[cite]Posted By: WSS[/cite]McLovin what about coming back with 9 men against Swindon? Holding on to a 1-0 with 10 men against Bournemouth on Saturday. The equaliser against Swindon away? The 1-1 against Yeovil when down to 10 men after 30 mins in atrocious conditions?

Would you expect any of that from Parkinson? Horses for courses.

The 9 men against Swindon game we were actually 1-0 up with 9 men then let it go. It was only down to an amazing goal by Llera. Is that down to Parky?
Yeovil we had the wind with us in the second half and should've won. Their keeper could barely kick it out of his area. And as for 'holding' on against Bournemouth - they were a shocking side so holding out was the least we should've done.
What about the 2-0 lead that we let go at Norwich, 2 points that ultimately cost us?

It's not just Parky, it's a management team ....that's why Breacker and Kinsella are there.
They'll each have their role to play, and maybe it's one of the others that does the principle 'motivator' role?

Wasn't parky part of pardews motivational management team ......
Oh no I forgot, he had nothing whatsoever to do with that load of old shite
  • Will you lot lot stop crying please ....

take a deep breath... we are 1 for 1 in the only competition that is of any relevance to us...
  • That's just taking the piss for the sake of taking the piss, Oohaah.

Kinsella told how Pardew always called the shots with his management team.
Apparently Pardew would ask for opinions and invariably do it his way regardless.

Whatever happened in Pardew's time is history now.

Anyway, I've not heard that Parky operates in such an egocentric and dominating way.
But it would be good to hear from somebody like Tim Breacker to talk about the day to day workings with the players.
  • Parky is quaity and he is gonna prove all you haters wrong this season, you watch....... with less budget, with supposedy less quality, he is gonna show you what its all about....

and finally, finally, we can all get happy.. we can all celebrate....

    We are Charlton Super Charlton!!

I never suggested that he couldn't organise a team to attack when behind. My issue was <clearly> that his teams, despite numerous personell changes, have always struggled to hold a lead.

    Different horse. Different course.

Sorry Oggy, but you're just dismissing his perfectly valid point based on a bit of hearsay because it doesn't fit into your world view.

Parky didn't leave the club when he was an assistant, which you'd think he would have done if he was unhappy/not being listened to. I'd also guess that neither of us would be consulted if any of Parky's underlings were unhappy with protocol at the club.

I have to say I think it's poor form to just close ones ears to debate and not actually take account of what others have to say, or be prepared to flex opinions based on new information and arguments. And that goes for all sides. Just trotting out a line regardless of fact makes opinion less valid rather more. That's why (most of us) accept that the earth isn't flat anymore, but would have laughed at any Genovan telling us otherwise a few hundred years back.

I also think it's quite likely that those that those who defend the current manager in the most ferverent terms will probably be the quickest to rubbish him whenever he's replaced. But there, I'm just guessing.

That's your best contribution to the debate so far.

I was actually trying to highlight a - recurring flaw in his performance, which is apparent to people that watch the team regularly. I don't recall suggesting a change of manager, but I'm sure you know best.

Isnt that exactly what oohahh was doing? How do we know the involvement Parkinson had in the Pardew regime.

I certainly don't see any similarities in terms of the players he has brought in, the way he speaks about players or the way he speaks to the fans.

    I don't know either way.
  • Im just bored s******** of the same arguments coming up again again ... I feel supporting the team is the best way forward... but feel free, crack on, slate the manager for making the sensible decision of resting a very elderly back line and playing inexperienced youth in a tournament that is irrelevent to us...

True we don't know either way but i'd be surprised that as assistant manager he had no input at all. If he felt he wasn't being listened to by Pardew and was just a spare part then surely he'd have gone to Huddersfield to be their manager?
  • When he was promised the job at our place after Pardew went? Again, I don't know if it's true.
  • Pardew was clueless it seemed about supply of goals, he just thought you bought a striker who had scored goals elsewhere and that was the answer..

Same as many of us are bored of the same/ new excuses that get brought out everytime Parkinson's team fails to meet our expectations mate.

As i said Ill wholehartedly support and get behind whoever is in charge but doesnt mean i have to think he is the right man just as it doesnt mean people shouldnt express a negative opinion of him on a internet forum when others are expressing positive ones.

According to F365 we never lost a game last season after scoring first. Third in the table behind Millwall (2.73) and Leeds (2.69) with an average of 2.66 points per game.

Scored first in 24 games, won 20 of them and drew 4. Only 1 of 3 teams in the league to not lose after scoring first.

    Havent checked that though.

    Not after last night no.

Where do you feel he fell down???
  • Okay, McLovin ..... some good reasoning there. But for what's it worth, I based my opinion on what I remember reading of Kinsella's comments - I wasn't actually at the training ground during Pardew's time, of course.

I'm not meaning to imply that the team's implosion under Pardew had no input from Parky, just like as part of any team you have to toe the line as dictated by your manager - same as in any line of business, not just football.

When I was Assistant Manager in a job I held a few years ago, I could voice my opinions but always my manager dictated what and how something would be done - and any disloyalty on my part would not have been tolerated.
I had many heated disagreements and sure I could have left, but that would only have cut off my nose to spite my face, because otherwise I quite enjoyed my work and the other people I was working with.

I 'assumed' from my recall of Kinsella's comments, that much the same dynamics seemed to have existed around Pardew's management team.

But that's not closing my ears to debate, or I wouldn't have made the effort to reply.

Well said. For whatever reason there are always going to be the Parky haters. Even if he gets the club promoted those same people will still say well he won't be any good in the Championship or some other line to avoid giving any praise whatsoever. As has been mentioned before this is his team now, no excuses this season and I will judge him on our performance in the league, why can't everyone else?
  • Are we back to get rid of Parkinson one and a half games into the new season?

    A) Where's the money.

    B) Where's the replacement.

    C) What happens when he wants to bring in his own staff/players.

    D) Thank you and goodnight.
  • Im with D....
  • I really think it's time to put this to bed until the end of the season and judge him then. It's his team now and whatever you may say about his budget it is still better than the majority of teams in this league and has allowed him to sign players of the quality of Jackson, Docherty, Dailly, Reid, Francis (?), Abbott, Martin, McCormack etc with a few more still to come. There are no excuses now. His players. Let's judge him on performances and results at the end of the season. Unless we are in the bottom three at Xmas, which we won't be, he is going nowhere so accept it for now. We can have an almighty tear up come next May if he ballses up.
  • agreed wholeheartedly... honestly Large ;-)

This season he's had a big helping from the board in his acquisitions, he had job security unlike last season's build-up and a full-season's crack at it unlike the season before.

Let's get behind him, not just one day a week but every day and get behind the boys because the situation is not going to change.
