Just got round to watching Suicide Squad ( after the..ahem....rave reviews on here ). Too much going on and too predictable. Some good bits but overall felt like they wanted to get it over and done with as quick as possible for a 2 and a bit hour film. The Joker ( what little screen time there was of him ) was shit too. But hey, Margot Robbie couldn't bend down or walk off in the distance without showing her butt off so that made up for everythingzzzzzzz......
I saw Sing last week. My daughters loved it, but it didn't amuse me at all. Definately one for the kids, and be guided by the name. The singing goes on and on. Has anyone seen Hell and High Water? It's got rave reviews, and arrived in Spain on friday. I'm itching to see it, and suprisef no one mentioned it on here.
I saw Hell and High Water a while ago. Not sure why I didn't review it, but I really enjoyed it, and recommend it. Very watchable with a decent story.
Same here - it's in my top five of the year. Quite understated though, which is worth mentioning. I've told a few people how much I loved it and they went in expecting something a bit more epic.

It's my favourite film of 2016
I was saying that until I realised The Big Short came out in January!

Right, definitely not a latest film but somehow managed to watch fight club for the first time last night, don't want to spoil it incase there is somehow still other people who haven't seen it but.... Did it all happen? Or did nothing happen? I'm leaning towards nothing.
It all happened (if you really fear spoilers stop reading this). But when you see Tyler doing something, it was actually the narrator doing it on his own.

watch it again and again, I love that film... though it does hit some boring spells.

I did really enjoy it and will definitely rewatch at some point.
Went with my nieces to see Moana on Monday. loved it. was nice to see a disney film that wasn't a princess love story. Got 2 songs in my head from it. Apparently doing badly at the box office, as people don't want a Disney film without a princess and a love story but reviews of those that did bother to see it have loved it!
(Definitely stop reading now if you haven't seen) so... Really 'Jack' an insomniac creates an alter-ego 'Tyler' to get away from his life, which we see in the flashes of Tyler at the start of the film. I can see that bit, it also makes sense that 'Tyler' rigs his apartment to blow up forcing him to go and look for somewhere else to go... At which point he rings Tyler, 'they' go drinking and end up fighting in the car park, really him hitting himself then go to some empty house that Jack knows exists somehow.
I could literally go through the entire film like that but I better not, I've seen theories online that Marla and Bob arent real too, that 'Jack' isn't real even and that whoever the narrator really is 'rupert' 'cornelius' is in a mental hospital telling a story/ dreaming. Others that project mayhem and everyone in it is in his head too and it's all a fantasy from the hotel that he sees Marla living in, though he in reality lives there after destroying the condo. My god I could go on all day, then there's all the emasculating stuff in the film. It goes to show how good a film it is that so many questions are asked of it but I'd love to be able to really wrap my head around it.
Fincher makes the twist abundantly clear when he shows the Narrator punching himself. I don't believe for a second that he intended to imply that it was all a mental hospital fantasy (which would be a really lame storytelling device that I don't think Fincher would care for). Everything happened except the Narrator did what Tyler appeared to be doing. Everything Tyler knew, he knew. And in the case of the house, maybe that came from his subconscious.
There's some great subtext, and plenty of irony (for example, Tyler/ Pitt decrying models in advertising, which of course is what Pitt used to do, and is effectively doing in this movie) but in regards to the plot, what you saw was supposed to have occurred.
So, this is a good time of year for movies what with The Oscars coming up.
Went to see Manchester by the Sea on New Years Eve. I would definitely recommend this. A good drama with very good character development. Very sad and a bit of a tear jerker but not in a mushy kind of a way. Also uplifting as well.

For me, 9 out of 10 I would say.
Thanks Rob. Seeing a free preview at the local Picturehouse on Sunday morning (a surprisingly excellent time to go to the pictures as you're out in time for a proper pub Sunday roast). It doesn't look a laugh a minute, but there's been some good stuff on recently and your review is encouraging.

Just back from this. Completely agree with Rob's review. One of the very best I've seen in the last year.
Anthropoid, based on a true story in world war 2, without giving too much of the plot away, starts off slow, and gathers momentum, would highly recommend, shocking some of the stuff that went on, and that people could treat other people so bad.

Took my 5 year old daughter to see this last week... We both loved it. She likes her Frozens and Tangleds, but liked the stupid parrot just as much. Good family film. Had me welling up as well.
I watched Louis Theroux's Scientology documentary the other day. It's worth a watch especially if you like Louis. But overall personally I was disappointed. If you haven't watched much on Scientology before then it would be better I think. It pretty much uses the same people who have escaped from the church as a lot of other docs but doesn't go into too much depth.
I would throughly recommend a documentary called Going Clear which is without doubt one of the best documentaries I've seen. Much, much more informative.
Going Clear is great. I watched it last year and there were so many 'what the....' moments for me. Totally mind-boggling. I had always liked Tom Cruise but not since I watched this documentary film. I was surprised to know that even people like Paul Haggis had fallen for this ridiculous 'religion'.
Watched Going Clear Wow, jus fckin wow.
Ive not watched anything that jaw dropping for years.
Went to see La La Land yesterday, won't say too much as wouldn't want to spoil it, but did come out feeling slightly disappointed.
After seeing Silence the week before, I wanted to come out of the cinema tap dancing this week but didn't.
Next week - Jackie.....
Have to agree, after all the 5 star reviews and awards I was expecting a lot more. It's a very old fashioned film in many ways and I guess hit the sweet spot in the reviewers and award judges nostalgia for what Hollywood used to produce.

Very watchable with a decent story.
As others have said, it's a bit chaotic at the start but once it gets solidly into the action it's a good addition to the genre.
Some of the CGI on Peter Cushing and Carrie Fisher is a bit iffy.
Vader is awesome.
The film itself is ok, although the storyline is silly. Jennifer Lawrennce is ridiculously attractive, so bonus points for that!

Long. Bleak. It's not the sort of film you can 'enjoy' but it was good.
