Lads we know from the England scene are Rochdale and are putting us up in some boozer for free, so we will be staying over. Not expecting the most classy night out I have ever had :) Looking forward to it though.
Anyone know the likely allocation? Rochdale lad seems to reckon we will get as many as we want, up to 4k, which i said will def not be a problem!!
Slightly off topic but got my train tickets to Carlisle booked for £50 return last night via www.raileasy.co.uk which I thought was a bit of a bargain, good times as well to and from Euston on Virgin trains. Only takes just over 3 hours as well.
Having an ankle arthroscopy with microfracturing on the 25 th Nov, up to six weeks avoiding weight bearing on my foot without having it in plaster. Don't think I'll be going now. :-(
Supporters getting all excited about going to ....... Rochdale.
Went to Spotland enough times in the 1970s, twice to watch Charlton there - but also I was seeing a bird from Rochdale and used to go with her Dad to a few games when I was up there.
It used to be a case of spot the crowd at Spotland. And the oldest joke in football:
Bloke rings the ground, "What time's kick-off?"
The one and only member of admin staff would reply, "What time can you come?",
Proper football club, with real supporters. Buy your ticket.
It'll be a great day out.
The only time I frequented Spotland was around 1978 for a 3-0 victory to our lot. The pitch was a proper mudheap and half-time the most laid back taking of an end occurred when the Barnsley supporters just strolled across the pitch. We probably had aound 2,000 fans there that day, and the attendance was around the 3,000 mark. Strangely enough; we were in the top four of the old Fourth Division when they came to Oakwell and they beat us 3-0 in front of the cameras (which were showing the match the next day on local tv). I can still hear John Helm chatting away to the backdrop of "You can shove yer effin cameras up yer arse!" Back in those days Barnsley rarely appeared on television.
I've always had an urge to go to Spotland since we played up there in (I think) 1973 on a Tuesday afternoon during the three day week - the days of doing homework by candlelight. The crowd was something like 820.
One of my best mates used to live in Littleborough, which is just outside Rochdale. I went to see him in the late 70s but The Dale were away that day and we hopped on a train to Manchester to watch a poor United side lose at home. There were lots of coaches going from Rochdale to United, which must be a little galling. Mind you, my dad told me that, in the late 50s and very early 60s, special football buses used to go to White Hart Lane from Peckham - it must have been an altogether more innocent age, as a few years later, Micky Purser, the ex-Millwall chairman, was getting his car showrooms in the Old Kent Road regularly bricked after home defeats !
Rochdale will be a new ground for all the vast majority of Charlton supporters, so hopefully take 4 - 500, even allowing for the December date. The Cemetery Hotel gets a decent write up on the beer front an is just over a mile from the ground.

I think you can double that figure. Rochdale has long been a ground I've wanted to visit and I know that Golfie's 6 seater blue bus is already fully booked. As for the Cemetery Hotel - sounds a scream.
anyone heading up from the south-west? if so, give me a shout, hoping to get one of those group ticket things as i cannot afford a 50quid return sadly!
Clap clap. Must buy match tickets. Finally got rid of the two spare train tickets I had.... Rothko has pointed out long term forecast its going to be minus -2!
Have not been on a long away day for ages even tho i am stuck going with men i am soooooooo excited.
