  • Parky might go earlier than that if we get stuffed by Brighton at home on the 16th. It is Murreys' personal credit card that is holding the roof on at the moment.
  • Racon impressed me today. Everyone else didn't. Simon Francis was absolutley shocking, really, really bad. That's all I'll say on today. Depressing to talk about it.

[cite]Posted By: Bedsaddick[/cite]One more season could be fatal.

    Leave it out.
We are in this division for a reason, and it's not just because of one person (before you go there) it's plainly and simply coz we're shite

I agree we ARE shite. Who's to blame for that , the tea lady ?
Does anyone really expect us to progress when we sell off last season's best midfield player and captain...?

We're in survival mode in every sense of the word, be prepared to be disappointed...

    Tea Lady out...!!!
  • We are here for a while.

Rubbish players, awful chairman, rubbish manager.

    Cheers.

Always makes me lol thinking about when Pardew included her in the criticism of the team 2 seasons back.
  • Just got back. 45 minutes to get a shot on target. No passion, no guile, pump it up the middle and hope for the best. As an earlier poster remarked what the f**k do they do no the training ground all week. Complete and utter pony.. Reid is currently the only player at the club who can create anything.

    Rubbish players,

    Cheers.

    Thats better.
  • It would certainly be helpful if we could play for more than 45 minutes a game, but yet we could have still sneaked a point at the end.

Some 'spark' on the terrace in the first half, if not on the pitch, with supporters arguing/threatening each other depending on if they wanted to be supportive or boo.

And a page in the programme written by Andrew Mills, which made absolutely no mention of his time with us.

To those who are going to MK Dons on Tuesday - I salute you.

    3 foul throws,what's that about?

running out of scapegoats to blame for playing the most appalling football i've ever seen in my life.thankfully there was a high percentage of drunken fans who hopefully will not remember today's depressing performance.

i'm just grateful that brentford were really crap that we were only slightly embarrassed.

how poor was the game give me a bit of a summary
  • What a strange season this is turning out to be. One week, we're optimisitcally looking up the table. The next week we are nervously looking down it. If we had won today we would have gone third. As it is, we find ourselves only five points off a relegation place.

There's still no real indication of which way it will go. A good run of, say, eight points in four matches, would put us right up there. A bad run of three or four deafeats could put us in the relegation zone. Carry on as we are with a point and a half per match, and we end up probably a dozen points shy of the final play-off place. So who knows?

Even the fact that we are playing crap football probably isn't going to be decisive, because so, too, are most other teams in what is turning out to be that genuine rarity in the modern game - an 'anybody can beat anybody' league.

The sad truth is that we are no longer the division's big boys, a 'natural' premiership side going through a bad patch before we return to where we belong. We are currently a genuine div three side in every sense. Someone said last week that it was almost impossibly painful to watch MOTD now, because to see Luke Young, Konch, Darren Bent, Scott Parker, Murphy et al and compare them to their replacements four years on borders on mental cruelty. That's so true.

There are many reasons why we have fallen so far so fast. But I fear there is a lot in Mundell Fleming's post about the fundamental weakness of our central midfield.

I do not want to scapegoat two players in what is clearly a much wider and endemic failing. But you cannot help but notice that just about the only common factor in the last four years of decline has been the Racon/Semedo pairing in the middle of the park.

You keep thinking as we get progressively worse that they will find a level, at which they really boss the game. Yet it hasn't happened , has it? And even if the unthinkable occured and we end up in div four, I doubt now that it ever will...
  • soon the top two will pull away
  • I suspect that to pay off Parky would cost around £50k.

Whilst I appreciate the viewpoint that finding a replacement might prove tricky, i have also felt for some time now that it'd be hard to find someone who could do as badly as Parky has done.

When we took on Dowie we missed out on Billy Davies. When we took on Parky, we missed out on Davies again, plus the managers who went to the other relegation threatened sides that ended up clawing themselves out of it (Barnsley and one other I think) whilst we went down. The point here is there have always been capable managers out there - managers who've done better than Parky has done who might've come to us. Obviously Davies is now out of our reach but five of the seven sides currently above us have managers who have been in their jobs less time than Parky has been with us, so they must have been available at some stage. Sure we don't have much money but do we have that much less than Brighton, Peterborough, Rochdale, Bournemouth and Carlisle?

My feeling is that the board are not so much pleased with Parky but terrified of making another recruitment mistake.
  • i am always up for pulling away on a nice top 2

As TK stated 3 foul throws is a joke , how many players had robert lees old boots on and kept slipping over , if you don't laugh at these clowns you'd cry ..... It's comical watching us ....
No one and that inludes pardew and dowie could've got us in this poor a position .....
The slow motion car crash that is charlton athletic fooball club shows no sign of ending

I had a drunken fan near me who was. boooing it was most annoying but I can see their point
  • My brentford mate just text me to say that's the worst team he's seen there this year

  • Oh dear. I was struggling to think of a worst first half perforance than that. My son's first away game and he wanted to go home at half time. I can't say I wasn't tempted - I almost feel guilty for lumbering him with Charlton.

