[cite]Posted By: Stebo[/cite]not fussed if Basey leaves. i mean he's not overly good at being a left-back, too slow to be a left midfielder. he wants to be a CB and that may have suited him, but looks like we going to have that position covered.
If Youga can get fit and we use the money saved from Baseys contract on Reid then this will not be a great loss, although I think Basey remains a good prospect in 2 maybe even 3 positions, we cannot afford to have players like Basey at the club if they are not going to be playing. Youga with Jackson as emergency cover are more than capable at this level whilst in the worst case scenario there is always the dreaded loan market if Youga gets another long term injury.
A big mistake IMHO - not because he is an outstanding player, but mainly because he is home grown and has an affinity with the club.
I can't beeiuve he is anywhere near being a high wage earner and although he is not quick he isn't as slow as some make out.
As for being 2nd or 3rd choice behinbg jackson & Youga........Jackson would be my 1st choice lb, but as for Youga.............anyoine seen him around????????? No, Funny that 'cause I'm sure I sure Grant Basey play the 2nd half at Welling on tues !!!!!!!!!!
PS - he also hasa good left foot & can put in a decent cross - probably one of the best dead ball merchants we have.
Ho hum...............lets clear out all the young, Charlton bred players (Shelvey, Randolph, Basey & Sam) and replace them with jouneyman players and loanees - as its been a complete success over the last few years, hasn't it !!!!!!!!!!!

but you always have players who are not playing, at least eleven if not more of them. Perhaps Llera should go too as he won't be playing. I'd have actually thought keeping Basey would be better because he can cover various positions. I'd rather see a Basey/Jackson combo down the left than a Jackson/Reid one.
Agree I would like him to stay and we do need solid and good back ups but I don't think the club can afford to have Basey, Youga, Jackson and Reid plus Llera as possible options down the left hand side. If Youga or Llera were to be sold, then Basey would be worth keeping but to me, the fact the club have not secured Basey yet tells me he is not such a priority with the finances they way they are.

Chill the feck down golfie like i said earlier maybe Grant didnt want to sign for us have you thought about that..
Grant is quailty is he going to get noticed more at Charlton or playing in scotland only him and his agent know.
People are trying to get our club on a steady footing i know taht and so should you,
maybe just maybe this is not the clubs fault but we cant match the offer so he goes were skint remember
[cite]Posted By: Henry Irving[/cite]So we should stick with Tuna and Perkins then regardless as they are youth players.
neither are good enough, yet. Basey, Stav and Solly are. Only one, Solly, may start against Bournemouth but I wouldn't put it past Parky to bring in someone else ahead of him before then. VG - what is the point eh ?

Youga is back in training and when he is fit we'd be paying Basey to sit in the stands. Chill out a bit.

Are you a VG member? If you feel that strongly then don't join it in future!
Basey is good enough for league one yes, but when Jackson and Youga are both fit, he won't be good enough to get into our team. Basey is an ok player but if he wasn't a home grown player i doubt you'd give a sh*t.
I'd far prefer getting shot of the high earners and players who play 5/6 games a year, have a smaller squad but with, hopefully, strikers who can actually do what they are paid for.
Totally sick of reading about all these supposed superstars that we have!
Too many of our 'born and bred' products get the Range Rover Sport and think they've made it.
Large, i cant believe you would rather Basey/Jackson than Jackson/Reid???!!!....you obviously rate Grant but if you wanna see Charlton & PP try and take the game to teams, especially at the Valley, he's gotta go for the latter pairing.
Two words used on this page to describe Basey, quality and outstanding. Really? I must have been watching someone else, don't get me wrong I think he is decent but I wouldn't be using those words to describe him (there are very few in our sqaud that could be described with those).
Are people more emotionally attached to someone who has come through the ranks than someone who is of the same ability but has been signed elsewhere? I'm certain people here would not be that fussed if this was someone we signed a couple of seasons ago on a free and who was at best 2nd choice left back when everyone is fit.

1) I am VG and have been since inception since you ask. I just rang the Club to cancel it but the lady I want goes home at 2.30pm so I'll ring again Monday. Happy ?
2) When Jackson and Youga are both fit one of them won't get in our team either. So what? My disappointment with Basey is nothing to do with him being home grown it's to do with the fact that he's a decent player who can cover numerous positions. It also disappoints me that some of our so called coaching staff have never thought to try him in CM which is where he could nail down a position for us. It wll be interesting to see what progress Solly and Stav make in our 1st team this season, if any.
Really odd to let him go, doesn't matter if he's asking for a bit more than last year, he could play LB, LM, CM and CB if needed so we can save money by having a smaller squad. He's not an outstanding player but he's solid for this level and seems the only set piece threat we have.

