This has pissed me off. Last night planning out a weekender in Brizzle for Kets' birthday, now am NOT looking forward to watching the game indoors or down the pub. Brilliant.
This game is too close to shift to TV escpecially with all the games that were called off due to the weather, there is no moral fibre left at any level of football it seems.
Sky are to blame, it's them that waves a 'carrot' of a pittance like holding a knife to the throat of a club like Bristol Rovers for switching this game. Moan and email them as much as you like it will not make one jot of a difference.
IF however you want to get some annoyance off your chest, fire it in SKY's direction and demand a personal response especially if you are a SKY subscriber
Just a brief follow up to my correspondence with the club yesterday. I understand that they are speaking to train operators to see if anything can be done for those of us who had advance tickets booked for the Saturday. If you haven't already been in touch with the club then feel free to whisper me your details along with how many tickets you had booked, how much they cost and so on and I will forward this on to the relevant person at CAFC. I think they are keen to get an idea of how many people stand to be out of pocket.
[cite]Posted By: ISawLeaburnScore[/cite]Sorry mate I wasn't pulling rank or anything when I mentioned that, just trying to put forward a point of view.
I agree with what you're saying and technically what you're saying is spot on in principle, my only point is that it just won't work like that in the 'real' world.
Didn't take it that way at all Isaw.
When you qualify you'll need to learn to have long arguments about hypothetical situations (and charge through the nose for it) though) :-)

That's probably why he spends time going around in circles with us windbags on here.
Surely there has to be one major criteria with short notice re-arrangement of match dates to suit Sky.....?
Once tickets for a fixture are released to away clubs to sell to their own fans, a game cannot be switched to suit TV arrangements.
There could still be other situations like postponement due to weather, supporter safety or something unpredictable - which of course may be unavoidable at the last minute.
But deliberate re-arrangement for external commercial reasons like Sky poxy TV should be restricted to a date before tickets for the game go on sale to away supporters.

100% agree and it is this exact point that we have made to the FL and the club. Responses awaited. Good news is that the money the club will get should cover the fine for the streaker.

Sorry F&H but I'm not going to not watch the game... they hold us to ransom as well as the football clubs, they know if they have the rights they have the power over the supporters who'll do anything to watch their team...
[cite]Posted By: floydandharvey[/cite]Absolute numpties at Sky. Anyone who has ever paid any money to Sky is personally to blame. I wouldn't have their garbage in my house and never will. Good job I was worried about the weather so paid extra to get a hotel room that was refundable rather than paying for the same room in advance for less. Would have been £150 out of pocket otherwise. Sky are scum, and anyone who funds them should be ashamed of themselves. Boycott watching the Rovers game on TV because of this. If you hear any Charlton who watch it on TV name them and shame them on here.
I pay for Sky TV, Internet & Phone. Im sorry. I will not be refunding any travel expenses. I will be watching the game from the comfort of my front room.

That'll be me then! Sorry everyone, it's mainly my fault because I choose to watch more interesting TV channels than the four cruddy ones supplied for free ;-)

[cite]Posted By: ISawLeaburnScore[/cite]Come on F&H, a bit strong that post weren't it?!
An absolutely ridiculous argument. Whatever pay TV supplier had football - and it would be a pay TV supplier as nobody else was much interested pre-Sky - would be doing the same thing! You may as well say that all sport should be banned from TV completely to prevent anything like this happening.
Why doesnt everybody boycott the game on Monday to make a point as that would look bad on skys cameras and perhaps the club would think twice about stitiching up it's supporters for what will be 8k after tax?

Sorry mate, but my love of Charlton is stronger than my hatred of Sky.
[cite]Posted By: ISawLeaburnScore[/cite]Our away support may as well have been a boycott at Northwich.... turn up as usual and nobody will know the difference ;-)
Would achieve more than moaning about it on the internet ;-)

floydandharvey you are one of a few people on here that I hardly ever agree with anything you say.
Are you serious or are you just a WUM ? (Not saying you're wrong of course as it's your opinion or is it ?)

