[cite]Posted By: queensland_addick[/cite]One thing's for sure, we would never have scored that second goal. Their defenders would have caught our forwards and put a tackle in.
That in itself is the main reason why we pose such little threat when pushing forward, no pace. I'd put McKenzie on the bench on Monday rather than Dickson
Is McKenzie fit? If so I'd agree with that but I thought he was injured.
If we had taken a lead in the tie going to the valley I would be more confident, but then also confiedent that we'd probably sit back.
Have to go out to win, their defence didn't look much better than ours, Reid on the left and Sam on the right would be good.
Everyone doesn't understand that Sam gets doubled up now when he plays, playing Reid on the left will create more space for both our wingers, and if Bailey can beat their right back with his wrong foot, Reid will have alot more joy on Monday
I dunno if we can blame it all on the lack of roof, noone really seemed to be up for it yesterday. I was right on the far side and tried to echo a few of the chants we could hear near the drummer but was greeted with silence from those around me. Everyone seemed to be standing though which made a nice change.
[quote][cite]Posted By: CrayAddick[/cite]He get double man marked aswell and hebcant handle of it.[/quote]
It's a point well made.
Dailly & Randolph kept us in it in the first 20. Mooney won us some free kicks in promising positions (they were wasted). We had a load of possession and rode our luck with the chances Swindon missed.
I thought the Swindon support did their team proud - all 3 sides singing. Shame they didn't give us a roof.
I'd put Reid in, move Bailey into Racon's place and involve Foster at the start. Also, remove the roof from the West stand temporarily. BTW, the blokes Scoham's mate was talking to were my mates I sit with in the upper North, one of them took time off from watching David James being used for target practice to ring up for a chat just now.None of them post on here, but they all keep an eye on the forum.
Agree with a post above, there wasn't much singing last night, i was at the far side from the entrance/exit (nearest the Don Rogers Stand). I could hear the faint sound of a drum over the other side and joined in singing whenever i heard a song but seemed like i was one of only a few over that side of the stand to be making any noise. Still at least it didn't rain. Plus i think Deon's goal could prove to be so so crucial, i think we'll win it....may take extra time but we'll do it.
Just feel like most of our fans feel like there is no point in singing when theres no roof, and it is tough to get a loud song going than can be heard by the oppo
[cite]Posted By: rocking robin[/cite]It all depends who scores first on monday , I mentioned on a previous thread about how similar you and forest are . Their first leg finished 2 . 1 as well .
It's been like that for a while for us. If Bailey's shot had gone in it could have been very different.
I was stood right over on the side of the stand and could not hear the songs being sung by the Charlton fans in the middle only 20 yards away from me because of the lack of a roof, it's hard to create any atmosphere when it is like that, but certainly the people around me kept trying. The Swindon fans would have been almost silent but for their clappy things so lets hope we keep them quiet for the home game!
After about 30mins I thought to myself that i would take a 0-1 defeat because Swindon were absolutely dominating. The defence was abysmal - it looked like Swindon had 12 men on the pitch the first 40 minutes and the entire defence was incapable of picking up their players, thank goodness Billy Paynter wasn't playing given so many free headers!
Couldn't really see Swindon's first, but the second I was screaming at Racon to pull that bloke down, there was an obvious break on, just foul him and take your yellow card man, thought Racon was awful all game in fact - he shows such class at times but never actually gets anywhere - 1 goal all season and i can't remember any assists - he needs someone to tell him that ultimately football is about scoring goals!
Mooney is embarrassing, he spends most of the time throwing himself to the ground looking at the ref, all it achieves is slowing the game up and we are hopeless at set pieces anyway so I would rather he stayed on his feet and went for it. He has got a good touch and can pass reaosnably well but he is not one to stand up and be counted when you need it so I would go with Forster every time.
As for set plays - corners etc, SAM, you have got to be the only winger who has never taken a corner in your life! Why persist with Borrowdale, must have been over 10 wasted corners...at least Borrowdale has height - get him in the box and let Sam swing it over, after all Sam is never going to win a header and can't shoot from outside the box so is not needed for corners.
1 goal in it, it's definately not over and i am hoping Paynter will remain injured, just need some belief, some better defending and a bit of luck and we can still get through. unlike many on here I would not throw everything at it to start, as long as we don't let one in in the first 30mins we can start to push on from there.

This is going to sound stupid but I think Parky realises we only have two decent strikers - Burton and Forster. He wants at least one of these fully fit and going for it in the last 30 minutes. Burton has to start as he is the only one who can hold up the ball. Forster is a goal threat but is probably more effective when the opposing defence has tired a bit. Neither Mooney or Sodje are a threat on goal at all. If we start on monday with Burton and Forster upfront and they run themselves into the ground for the first 70 minutes without much joy then Sodje and Mooney will come on and we will be screwed as they are a lessor partnership. Of course the danger is we could be out of the tie by the time that Forster comes on.
I cant emphasise how much we need kyle Reid to play for us. It really winds me up seeing him being wasted on the bench. Forster hasnt done anything wrong, so why give Mooney a start. I know some people on here think Mooney is seen as a scape goat etc but the geezer is pelt. He needs a few months on the weights. Absolutely shocking last night. Sam Sodje had a stinker aswell. Still, we got away with it and theres everything to play for monday night.

