So, what would be the model for this in terms of raising money?
Pay to play, with each player getting a half or so? Then others who don't want to/can't play can submit donations? Maybe have a target figure and use make a webpage to collect the funds? Spectators too? Would spectators mean we need some kind of "security"? Music in the background. Can there be an afterparty type affair?
im well up for it!ive got life insurance. i will probably ake like f**k in the morning after tho!
carter is a good manager if you need one ive played for him.Just a couple of his methods include:
Warm ups. tuh! warmups are for wimps and old ladies!
Downing beer out of the dog bowl for making the biggest howler.
Man of the match gets free beer.
Im up for this........ but am quite unfit.... used to play at school was a nifty left winger/midfielder... but the last game I played wasa couple of years back and was walking like I had a pole up my arse for two days after due to the strains... but to play on the valley turf, Im in...........
I could actually use this to get fit...
I once got 8 out of ten for my diving headers from rob lee at one of those Junior reds thingys...
Some possible ideas for fund raising if this was to go-ahead,a raffle with prizes donated by the club, signed shirt or ball presented by vets member to winner, small size basic programme which would include adverts at reasonable cost, local charity/hospice,half time penalty shoot out with vets member, person taking pens pays a donation, cue sir henrys boy! SIGNED Valley floyd road cd,i could donate some cd's or vinyl i have loads.Maybe Paddy Power would contribute in some way, pretty charitable sort of company and i'm sure a few peeps would want to get a wager on the 1st goal to be scored by a charlton lifer. Bucket collection with nominated charity last home game.If it was presented to the club in a proper and professional manner then i think it would be a sound proposition, the idea is not who wins the game but to raise the money for charity. I'm sure there are plenty of other ideas which other members would put forward, this could really work and also bring Charlton life to a new level.
I'm sorry but with respect I would not ref this lot for £100. Half of them don't know the laws of the game and the other half think they know it better than everyone else - a bit like most sunday footballers actually.
Yes Polo I can play- the reason I went into refereeing was some of the refs my works team were getting in our league were so bad I thought I could do better than that. Also I am not getting any younger so good way of keeping fit if I am not playing regularly.
Good idea, I'd be up for doing something, 10 mins on pitch or something, cutting up those orange segments, cos you need someone with experience for that :0) or just genearlly shouting a bit of abuse and all round heckling as encouragement :)
I'm up for it, played last year there, great experience.
It made a huge difference that we had a proper ref and linesmen, not saying anyone qualified here wouldn't be great but too but surely they would want to play and not worry about anything else? It wouldn't be too expensive I doubt and would add to the authenticity of it all, and reduce any argueing, it's all well and good saying we would keep it friendly now but red mist and all that.......
I'm sure you wouldn't need to resort to having people playing and officiating. If enough people want to play then those here who are qualified refs would probably be happy to officiate, I know I would. You may think it odd but those of us who ref don't always see officiating as being a step down from actually playing, officiating is a discipline of its own, it's not always a case of 'would rather play than ref'.
Anyway if we don't get enough volunteers from these I'm sure I could find a couple of pals to do the game, all qualified.
Comments
Maybe we could invite the players to come along and shout at us!
Once both of us have had our cartilages finally removed!!
He used to be a decent player and one of his sons plays for our academy. I hope he puts together a NA team.

I'd love to be involved, but playing is quite simply beyond the capabilities of my body nowadays. Happy to help out where I can though....

Dont people who cant play go into reffing?

Not sure about that, Polo, but I'll throw my hat in the ring for reffing - being verbally abused by Bright and Foley gives you the taste!!!!
Just a bit of friendly banter like
Maybe we could invite the players to come along and shout at us![/quote]
Invite the ones that played at Forest please....*loads shotgun*
Make sure you let ooohaaaahmortimer know.
I'll chuck in £50 for Demelza if he plays in goal.