Nobody played well, but Francis looked so completely out of his league, it was embarassing. Skinned at will, almost totally unable to pass accurately and with no positional sense at all. What really depressed me was how easily we gave away possession and how rarely there seemed to be any passing option on the rare occasions that we did. I suspect, as others have said, that we need to look at out central midfield. Where are the runs? We are totally dependent on Reid skinning someone and getting a decent cross in. We never cut a side open by incisive passing in the centre.

Second half was better with Reid seeming to energise the team. But even he is too selfish/showboaty sometimes.
  • Have to agree with that, Jints.

I know the circus is in town ( Bexleyheath) so I suggest they come knocking if they need a new clown or two....Francis being the most likely...

Foul throws too. When did we see more than 1 of those in a match ? It really was very depressing this afternoon and like others on here, I have not been impressed with our midfield all season, whoever takes on the roles.

Something needs changing & fast . A long term away supporter, I'm even questioning whether to make the next trip .
  • Another goal for Waggy. 4 for him now.

    Just looking for a positive!
  • They scored one very fortunate goal and one brilliant goal. We were awful in the first half, and could have let in another goal. No one played well in the first half, apart from Doc. Parky did the right thing by taking off the frustrating (but skillful) Martin. Abbot then led the line very well and went close a few times and Reid was our star man down the left. Waggy hit an excellent goal but had a shite game. We actually deserved an equalizer and Akpo nearly scored but their goalie did a good save. Make no mistake, this team will be contenders this year but we haven't gelled into a machine yet. I like Francis but he was dire today, as was Benson again.

he could have had 2 but decided to knee the second for some reason
  • Right home now.

Benson showed yet again he offers nothing to the team, I know Still said get crosses in early but we don't do that and won't do that. He isn't a target man like Akpo or Abbott and doesn't have pace, an expensive mistake by Parky it's looking like.

Francis has been poor since he's been here, the sooner Solly is fit the better. He looks awkward, no pace, no crossing ability, no passing ability and gets beaten far too often.

Semedo again was poor, he really hasn't dominated a game this season.

Jackson as a left winger doesn't offer anything and I don't think him being in the centre of midfield will be effective.

As said by people in here, we lose the ball far too often and lack any creative guile to do anything. We need wingers who beat there man and cross the ball first time instead of cutting in all the time. Overlapping full backs (When is Youga back?) offering as another option then I think we'd start seeing more chances being created. There can only be so long we keep pumping up to Benson etc and losing it straight away before we realise it isn't the way forward.
  • Bad bad bad performance. A total waste of an afternoon getting out of the sickbed for this(I thought it would cheer me up, how wrong was I?)

Atrocious 1st half, all a disgrace. Credit to Brentford who really seemed up for it. 2nd half better, but really couldn't have got much worse. I couldn't understand why we reverted to up & unders to the strikers, after we had played some much better passing football, which eventually led to a goal.

Benson thought he was playing basketball, with a several completely unnecessary handballs, & ended up having needless arguments with Brentford defenders. Very surprised that he didn't see a card, & all in all, looking like he is a bit out of his depth at this level. £250k we couldn't really afford to burn, but sadly, it seems we may have.(My fingers are crossed that he does 'come up trumps' though)

Semedo looks shakey at the mo', Racon was a lot better than him, getting stuck in & covering on a fair few occasions, very impressed with his effort. I'd start with him & Jackson in the centre for the next game.

It comes down to creativity & an extreme lack of it, no discernable shape & organisation. Breaker was motion & emotionless on the touchline in PP's absence, Kinsella huffed & puffed, but they didn't seem to elicit any change in the performance after either of Brentfords goals. Parkinson is on a tightrope in my eyes, but I can't see Murray doing owt about it.

In this league we need to be tough & ruthless, at the moment we are just rough & toothless!
  • Didn't go today so can't really comment on that performance but from the other games this season I believe that some of the comments about Racon & Semedo are part way true however I think our biggest problem at the moment are our two full backs. They are absolute pony and give us nothing. Rarely get forward, very poor ditstribution, and crap defensively. Best games I've seen in the last year or so was when Richardson and/or Youga were involved. Both got forward offer an attacking part to their game and are solid defensively (for the most part). Sorry Francis & Jackson are average League 2 players. No reason that Solly shouldn't be playing with Francis as a back-up and Basey was a better player than Jackson and had potential to get better.

Was looking for the 4, from end to start... head shoulders knees and toes.

he didn't expect it to drop over so made a tool of himself and poorly kneed it.

fwiw it's getting embarassing to watch, i'm thinking the pubs a better option with soccer saturday on that watching any more of this.. the crowd couldn't do any more, but first half was the worst half of football i've seen any football side play, EVER.
  • Play waggy up front , he is a shite winger but somehow he has got 4 goals , so he's our most prolific shit player atm
If only akpo learnt to kick a ball properly the apologists could have waxed lyrical about how great a comeback we had against the mighty brentford ......

    Sad sad times
