Solid enough win, although it perhaps could and should have been more comfortable if we had made the pressure count in the first half.
Thought they were going to get a penalty as the challenge looked to be inside the area, and Semedo's red card looked harsh.
Think we can expect Reid to get closer attention in future games, which was what happened to Sam after his very bright start to last season and set us back a bit.
Interesting that the right back that he was up against was the same Lee Bradbury who used to play up front for Portsmouth and Man City!
Robbie made two good saves in the second half. One straight at him that he knocked away and the other when he dived full length to keep the ball out of the bottom corner.

CHARLTONBOURNEMOUTH
Possession - Charlton 50% Bournemouth 50%
Attempts on target - Charlton 3 Bournemouth 5
Attempts off target - Charlton 6 Bournemouth 7
Corners - Charlton 5 Bournemouth 4
bbcs view of the game, notice the shots on target nth london addick
no offense but attempts on goal was that the one shot and the endless hoofballs which our keep collected?? just becuase they are in the vague vacinity of the goal mouth does not make them shots on target
and serious did you actaully think you had one chance that you should have put away?? I dont remeber one, but maybe thats just me.
Unlike everyone else on here I think we were pretty dam poor, but this is due to us having so many new faces who have never played together before, some (lee martin) wont have trained or even meet the players until he drove to the stadium yesterday. I must say though you guys did disappoint me, I really expected a well organised unit, if this game was in maybe a months time, we'd have won that one by quite a margin. I was also shocked how much you guys cheated faining injurying and diving all over the shop, pretty disgusting
cherryred - when we say you looked poor, you have to remember that we were used to watching Prem football until recently. Then a couple of years in The Champ.
Last season was our only taste of League 1 football. So we are probably looking at you from a totally different perspective. You are comparing your team to League 2 possibly.
Anyway, I saw worse teams last season & wish you & your team well.

Fair points I think on all counts.
League 1 is effectively 2 divisions, last season it was the top 5 plus Southampton and the rest, it will probably be about the same this year, top 8 or so and the rest. You'll comfortably nestle somewhere in "the rest" as there is some absolute toilet in this division. I mean how did Walsall finish 10th last season, probably on balance the worst team I saw besides Stockport.
Elliot did his job, few dodgy kicks in the first half.
Solly did well but lets not go over the top, he wasn't up against much. I think some fans underestimated him, especially his character and just how determined he is. If he doesn't make it, it won't be down to a lack of effort or a bad attitude. Doherty and Dailly were solid, but again will be tested much more over the season. Jackson fairly well, be interesting to see where we use him over the season.
Wagstaff had an ok game but didn't notice him much. Few decent moments and helped out Solly. At the moment he is still some way off Lloyd Sam, who I wish people would stop comparing to Reid. Completely different types of winger and don't even play on the same side. Reid did very well in the first half, nice to see him get an assist. Second half he made some poor decisions, put in a few bad crosses and as said he got tired, all things Sam was slaughtered for last season. As AllLeftFoot said teams will be paying close attention to him, and hopefully he is capable of handling that and still effecting games.
Martin is probably the alternative to Wagstaff, although his best position is apparently on the left, but at least he is right footed. He did a few tricks but I'd like to see what he does from the start for a run of games before judging him. We might even use him with Abbott or Sodje.
McCormack showed what he is about, he battles, gets tackles in, just a solid League One player. There will be games when we should use him over Racon, and then other times Racon would be the better option. Semedo did ok, haven't seen the tackle again yet, but from what I saw both players went for it. Seemed harsh at the time but need to see it again.
Pleased for Sodje. We moan our strikers don't score enough, but including last season he has 7 goals, and most of his appearances are as a sub. He's not a clever or skillful player, but he always worries defenders and if we give him good service from out wide he'll score headers and tap ins. Abbott did well enough, more to come from him, and others said it's probably not the right partnership. Shame he never got a few chances to see what he can do, but I'm sure that'll come with games.
This team should get better, and Parky is hopefully still looking to sign at least 1 more player, a striker. We'll then near enough have 2 players for every position, and a handful of them are versatile players so we have a few ways of mixing things up.
I completely agree with covered end and isawleaburnscore. league 1 must be a large step down from a few seasons ago playin against some of the best teams in the world in the prem and you're right, i guess im looking at it from the perspective of a team just promoted.
the mere point im making is that the game as a whole was pretty even, we just needed a few more shots on goal to really make that second half count, thanks for the replies.
[cite]Posted By: southamptonaddick[/cite]CAFCAndy just one question. How can you have Solly MOM but score Reid higher?
Didn't know that was the rule? I expected reid to be brilliant and he was, but solly was a nice suprise package, when most thought he would be caught out yesterday.
Fair enough. Usually though the player who scores highest is MOM.

You're right, but we will never know how much the sending off effected the game.

