  • Team spirit as well is amazing, never really seen a team spirit like that in quite a while, amount of times we got last minute winners or equalisers and anytime we got a man or men sent off, the players always put an extra shift in.
  • Cant afford anyone else anyways, but i think he'll do well this season.
  • Parky?

Honest pro, doesn't bullshit, great eye for a decent player, shrewd judge of character, able to do well on a shoestring ....even if miracles may take a little longer.

He's not going to please everyone all of the time, and some players may get frustrated if they're out of the team through loss of form or tactical reasons. But otherwise spirit in the camp seems good.

Parky's been blighted by being in the shadow of Pardew, and trying to revive a car crash of a team - with no money.
Last season he very nearly made a silk purse out of a sow's ear. 2 points extra or a penalty kick on target was needed - but then Parky didn't take that penalty.

He's putting together truly his own team now as others have said. Judge him on that.
But don't let blind prejudice get in the way.

He's in the mould of a 'proper' Charlton manager, and he's doing things the Charlton way.
    He's getting there. Back him.
  • and he plays max brannings brother Jack in eastenders in his spare time so how can he be concentrating on the football club
  • has he won a cup game yet?
  • [cite]Posted By: Scoham[/cite]His lqck of tactical knowledge is a bit exagerrated IMO. No worse than most managers at this level and probably some above. If you went through each game last season there'd be plenty of examples where he got it right, but mistakes stand out more just like they can with goalkeepers.

Oh I think many managers at that level might be able to hang onto a 3 nil lead against a low scoring lower league side.
  • He prefers mugs mate......

look at the all the whingers on here.. makes me cringe...

He can't be held responsible for 3 shocking individual errors
  • i think that was the boo boys fault
  • some one is always to blame----end of.

    its the boo boys
    its the swearers
    its parky
    Its Pardew
Its we want the league (which one would be re direction)
    Its Tory boy
    Its red wedge
    Its Livington

maybe its because we are the worst Cup team in England ?

  • dowie was unbeaten in this cup competition for us though before we sacked him
  • I think Parky was obviously holding down the wrong button on the controller when all those defenders in Red chose to make poor, ill-judged decisions
  • its goonerhater ;)

I imagine he'll gain some plaudits as a result of games won because of pieces of individual excellence, so I don't think it's at all inconsistent. The errors were made by players that he brought into the team operating in a system that he told them to play so it's not some completely unrealted event.

I do hope that the likes of Mambo and Solly don't get too much flack though. Lots of people reckoned Michael Turner wasn't up to it when he was with us, but he's gone on to do more than OK. Defenders will inevitably mature with age, so it'd be wrong to write Yado off for a poor pre-season and bad performance tonight.
  • Indeed he'll gain some, but not as many as Reid and Solly did on Saturday...

There is never going to be that balance, that's accepted but nobody can have it all their way
  • Mambo appears to have been at fault for the first goal and sliced the second into his own net.
Just a horrendous 5 or 6 minutes for the lad.

No amount of tactical planning can eliminate human error.
  • Parky's teams have been great at holding on to leads and not conceding late goals.

    Oh, wait ...
  • not with our second string defence...
  • The best chance we had of gaining promotion was with the players we had available last year.... We are a weaker side this season and will not get nearly as many points
The reason expectations were low b4 last seasons window was shut was because no one expected to hold onto our better players, once those players were still ours expectations/ hopes would have been for promotion
Just like 6 weeks ago mid table would have been our expectation/ hope for this season but seeing the quality of player parky has picked up a decent challenge for the play off is probably a realistic expectation/hope for this season
Although looking at the amount of clowns who have predicted a first/second place finish there are more delusional fruits than you think who support charlton

    .
  • the one worry for me is last night we were exposed on the counter from a corner against Swindon it was a freekick we have to be able to learn, teams seem to know that we are weak in those situations should we concede possesion of the ball.. we need to learn how to defend from that situation and so far it seems we have not
  • Mambo probably isn't ready yet to play regularly at League 2 level. Last year we got by for most of the year with just the three centre backs but had Basey, Youga and Semedo who could all do a job there but didn't have that luxury last night.
  • ignore last night, I am. However the jury is still out. As for being a good motivator, I think that is one of his big failings. Let's judge him at the end of the season though. It's his team now, no excuses, so let's see what he can do.

It's not just Parky, it's a management team ....that's why Breacker and Kinsella are there.
They'll each have their role to play, and maybe it's one of the others that does the principle 'motivator' role?

The excuses exist already...he has a much weaker squad, and a brand new one which take time to gel and no money to strengthen it which ultimately will require even greater management that last season hence our collective expectations are much lower.

The irony is that we have effectively started from scratch again and I think it would have been wise to get someone fresh in to do so after swindon and give him a few seasons to stabilise and then push on. Instead the irony is that it is only really fair to give parkinson a couple of seasons to get this team settled.
  • What was I saying yesterday?
[cite]Posted By: Mclovin[/cite]...his patented inviting-an-equaliser formation, initially perfected in the Cardiff home game...

Sorry, but it's been an ongoing feature. It started before Cardiff. Sheff U away in the cup was another example where we were ahead and dominating, went cautious and got done. There's several other examples where we just got away with it. Exeter and Stockport at home also jump to mind. I'm not demanding his head on a stick, but he makes the same mistake again and again and again, and I'm amazed the apologists don't seem to care. And it is his mistake. He puts the team out and calls the tactics. Individual errors and individual brilliance happens within this structure and he gets a share of responsibility for both.

I've heard a few murmurs that he has less capable players than last season. Probably true, but then he had the more capable players last year and failed to gain promotion. Ah but they weren't his players. OK, he's got his players this year.
    Ahhh, but they're less capable.

Oh well never mind it's a mickey mouse cup. Yeah, someone might eventually lose their job because of the lost revenue - or we might not be able to get in a player that we need (had we progressed a bit further) and fringe players won't get any match time, but hey-ho everything's fine. Everything is always fine. To suggest otherwise would be disloyal.
  • McLovin what about coming back with 9 men against Swindon? Holding on to a 1-0 with 10 men against Bournemouth on Saturday. The equaliser against Swindon away? The 1-1 against Yeovil when down to 10 men after 30 mins in atrocious conditions?

Would you expect any of that from Parkinson? Horses for courses.
  • The only game that has been by our best 11 and the only game that is of any relevance has been a victory... our strikers have scored 4 in 2 games and our "1 st" team have conceded zero even woth ten men...

I personally think motivation is Parkys strong point he has these players driving and pushing and fired up to the max... IMHO...

I would be happy with a 1-1 at Orient..

    and 2 more players in....
  • the home leg of the swindon play off game, millwall at home....