You coming down to the Valley on monday? Maybe you can take a long look around our stadium then come back and tell me that our clubs are of an equal size!
Atmosphere wasn't helped by the roof, I was on the left side and could hardly hear the drum which was only a few metres away. Done us up properly there. Shame we can't get the away fans at the Valley put in the West like Pardew wanted to do as the Jimmy Seed really helps sound travel.
Swindon came out much stronger at the start of the first half, I was shocked by how lacklustre the players seemed. Sodje seemed right off the pace which was a real shame. I hear he's injured so perhaps Parky was desperate.
As for Mooney, he didn't have a great game but he's certainly no worse than Akpo, who in my opinion is one of the worst strikers we've ever had, Bradley Allen included. Bailey was poor I thought, hopefully he'll relax more at home on Monday.
Agree with everyone who thinks we need Reid, Bailey moved and Forster in for Monday night.
Very nervous now as Swindon are quick on the break so sitting back will suit them now and we could get caught :(

I know what you mean. Really would consider starting Akpo, and maybe even having McKenzie on the bench in Mooney's place. Mooney for me is fine against the lower clubs in the division, but not the bigger games, he's just not effective. Against Colchester we got further up the pitch because Akpo was always there to challenge for headers, and even if he didn't win them, their defenders headed the ball out for throws or back to us. They win the ball much more cleanly against any other striker, especially Mooney, and then we have fight for the ball again. I don't care if we play use Akpo like that on Monday if it means we create more chances and then hopefully score a couple of goals.
I would have McKenzie, Mooney, Akpo & Dickson on the bench for the home game - we need to win it so we need the choices...it still gives us another sub which was enough for clubs only a couple of years back!
[cite]Posted By: rocking robin[/cite]I must say the valley looks very good on the telly and with 20,000 in there it should be a good atmosphere , one thing i keep getting reminded of is that how big you think you are compared to us ! well it really doesnt matter does it ! look at forest against blackpool . If we play well and get a goal i really think the fans will turn and that will help us , time will tell i guess .
You keep getting reminded of it because you rather stupidly suggested we are of an equal size. Glad you now accept that we aren't.

You mean like happened vs Leeds when Mooney came pon a pulled their back 4 about and Akpodje scored the winner?
In terms of goals per start the stats are as follows:
Mooney - 1 in 4.2
Akpo - 1 in 2
Forster - 1 in 4
Forster only has one goal in open play, all of Akpo's have been from open play.
I'd start Forster on Monday but I think it's misleading to suggest he's carrying signinficantly more goal threat than anyone else in the squad right now.
Personally I don't think Forster started as Parky wanted him fresh for Monday, probably didn't think his legs would take 2 games in 3 days and just wanted us to still be in the tie after the first leg.....however Mooney is quite possibly the worst striker I've ever seen in our red shirt and I've seen some poor ones....
Forster must start up front, Reid on the left with Bailey in the middle with Semedo (a bit unfortunate on Racon but needs must)
I have a feeling the only change will be Forster for Mooney....Reid won't get a look in till half time if we are still behind.
Also special mention for Borrowdale, jesus that boy is lucky we really don't have another option at left back !
Onwards and upwards though, the result last night could've been alot worse and I still think we'll do it Monday...think we could need extra time and pens though...gonna be a cracking night.
I really find the moaning about The County Ground strange. I thought it was a lovely little town football club, very 3rd division. Do people really want football played in places like the Emerites? I certainly don't.
We were right near the drummer and the singing/chanting sounded good. Just shows that some times you can't see the wood for the trees.
Did not mind the ground at all, last there in the eighties, thought the stewards were fine and told us we could stand if we wanted to or sit why we liked.
The team were no different to much of this season. Can pass the ball around when they want to but no invention or cutting thrust around the box. i still beleve that we do not have very good footballers or a particularly good manager but I live in hope for monday!
Rocking robin - the only one on here who keeps going on about the size of the clubs is you. Yes we're a bigger club than you, yes we have a bigger ground than you, yes we have more fans than you, but that counts for nothing on Monday night. If the size of a club and its supporters won you games then leeds would be in the top half of the premiership and Blackpool would be in league one.
A few Charlton (myself included) gave Swindon stick over their inability to sell out for their biggest game of the season and yes we may not sell out either but give it a rest going on about how we think we're a massive club.

The gung ho approach that culminated in their second goal is unforgivable in my opinion. Why?
Usual Charlton decent atmosphere pre match followed by relative silence during the game.
We are still in but I just dont see it happening, draw at The Valley I reckon.
What are the words to the Darren Ambrose song? Made me chuckle

Was madness to play Mooney yesterday.
Forster & Burton to start.
Get Bailey in for Racon and get Reid in.
Why we didnt just play Burton on his own with 5 across the middle is beyond me.
Forster must start up front, Reid on the left with Bailey in the middle with Semedo (a bit unfortunate on Racon but needs must)