This.
We did enough to deserve the points and showed enough to give grounds for cautious optimism when the new players setle in.
Having said that, it bothers me the way we seem to surrender the intiative in games that we are controlling.
We did it a lot last season, where we would gradually just peter out after we had gone ahead and allow teams to get back in a game they had no right to.
We need to develop a more ruthless streak when we are on top.
A better team than Bournemouth might have capitalised on our apparent lack of drive and end up snatching the points.
The game was dead at one point
Bournemouth looked like they wanted to play football, yet at times they just over hit the simple ball. First half was too easy, the start of the second hald was more of a fairly even contest and then the twat of a ref really made his mark. Take it from us the worst challenge of the match was by one of your lot in retaliation and Bradbury got away with a deliberate stamp. So I take your pens and say in response we should have had the eleven against your ten
Held our own but no real football was played would have liked to have seen Martin (blond one?) start. Bournemouth are new to the division though, will be interesting to see how we do against Orient.
For me we were totally comfortable throughout against a poor Bournemouth team, even with 10 men we were never in any real danger. We look like we can step into higher gears as the season progresses. McCormack was great and Reidy a real threat. A good result for confidence and bedding in new players.
Finally seen the sending off. Absolute nonsense decision. Oppo players got him sent off. Pretty sure we had Mr Hegley at Barnet and the bees fans sitting behind us were giving him some fearsome stick - now we know why. He was hopeless.
No appeal for me, it'll be chucked out and he'll get 4 games instead of 3.
firstly can I just ask why people seem to think it ok to have a dig at me because my opinion of a player is different to theirs? I don't quantify my posts with, for example, 'that'll annoy Blackheath Addick' or 'we know Oggy will disagree'. It's beginning to piss me off.
Anyway, my twopenneth. Solly was my MOM and I'm pleased for him. Was, and still is, under pressure with Francis arrival and I'm sure if Francis was fit he would have played but all Chris can do is play well and make it difficult for Parky to drop him. Reid was outstanding but faded second half and made some bad choices on the ball. Jackson ok but nothing spectacular. Dailly and Docherty were solid but Bournemouth offered little up front. They may have no pace but their positional play and know how more than compensates for that. Semedo solid as normal until the tackle of course. Don't think we'll appeal. McCormack was impressive, got forward a lot more than I thought he would and got stuck in. Complimented Semedo well and I prefer him over Racon. Waggy was the biggest disappointment of the day and, unlike Solly, did nothing to say 'I'm going to keep the newbie out the team'. Maybe that affected his game. Martin when he came on looked tricky and should be a big asset. I thought Abbott did well with little service. I would have kept him on and taken off Akpo as he is more mobile. Akpo did ok, nothing more for me, couldn't miss his goal and should have had at least one other. Can't fault his work rate but I just don't think he's got it, sorry.
Overall an ok performance and I feel we can do a lot, lot better. One effort on target in 90 minutes at home isn't really good enough but there were glimpses here and there of a team emerging and it'll take a few games for it begin to gel and for Parky to find the best combinations. All in all though a win is a win.
[cite]Posted By: CrayAddick[/cite]Loved the return of the Adams family song.
yeah, wasn't it great. Why don't we sing it more often. I really can't see why everyone in the ground can't join in. Why can't everyone get behind the team ? We need the players to know that the Bournemouth fans 'sister is their mother' etc etc. It will inspire them on to perform better I'm sure. C'mon let's all join in, I mean the words are pretty easy to remember if you are a effing imbecile. Eh Cray Addick.

Pretty much agree with all of that Large. Neither side troubled the keeper very much and, although I liked Abbot's movement and physical presence, I think think we are still looking for that stiker to play alongside him. Martin showed some nice touches but we'll have to wait to see if the lad can finish or not. Was suprised that Akpo stayed on in front of Abbot as he looked the more tired but, all in all, a tricky game out of the way and 3 points in the bag.
Went with my 8 yr old who has been vacillating all Summer as to whether he's an addick or a plastic scouser. The judicious purchase of a shirt for him and a reasonably entertaining win has put him back into the correct camp, at least for now.
Not much to add to what others have said. Solly outstanding and Reid really impressive. He's going to scare the hell out of defences this season and I love the way he cuts inside to make a quick cross to feet. I hope we can start launching counter-attacks more quickly - could be a rich source of goals. I suspect he's going to be double marked by many teams.
Wasn't particularly bowled over by Abbott save that it was nice to have a Charlton striker outmuscling centre backs for a change. Liked what I saw of Martin. Very quick feet and good at keeping the ball towards the ned with some nice interplay with Sodje.
Didn't like our having 11 men behind the ball in the last 10-15. Any clearance gives away possession immediately. However defence looked very solid against a weak cherry attack.

10 men :)
I would cock up my first substantive post on here.
