I'm sure it was Gary Doherty I signed for Charlton on Championship Manager 00/01 or 01/02, could play as a centre back or striker back then which was useful. Probably hasn't played as a striker in a long time.
I think he still gets used upfront. Never for the whole game mind. If Norwich are losing with 80 minutes on the clock he gets sent up to join the forwards.
Scored a few goals last season from set pieces, sure he got a brace against Yeovil for a start.
I am not a fan of Doherty, but like many I was underwelmed with the Dailly signing lat year and he turned our brilliantly so Doherty could be this years Dailly. Also we are not going to do much better and his experience is welcomed. Also prefer Doherty to Llera.
Would now like somebody like Chilvers or Fortune to add some mobility there and mean that Llera will be confined to the bench.
[cite]Posted By: Exiled_Addick[/cite]I could be wrong, but I think he may even have played up front for Ireland as an alternative to Quinn, back in the day.
I believe he started as a stiker at Luton and was signed by Spurs as a forward. It was during his time at WHL that he converted to a centre back where he has played most of his career.

I could never understand that. When it came to our players, they were seen as too good for League One (very few cases that's actually true as we've seen). Yet a former Scotland international who played at Premier League level for much of his career didn't seem like a good signing. I remember people saying West Ham fans said he's not very good, but there's such a big difference between the Prem and League One.
Never rated Doherty but last season he looked superb against us. Not the paciest but aerially we will be stronger and he definitely poses an attacking threat
when we lost 2-4 at home to Spurs in the Cup at The Valley - midweek game - he came on as sub and changed the game.
we went 2-0 up in the 2nd half and Spurs were chanting for George Graham to quit.
He played a blinder and next thing you know, we were 2-4 down.

Good work Parky - keep it up
Could/should be a few more on board by the end of the week.
Be great to see Jackson, Reid, Chilvers and Doherty on the OS in the new kit!

Looked decent in the two times Norwich played at SMS last season, scored a good goal too.
