It is quieter after a win than after a defeat. I certainly haven't seen Choice DJ or any of the other new "members" who were so keen to spout off last week
You are picking a midweek game v Colchester and a game at the other end of the country v a 5 - 1 home win.
''You are picking a midweek game v Colchester and a game at the other end of the country v a 5 - 1 home win.''
Excuse me! That's ridiculous. What else am I meant to compare with the response to Saturday's win? It was claimed that it is quieter on here after a win than a defeat. So I looked at our only two league defeats. Which apprently is ''spin''?
If you are saying last season it was quieter after we won than when we lost, quite possibly true. But we won so few games that Bob Worcester would probably tell you they didn't add up to a statistically reliable sample!
And for the record, no I was never a Labour party ''spin doctor''. I was press officer to Neil Kinnock in the 1987 general election. I never worked for the arch-spinner and war criminal Blair. I've known him for 26 years , though, and knew from the very outset that he was ambitious and unprincipled and not to be trusted. I even told Kinnock so, but he didn't believe me!
So when someone asked last week after the Northwich game somehting like "will it be as busy on here if we win on Sat (v MK Dons)" and I said "It won't be, it never is you decide that that rather than compare last week with this week you as the question asked you'd go back to Colchester.
And as I said you are only comparing one thread, the match thread, which as they were away games will be smaller as fewer people will have been at either than at a home game. You also continue to ignore all the other threads started such as the 100+ "Mr clueless" thread.
No-one seems to have mentioned it yet so I will: the 5th goal was created by a wonderful Beckham-esque 30 yard cross field ball from Basey, headed on (by Sam I think) into Burton's path. Which supports the view that Basey does have excellent distribution.
There has been more traffic on here about Saturday's win than our only two league defeats, including supplementary threads to the main post-match thread. So nobody is ''ignoring'' anything. That's the exact opposite of what we were told would happen and I ,for one, celebrate that.
Charlton fans really are among the most loyal in the league...
Let's just leave everyone else to make up their own minds up as to who is ''spinning''. I'm off on a city break hol with Mrs W to Budapest this afternoon , so got to fly...
great performance, deserved victory, plaudits all-round. Just as some say that some fans went over the top over the recent poor run others are now in danger of doing likewise over one good performance. Let's see if we can go on a sustained run before we start getting carried away. However, with better and more varied options upfront I'm hoping things can change for the better and the signung of Sodge 2 and the near fitness of MacKenzie amy hopefully allow Deon to have his op without disrupting us too much.
After the last few performances I would happily have settled for a scrappy horrible 1-0 just so that it stopped the run and stopped a crisis coming which would have overshadowed the very good start we have made to the season. To get a 5-1 against one of the best teams in the league was great.
Bailey was excellent through the middle and gave us an urgency and bite we have been missing, whilst Sodje just keeps getting better.
A lot of criticism has been heaped on Parkinson which due to the results and performances in the last 4 and although it was understandable it was great to see him get that kind of performance out of the team as well as changing the formation and some of the players around.
All in all an excellent day – now let’s build on that at Yeovil.
Well said Large, a great performance but calm down everybody! Sodje's brother is being talked up as something special and he hasn't done anything yet! And David Mooney's the new Andy Hunt! And the referee had a blinder! A reality check please, let's just hope that we keep our feet on the grond and perform the same way at Yeovil.
And anyone who thinks that ref had a good game needs their head tested-he was the biggest homer ever. Although no complaints from me..................
People certainly aren't making rash predictions of "we will win the league by easter" or "we are in the top two by devine right" in the same way that plenty were saying "we'll be out of the top 6 by xmas" and "we are only second by default"
Large, I agree with rest of what you are saying but you are putting words in the mouths of the "optimists".
Also from what PP said Burton won't need an op so more good news.
And Dean Sinclair is almost ready to return which must cheer you up as well : - )
[cite]Posted By: Henry Irving[/cite]Sinclair and Bailey were a great combo with Barnet. It is all slowly coming together.
And it's all thanks to Pardew. He knew we'd have to get relegated to League One before Sinclair and Bailey taking us into the Champions League... or maybe not
