Sure I read in the programme that Basey and Nicky Weaver are great mates, Weaver spent some time in the SPL and apart from a 7-1 defeat against Rangers he did quite well. Maybe Weaver has recommended the SPL as a league where the standard is generally not much better than the Championship and where Basey can get regular football and a chance as said above to then get a move to the Old Firm and then into the Championship or maybe even the Prem. Also will give Basey a chance at getting back involved with the Wales set up.
[cite]Posted By: LargeAddick[/cite]CM where no-one of our excellant coaching staff have thought of trying him.
We've never needed to play him there though. We've always had better players. Semedo is better, Semedo and Basey would surely be too defensive. That and Youga has been out since November so Basey has always been needed at left back.
Semedo and Racon is hardly offensive, Semedo and Macca won't be either. So Basey IS needed at LB ;-)
No, but it's more offensive. Racon on form will run with the ball getting us up the pitch. We don't really know how Macca will be used yet, and he even scored 7/8 goals alongside an attacking midfielder in Bailey a few years ago.
We can't keep Basey around just so we have a left back for a few weeks. Youga is already training on his own isn't he? Jackson will probably play there until hopefully Youga is ready.

Come on now. Basey will never play in the Premier League. He'd have trouble catching even Ryan Giggs at full sprint.
Just wonder when Jackon is out Injured and Youga is still "a few weeks away at being fit" who we will bring in to cover them...........Borrowdale perhaps.
Of course, we don't need Basey as we had lots of choice at LB last season didn't we !
Basey may not be good enough to play in the Prem but he may well get the chance, there are far worse and slower players than him that have been there. He is not as slow as some think and although I do doubt whether he will ever be good enough, if he has a good spell in the SPL and maybe at and Old Firm side, it would not surprise me to see a High Championship side with Prem ambitions come in eg a Burnley, Boro type team.
A friend of my mum knows Basey's grandad personaly, and he told my mums friend that he only got offerd £800pw, so his looking for a new club apprently, Might not be true, just what i heard
Clearly Parky is looking to bring in another left sided player. Probably Reid. If that happens Basey has Youga and probably Jackson infront of him for left back. Jackson and Reid infront of him for Left wing.
Llera, Doc and Dailly all ahead of him for CB and Racon, McCormack and Semedo ahead in the middle.
He probably doesnt fancy that and in all honesty the budget will dictate that he will move on.

could be right we are skint like i said maybe he didnt fancy the offer..
is he worth more than that maybe but not much maybe a couple of hundred a week.
we dont have that much dosh to offer a potential 3rd choice CH.LB,CM
I would like Basey to stay & if he was offered £800 per week, I don't think that is too shabby, considering we are skint & he is unlikely to play many games, barring injury disasters.
Large & Golf as per usual are talking IMO complete rot, although they are entitled to their opinions.
On the preference for youth players :- you could argue (very harshly) that playing Solly last season cost us promotion, as we definitely lost points in games he played, that Richardson would have played better in. (I know we could come up with dozens of reasons).
Stav is definitely not better than Semedo, Racon, Jackson etc - so will not be playing CM as a first choice.
If teams played youth players in preference to their best players, we'd be watching the youth team play each week.
I suppose you'd expect Man U to play their youth in front of Rooney & Giggs et al.

Obviously you can't allow for a freak number of injuries in the same position. In the rare (yes i know it happened last season) eventuality of both left backs being injured then we'd get someone in on loan. A club in our financial plight can't afford to be paying a 3rd choice left back to sit in the west stand.
So when the manager picks the former he's sensible but when he picks the latter he's an idiot.
Easy for us as we don't have to worry about budgets etc Parky does. He has to pick the 20 or so players he can afford. Maybe not giving basey much means a bit more for a striker..

[quote][cite]Posted By: mart77[/cite]I don't know if its anything to do with Basey's departure but I've seen rumours that we've signed Danny Butterfield.[/quote]
[cite]Posted By: Henry Irving[/cite]nothing against butterfield but would rather we went with Fortune who can cover RB and allow Dailly to do the same.
Still never believe a palace fan.
I still can't remember Fortune ever playing at right back. Really not convinced he ever did!
To me Basey was only ever going to be a fringe player in the forseable future, so in the current economic climate a luxury we cannot afford. If he was good enough a reasonable contract offer would be on the table disregarding being a home grown product or not.

No one is doubting this, but when the same player can be back-up at CB, LB and LM for one set of wages and has proved to be solid at this level, we can cut costs else where.

i say he is quailty because every game he played he showed he loves us and tahts all we ask
but it aint like we have lost Semedo (Yet)
