[cite]Posted By: ValleyGary[/cite]hmmm, i agree that he lost his way towards the latter part of the season, but the first 2/3 of this campaign he was one of our most important and best players, so lets not forget that.
I know people are naturally sceptical about the STATBANK stuff, but historically its going to prove a good guide for assessing players performances.
I've listed Bailey's rankings in comparison to the others for each particular game, and where his goals come from. According to the stats, he had a pretty unimpressive beginning of the season despite scoring 4 goals in the opening 9 games.
It was in the middle part of the season Bailey shined, registering 7 MoM performances within 11 matches.
Now it may well be that Bailey held a consistent performance level throughout the season and others who had began impressively dropped during the middle part, but i think there is an element of truth in both aspects. Nicky is pretty much a solid trier, and a noticeable big tackle or goal can noticeably raise his marks, as much as a couple of noteable misplaced passes (which he is equally as prone to), can lower it:

I feel views are being a little skewed by the fact Semedo had such an exceptional end to the season and Bailey such a poor one.
How about this for a run of mom's on the statbank:
H - MK Dons – BAILEY (8.71)
A - Yeovil - BAILEY (8.29)
H - Bristol R - BAILEY (7.93)
A - Brighton - S SODJE / BURTON (7.44)
H - Southend - BURTON (7.60)
A - Stockport - S SODJE (7.79)
H - Millwall - BURTON (7.22)
H - Swindon - BAILEY (8.70)
A - Brentford - BAILEY (8.00)
A - Wycombe - BAILEY (7.86)
H - Hartlepool - BAILEY (6.71)
The guy's got it in him. I was at Brentford away and he was our best player by an absolute mile (his passing was excellent too). If the question had been asked around that sort of time then I think there would be a few more that would be 'disheartened' by him potentially leaving. Let's not forget that Semedo also had a poor run and was even dropped from the team at one point.
Bailey is a quality player and I'll be sad to see him go.
EDIT: Sorry for repeating some of the above, I was typing it out as AFKA posted

The hotel was circular. Was working and living in Basingstoke at the time. It was a long drive.
I think it was a mistake to make him captain - he spent too much of the game moaning to refs - and i think he was carrying an injury for much of the season. If not he lost fitness.

Might well have not helped him at all. We also saw him try to take control of a game, and then fail, being over amibitious with his passing. Do get the feeling he perhaps felt he had to try and step up and push us on, when last season he'd have been a bit more relaxed and didn't try to do too much.
goals win you games -bailey scores goals
for all semedo's midfield defensive ability he will never ever win you a game , he may save a game but never win a game
I wouldn't mind Bailey at Millwall. Not sure he's Kenny Jacketts sort of player though. Plus, i've heard he's a whinging, diving sod. I don't know how that would go down.
I rate him. Just not sure where he'd fit in with us.
Ive said it before i think our main aim is to keep jose. If bailey goes and jose stays so be it. Ill take that. We probably will miss bailey but i think he could be replaced. I dont know who by but i think he could.
Bailey tends to go missing in the big games. Millwall home & away. There the games your skipper should be getting hold of and controlling but bailey hasnt done that. Jose has been different class and hopefully continues to improve while playing for us.

How desperate are Charlton for the money?
Who else do you have in midfield? I know you've signed Trotter who i think will be a great player but who else is there? I'm pretty sure Bailey would improve your team.

You mean Millwall at home when he scored a 25 yard volley into the top corner?
Millwall away - the whole team went missing.
The problem with Bailey this season was taht he only scored 2 goals in 2010. For me, his best assest is that he scores goals - willing as he is, the rest of his game is not of that high a standard, imo. When he's scoring goals he's justifying his place, but when he's not I don't think he brings as much to the table as others in our squad. Just my opinion of course.
I don't think we'll miss him that badly as long as Parky does the right things. If we get a pair of strikers who will score 30 to 40 goals between them then Bailey can be replaced by a more creative player who will chip in with 5 to 10 goals (Reid perhaps?) rather than us needing to make a midfielder carry the main burden for goalscoring. I still believe Racon can be that man in a partnership with Semedo, but he needs to be encouraged to play further forwards rather than acting as a secondary anchor man along side Semedo.
Yea i mean millwall at home where he scored a 25 yarder and what a goal it was aswell. As a centre midfield skipper im afraid a 25 yard goal isnt enough against your local rivals. Remember how scotty parker used to put his body on the line for the team and go from box to box. Bailey had the chance to take that game by the scruff of the neck and he didnt. He went missing as he has done a fair few times in crunch games. Im not blaming bailey for millwall home or away but i certainly would expect a bit of passion & fight against the locals from our captain.
As i say dont get me wrong i like bailey and wont like to see him go but jose is more important to keep imo.
I wondered how long it would be before the Semedo gang were on this thread saying how much more important he is than Bailey.
If that's the case why is Bailey considered our only decent asset? Especially if goal scoring midfielders are so easy to come across? (quote Swisdom on Rumours thread).
Semedo's OK at this level and has had a handfull of good games but he'll never be on anyone's 'wanted' list.

You make it sound so easy!
Where are we getting a 40 goal a season strike pairing from for starters?
Bailey will be a big loss but if losing him means keeping 2 or 3 others then its a deal worth doing. Him leaving will mean getting in a decent striker is even more of a priority!
Jimmy Abdou and Liam Trotter are our central players. Jackett likes his central midfielders to be hard working, and for the wingers to be creative. Not arguing that Bailey isn't a good player, but his best position is in centre mid. I'm pretty sure KJ wouldn't disrupt what he sees as a solid midfield unit to accomodate Bailey. And there's no point bringing in a player to play him out of position on the left.
Like I say, good player. But i dont think he suits Jacketts style.
Anyway, he'd never come to us. And it would be massively unlikely that we'd make a bid for him anyway.
[cite]Posted By: Plaaayer[/cite]Have you signed Trotter? I thought he'd signed a new contract at Ipswich or am I confusing him with someone else?
Yep. And i'm still not quite sure what sort of player he's supposed to be. He does a lot of hardwork, but can also pick out the occasional pass. That said since he's been here, we've lost two games and he's bought the best out of Abdou, so who am I to argue?
If we didn't have either Abdou or Trotter, i'd like to see Bailey in our squad. But what we've got works, and hopefully will work in the CCC (...or whatever it's called next season). Bailey, for me, is someone you build a team around - not buy as an extra option. I think someone like Semedo would suit Jackett more than Bailey.
We've just released Ali Fuseini. Ran the game against you at the Valley. Can't understand why we're getting rid because i really rate him. Charlton could do a lot worse than take him on.

It will be difficult to replace him when we have no transfer kitty.
Unfortunately I don't think his sale would raise enough to buy either nor release enough wages but I hope I am wrong.
In conjunction with Moo2's departure it might says he trying to be optimistic....
Both Jackson and Reid can score from midfield but we need more goals from the forwards who ever they are to be.
Read somewhere that Southampton and Norwich are interested according to SSN. Anyone else seem this? ; - )
Thanks. Someone should have posted that up here : - )
Seriously, it does make me think that either Charlton or his agent (or both) are trying to generate more interest in him.
Like I say, good player. But i dont think he suits Jacketts style.
