team will Parky choose for the cup games?
Just home from Wiltshire. Delighted to watch a very professional performance from the lads tonight. The wind was very, very strong and blowing straight down the pitch. We struggled when playing against it in the 1st half and Robbie had to make a couple of very good saves from Charlie Austin. When we did manage to clear our lines, however, we looked good all over the pitch. 2nd half, playing with the wind, was much easier and we totally controlled the game until we took our foot off the pedal in the last 10 minutes as we saw the game out.
Highlight was probably Robbie's 95 yard wind-assisted pass to Waggy to cross for Benson to head in the 3rd goal. I've never seen Robbie celebrate a goal so enthusiastically as he ran round his team mates accepting the plaudits for the assist! LOL.
All 11 players were excellent tonight, but MOTM has to be Joe Anyinsah. He chased everything and scared the life out of the Swindon defenders.
Swindon battled hard throughout, but we just had that extra touch of class in eveything we did. Parky shook the hand of every single player as they left the pitch and got some big hugs in return. As no substitutes were made tonight, I fully expect a few of tonight's team to be rested for the cup game on Saturday.

Good question, I'd give Doc/Dailly a rest and also Semedo, let's not waste resources on the JPT/FAC when the main focus should be on the League.
Not sure about resting Benson/Anyinsah, its good to let strikers carry on with their roll when they are on form.
First time I saw Ayinsah I thought he would be a good signing for us, looking to be the case! He got 10 goals for Carlisle last season so he's well on the way to beat that. Hopefully he can stay fit!
I'd maybe keep Benson for Barnet and Anyinsah for Southend so neither are playing two games in the next week and also giving them a chance to work with other strikers.

For the Barnet game, I'd agree with Semedo - I think McCormack needs to get up to speed again. Fortune would doubtlessly benefit from a run out. However, I'd like to see Abbot start, possibly with Apko against Barnet. Need to get people involved.
Judging after the Barnet game, I'd like to see us go for it against Southend.
[quote][cite]Posted By: incorruptible addick[/cite]Even with the Brighton debacle in the middle of it , we're not on a bad run. Five wins in our last eight league games, I think.[/quote]
The funny thing is that some people are saying that we have played far worse than we did against Brighton this season and WON (Notts County being the best example).
The Brighton game was just one of those days where nothing went right for us and everything went right for them just like tonight was the reverse of that against Swindon.
[cite]Posted By: chablis addick[/cite]What team will Parky choose for the cup games?
Mix it up and give the rest of the squad a chance to shine. Anyinsah clearly needs a rest. Unleash Akpo on Barnet. Abbott and Fortune need a chance to get match fit and sharp. Dont risk Reid. Give Worner a chance, I never understand why our managers dont give the reserve keeper a chance unless forced to by injury.
But what do I know. 3-0 away, that's all I know :-))))

Yes. I think Benson said that in his Standard column and used exactly that example.
I was desperate to go to this but couldn't because of uni.
Like many of you I was there in May to see those west country tw*ts just about get the better of us...
All I know is that revenge is a sweet motherlicker.

Long may it continue.
After the Brighton result we all thought the worst and now 3 wins on the spin, can't ask for much more.
Anyinsah is the massive difference with his pace too.
And I know what you mean, but don't know why :-)
Cracking result, what's not to like?
Anyinsah looks like an inspired signing.
Airman asked for two wins in six from Parky. He's got three in a row.

I wanted a minimum of 9 from Brighton to Yeovil so we should be quids in, we are also ahead of the game against equivalent games last season
who'd ever have thought that getting a new manager would be a such good idea though?