Not just that but an ill informed wind-up : - )
While F&H totally goes over the top here and elsewhere to get a reaction there is a grain of truth in what he says.
By signing up for Sky the football industry and it's fans have handed over power to them. Most weeks Charlton supporting Sky subscribers get the chance to see other teams play at odd times so they watch at home or in the pub. In this case it is Charlton fans who are inconvenienced.
Most fans, I would suspect, understand and accept that, even if they dislike it. The issue here seems to be that the change of date was made so close to the game rather than the principal of pay to view TV. We sold our souls to that devil a long time ago.

Think Henry is spot on. We all know Sky call the shots but the main issue is how close to the game this has been changed.
The Os match was announced a long time before Xmas wasn't it?
However, I think the 10k figure has surprised a lot of us and makes you realise just how little TV money there is for clubs outside the Premiership
anyone know what Championship sides get for a televised match?
[quote]anyone know what Championship sides get for a televised match?[/cite][/quote]
I think it increased significantly at the start of this season when the deal changed and Sky and BBC shared the rights. Seem to remember Steve Waggott pointing out that we'd be missing out on a lot more this year than if we'd been relegated in previous seasons, a bit like the year we got relegated from the Prem.
Still cannot believe that the money we get from Sky at this level basically covers the losses made on the gate.
Charlton are asking supporters who have booked train tickets with Great Western Railways to contact the Valley commercial centre so the Addicks can gauge how many fans are affected by the change of the date of next month's match against Bristol Rovers.
The fixture against the Pirates - originally scheduled for Saturday, February 13th - has been moved back to Monday, February 15th (7.45pm) for live Sky television coverage.
But with match tickets having already gone on restricted sale, that's prompted complaints from supporters who have organised their travel to The Memorial Stadium.
"We understand the issues fans have with the game being moved after tickets had already gone on sale, and we've made contact with Great Western Railways,” said Charlton managing director Stephen Kavanagh.
"We're waiting for them to come back to us with any ideas. Great Western are understanding of the issue and sympathetic to the problem, and are looking into the matter, but they are also constrained by what they can do. One of the problems is that people who buy tickets in advance are not entitled to refunds because they benefit from reduced prices."
Kavanagh added: "At this stage, it would be helpful if those supporters affected and who have bought Great Western rail tickets could give their details to commercial centre staff so we can gauge the numbers affected."
Since the decision by Sky to move the fixture was announced on Wednesday morning, a number of supporters have contacted the club to protest about the late change of date.
Indeed, many have blamed the club for agreeing to the game being shifted, accusing Charlton of greed and wanting the additional television revenue.
Steve said: "We should make clear that the club was not involved in the decision-making process and had no input other than being informed of the change, and the revenue, while welcome, is not as much as fans may think. We understand these decisions are difficult for both fans and Sky, whose support is important to The Football League."
Around 400 tickets of Charlton's allocation for the trip to Rovers had been sold when eligibility was extended on Wednesday morning.
Any supporters requesting a refund due to the change of date should visit the Valley commercial centre in person or call 0871 226 1905. Fans who paid by credit card will need to have the same card to hand to have the refund credited to their account.
Charlton have 800 terrace and 1,000 seated places for the game, which are now on sale to all season-ticket holders and Valley Gold members, who can purchase two tickets apiece.
Fans who have purchased places to at least two different away fixtures this term can also buy up to the maximum number of tickets purchased for previous away games.
Standing places in the uncovered terrace are priced £15 adults and £8 over 65s, students (with valid NUS card) and U16s, while seats in the covered Beck's South Stand are priced £17.50 adults and £9.50 over 65s, students (with valid NUS card) and U16s.
There are 10 ambulant disabled places (including a free helper), and three wheelchair spaces, priced £8 (including a free helper). The match is all-ticket, so no tickets will be available on the day.
Places are available in person from the Valley commercial centre and by calling the ticket hotline. Depending on availability, places will go on general sale from 9am on Wednesday, January 27th, at which stage tickets will be available online.
Details of the Valley Away coach service, priced £16, can be found here.
