  • I'm going in any case - already got my ticket & would probably go if was switched to 3am thursday morning !!!!!!

My main moan is that I have now got (another) free weekend and have to take the kids out somewhere !!! lol

Seriously though, this is really bad form and somebody, soon, should do something about it before Sky really do p**s of the real supporters !!!!!!!!

Got this response from Sky after e-mailing them....

    "
Thank you for your email about change of date for the Bristol Rovers v Charlton Athletic game from 13/02/10 to the 15/02/2010.

Can I take the opportunity to sympathise with the fact that you are out of pocket due to the change of date. The decision to reschedule the game is not Sky's decision alone and is done in conjunction with the Football League the clubs and local authorities. The fact that your club sold you the tickets on the basis it was to played on the Saturday 13/02/10 and has now been moved should be taken up with them. As I am sure you can appreciate Sky try to announce in advance with as much time as possible which games they are going to show. We then hope that the clubs can try to accomodate their fans as much as possible when it comes to the selling of the tickets. "
  • ok, copied the email to sky sports too via that online thingy
  • i have a feeling the FL will blame sky, sky will blame the clubs, the clubs will blame the FL and no one will admit responsibility and the fans just have to lump it.

as i said, it suits me better as I couldn't make the saturday but will be able to watch this now, also walsall even though i was up there wasn't a complete waste of a weekend do feel for you guys on the trains.
  • as suzi says, horrendous blame game coming right up!
  • I have just been asked to correct my own Figures, but this will p*ss people off even more we will make the grand total of £10k as the away side from SKY for this game. Home side gets £30k. :-(
  • So the club have basically made back what we've (the fans) lost out on ?
  • Really? Have to say i'm stunned at those figures... I had no idea they were so low and always thought televised games meant an equal home/away share in the TV revenue

shows what an FA Cup game on TV means to these lower division teams. for a team that is maybe on telly once a season, the difference is about 60k between an away televised cup game and an away televised league game then....

A lot closer to that then I'd imagine but I suppose we haven't laid out £10k in liability between us.

I'm absolutely incredulous it's that low. I believe Premiership games are £Xm per game aren't they?

Premier Games are different it's about £550k for the home team on a Super Sunday, Saturday & Monday games are a bit less. Away team gets the same amount as the Home Team.

    Different feckin world !

  • Thanks for the insight Ketman, just shows you the world we live in...

In television revenue terms on your figures we are a 25th of Burnley (they are away to Villa the following "SUPER" sunday) pffffft
  • this is why it was so important we went up from the champ the year we erm - didn't.
  • I have just received a very detailed and helpful email from Steve Kavanagh at CAFC. He has specifically asked me not to reproduce it on here, but said that I could advise Lifers that the club is trying to get a position agreed with First Great Western Trains for fans who had already booked to travel on the Saturday.

I would suggest that any train travellers in the same position as me let the club know asap so that they have an idea of how many people are affected.
  • Doing a few basic figures, Bristol rovers might get 30k from sky but they'll probably lose that in ticket sales.

Assuming on a saturday we'd take 1400 but will now take around 400 that's 1000 fans at £15 a ticket, so they lose out on 15k from us lot. If the home fans equally decide to stay away in similar numbers they don't actually make anything.

Whereas for the away side, it's 10k more than we'd get if it was on the saturday. Oh well at least that'll pay Moo2 for a week and a half!
  • They should be a rule about this, I'm going to contract the football forum who are a kind of union for football fans.

Nearly spent £35 on a train ticket on Saturday but I thought I'll wait to hear back from a mate, a lucky near miss.
  • That's me buggered too.

    I can't get home afterwards.
  • Contact the FSF here

they are a very good cause who concentrate on providing a voice for fans stitched up by the OB, Sky and even their dodgy clubs
  • [cite]Posted By: Oggy Red[/cite]That's me buggered too.

    I can't get home before mate ;-)
  • just to let people who have already booked train tickets know, mr largo has been in touch with the club today and they have said they are contacting First Great Western to see if they can potentially make some sort of arrangement with them as per Hartlepool's deal with Grand Central trains. I wouldn't be too optimistic about this but you never know so fingers crossed if you are in the same boat as mr largo and myself with pre-booked train tickets.
  • [cite]Posted By: ISawLeaburnScore[/cite]Mate I agree with you and as a (future) trainee solicitor I am aware of the contractual considerations, I'm merely treating the situation from a practical point of view. Honouring the contract of sale will be seen as refunding the price of the ticket. I am afraid that on it's face that's that. There is no obligation to reserve travel in-advance (you may live in Bristol for example), although for example I regularly do this, and I assume (as with Walsall), if you do it through an organisation other than the club, it's at your own risk.

Ah right, I suspect that means that I'm on shaky ground and you know more about this than me. That said (as I'm interested in the principle) I still think that consequential loss could apply if someone were to test it, on the grounds that while you're not obliged to purchase a train ticket or hotel room in advance it's not unreasonable to think that some people will have done and suffered a loss as a result. Obviously if you lived in Bath and booked a ticket via Scotland to get there it wouldn't be in any way reasonable. But a Londoner could surely argue that - having gotten a ticket in their hand that they can reasonably go ahead and book a train? Obviously he'd be obliged to seek a refund himself at the earliest opportunity.

I don't think it should matter that you didn't buy the travel through the club. If a builder dropped a ladder on your car it doesn't matter that the loss he caused you wasn't bought from him. Your honour.

  • Sorry mate I wasn't pulling rank or anything when I mentioned that, just trying to put forward a point of view.

I agree with what you're saying and technically what you're saying is spot on in principle, my only point is that it just won't work like that in the 'real' world.

what's really disgustingly ironic is that Sky will benefit from this in terms of the fact that many of us will end up watching it on tv.
  • Indeed fatso. and by rescheduling the game they have directly stopped hundreds of people who would definitely have been at the match attending. how is that good for the game of football?
  • Was going to book up this week a hotel for 4 persons in the Malvern Hills, taking in the game at Bristol Rovers on the Saturday. Needless to say, with the game being rearranged for live tv, at such short notice, a bit pissed off. This game would involve a 1200 mile round journey for us. Now have to try to rearrange. What would have happened re hotel and travel arrangements from the continent? Whoever is to blame: get your act together!
  • I likewise am very p***ed off with the late change. I and several others have already lost our money for the Walsall game and now this!!
I have sent the club and email and await their reply.

6 tickets to be returned and 6 rail tickets paid for . What a fu*king disgrace !

All for £30K for Rovers and £10K for Charlton, which Rovers will lose in gate & catering revenue.

Our 400 supporters will have already shelled out more than the £10K CAFC will get.

    400 tickets at £17.50 = £7k
    50 train at £20 = £1K
    Hotels etc for weekend trips.

    Did I say it's a fu*king disgrace !

I think most Charlton fans would stomach this if the club made a decent wedge out of it but the fact that SKY pay £40k for a Leage one match but £1m for a Prem league match goes to show what great gulf their is now between Prem League & the rest of football.

PS I would also like to add.....It's F***kin Disgrace !
  • Feel sorry for people who had already made travel/ accom arrangements for the original date.

But welcome to my world as it happens for home games too! Think it was three times last season that I was mucked about...either by TV or the weather.