I agree they are the 3 closest to the first team, along with Wagstaff. Don't see why any should be starting though just because they're youth team products.
There isn't a position where I'd have Basey as first choice, if he ends up staying would you really want him to start if everyone was fit?
Stav still has a lot to prove, don't see how anyone can say he's definitely League One standard yet. Needs games but he's rightly behind Semedo as the defensive midfielder.
Solly is promising but Richardson was clearly better and if Parky can bring someone in more experienced and reliable should he not do that? I'd like to see him get a run but we could potentially sign a better player.

well, of course I like Reid, but he has one position and that is LM, can't really hack it at RM. Basey on the other hand can cover LB, LM, CH and, imo, CM where no-one of our excellant coaching staff have thought of trying him. Basey of course hasn't the pace of Reid but has a sweet left foot, delivers a good dead ball and takes a decent free-kick. Long term he is also captain material. At Welling the other night he was talking all the time to the other players, telling them who was available for the ball, who was being closed down, encouraging the triallists and youngsters if they lost the ball or made a mistake. Compare that to Forch who never opened his gob once. Basey also reads the game well and has a footballing brain. It just frustrates me that people are so accepting of mediocrity like Sodje, Mooney, Macca, Racon etc because we have signed them but are dismissive of the likes of Basey and Stavrinou and percieve them not to be good enough. A few posters here question whether we stand up for Basey etc because they are home grown but to me it seems to work the other way in practice. If Mooney was one of our own those who like him would be slating him as not good enough.
would love to have been invited to the games where Basey played in these array of positions. Just because he has the supposed attributes of being able to play in CM & CB, doesnt mean he wont get slaughtered there in L1.
I like grant and think he is a good squad player (plus I went school with him so there's a personal connection too) but the only reason I'd keep him is to keep a connection with the fans. At centre back I'd rather we resigned dailly, at left back I'd prefer Jackson, on the wing I'd prefer Reid. Him in centre midfield is a miff to me, but id rather two out of Semedo/Racon/McCormack/Stav (though as ive said elsewhere, im not convinced he'll cut it for us). Grant's kinda like our Phil Neville, useful guy to have to fill in and have around the place but never gonna make a shirt his own.
Basey's better than average cover for those positions but would never be first choice, and as the budget is tight I'd rather those I listed above.
Listening to Choices Video he was saying all the right things
If he wanted to stay all he had to say was whats on offer..
Yes please where do i sign.
Maybe just maybe he thought i have been here ages the club is not what i thought it was, i can play at the top league in Scotland and really shine then you never know Celtic or Rangers may come for me and then i can get back to the Prem.
Alternativly i could stay at Charlton get noticed by a championship club and float about there for a few seasons
[cite]Posted By: LargeAddick[/cite]CM where no-one of our excellant coaching staff have thought of trying him.
We've never needed to play him there though. We've always had better players. Semedo is better, Semedo and Basey would surely be too defensive. That and Youga has been out since November so Basey has always been needed at left back.

Semedo and Racon is hardly offensive, Semedo and Macca won't be either. So Basey IS needed at LB ;-)
I'd give him another year , but there is no doubt in my mind Jackson's arrival and especially if that is suplemented by Reid push him down the pecking order.
Grant seems to be in competition at Aberdeen. The below is fromn Sky
They won't want two left backs will they ?
Aberdeen have taken six players on trial as they look at prospective new signings.
Former Charlton defender Grant Basey, ex-Southampton man Yoann Folly, Pakistan international Adnan Ahmed, former Bolton man Jeff Smith, ex-Huddersfield defender Robbie Williams and midfielder Conor Okus have linked-up with Aberdeen for pre-season training.
Basey and Williams are both left-backs and boss Mark McGhee has made a new full-back one of his top priorities after losing Charlie Mulgrew to Celtic earlier this summer.
The six players are all free agents and are looking for new clubs this summer.
All six are set to feature for Aberdeen in this weekend's pre-season friendly with Fraserburgh so McGhee can cast an eye over them.
If the players impress during the clash McGhee could decide to offer them a deal at Pittodrie.

He takes a half decent dead ball.
I'm far more worried about our lack of centre forwards who can stick the ball in the back of the net!
You have been demanding new strikers but now want to play the youth.
So we should stick with Tuna and Perkins then regardless as they are youth players.
I always want to see our kids do well but preferred D. Bent to K. Lisbie.
