  • Sorry to piss on everyone's strawberries, but IF he did get the job and things didn't work out and we again miss out on promotion, will everyone still hold him in such high esteem? I think its a bad idea at the minute to be honest. We need a manager with experience and cahoonas - not a Charlton legend who makes us smile. Shame we can't even attract League 1 manager though!!
  • Apparently being confirmed tonight.

Could be the exact type of manager you need.

    I make you wrong Paul.

I think we can/could attract a League 1 manager quite easily.

    booo hisss, go away !!
  • Paul, tell me what manager you expect us to realistically get to guarantee success?

[cite]Posted By: robert[/cite]POWELL to the people....fans on charlton life initiate the hiring of a footballing legend

Don't think we can claim we initiated this - it was whoever put £100 (or so) on him at 33/1 bar which must have spooked the bookies...own up, who was it????

Yeah, come on, own up, AFKA. Bet you're taking the entire clique to dinner at the Oxo Tower on your winnings, eh?
  • I agree Paul. He is a Charlton legend why risk that, we need to get promoted this season so need an experienced manager. Get him is as a number two maybe but not as manager now.

I do love Chrissy though and will support the appointment 100% starting on saturday
  • Paul this is a thread of positivity. Pleeeease, don't ruin it ;-)

Manager with experience and cahoonas, OK who?
  • You can't buy the lift Chris would give to the whole club. That lift in turn with some shrewd signings could work out very well.

What if we employed Mourihino and it didnt work out, buddy

There is an If with every single manager out there no one gives us 100% certainty, the one thing the club has been lacking for the last 4 years is unity,

if we can all unite over this appointment

hopefully that will carry through to the team.

the one thing that is certain this buys the club time
  • Andy Ansah is on Twitter saying he's had news that made him want to sign
  • @officialansah: I am buzzing buzzing buzzing I want to share the news now but I can't I have to wait! I want to run around naked and scream on the streets!
  • [quote][cite]Posted By: AFKABartram[/cite]THE SECOND COMING OF CHRIS-T[/quote]

Brilliant...except this will be his fourth (?) stint at the club....
  • If he does get it as it would appear, that will be the fourth time we've signed him. I wonder if he will register as a player as i'm pretty sure he still is at leicester.

So it was Rachel Riley after all.
  • [cite]Posted By: Rothko[/cite]Andy Ansah is on Twitter saying he's had news that made him want to sign

they were mates from their Southend days

Ansah's son is at our academy I think

I wonder if he'll be joining in some capacity too.....to display his tekkers
  • PaulCAFC - Glenn Roeder has plenty of experience & certainly big cahoonas given what he's been through - would he fit your bill?
  • [cite]Posted By: Rothko[/cite]Andy Ansah is on Twitter saying he's had news that made him want to sign

    SING lol.

The guy is very very excited. I think its going to happen folks.

    What does this mean!!...tell us!
  • I think Sir Chris Powell would be a good manager at Charlton.
  • .....

    I could hardly believe it
When I heard the news today
I had to come and get it straight from Charlton Life

    They said you were arrivin'
That we had swept your heart away
From the look upon your face, I see it's true

So tell me all about it
Tell me 'bout the plans you're makin'
Tell me one thing more before I go

Tell me Powell am I suppose to live without you?
Now that I've been lovin' you so long
Powell am I suppose to live without you?
And Powell am I suppose to carry on?
When all that I've been livin' for is gone

I didn't come here for cryin'
Didn't come here to break down
It's just a dream of mine is coming true

And how can I blame you
When I build my world around
The hope that one day we'd be so much more than friends

And I don't wanna know the price
    I'm gonna pay for dreaming
Even now it's more than I can take

Tell me Powell am I suppose to live without you?
Now that I've been lovin' you so long
Powell am I suppose to live without you?
And Powell am I suppose to carry on?
When all that I've been livin' for is gone

And I don't wanna face the price
    I'm gonna pay for dreaming
Now that our dream has come true

Tell me Powell am I suppose to live without you?
Now that I've been lovin' you so long
Powell am I suppose to live without you?
And Powell am I suppose to carry on?
When all that I've been livin' for is gone

    :)
  • Sir Chris cant do this on his own. We need players in and the ability to pick a player who can get us out of this league. Chris with an experienced number two ---yes.

That might be Peacock he was with Curbs for awhile as number two.

Curbs as a Director of football? if that happens then we must have money----which i doubt as we couldnt get Howe away from Bournemouth.
  • I would probably prefer to see Garry Johnson take the job. He has managerial experience at this level and has done reasonably well with the available resources - not sure what happened at Peterborough. He is a 'no nonsense' manager and won't be the 'friend' of the players which Parky was and I feel Chris Powell would be - he's a nice bloke. We cannot afford not to be promoted this season - thats the bottom line. I actually thought that we now had money to attrract the right manager, but maybe not. Why would the likes of Howe prefer to stay at Bournemouth?
  • [cite]Posted By: WSS[/cite]Paul, tell me what manager you expect us to realistically get to guarantee success?
That's the thing for me, no manager we can realistically attract will guarantee success.

Anyone with experience who is interested in managing a League One club has failed at some point, or is a young manager themselves. Most of the good managers in this league haven't been managing for very long.
  • Can I be the first to suggest that if he gets us promoted, he is immediately elevated to the peerage as Lord Powell of the Covered End?

Or if he can avoids the dreaded play-offs and get us up automatically, perhaps even beatification at St Chrissy?
  • [cite]Posted By: Oakster[/cite]PaulCAFC - Glenn Roeder has plenty of experience & certainly big cahoonas given what he's been through - would he fit your bill?

Nah - crap coach and manager!
  • did say on earlier postings that we need a manager who isnt all nicey ,nicey, but if powelly gets the job i could make an exceptionthe man is a total gentleman he bought me a beer in the millenium lounge a few years back also had a chat with my little girl and signed her shirt for her ,maybe that shirt might be worth afew quid in years to come the man is different class and i dont think i could ever say abad word about the man ,come home sir chris .
