  • actually felt like we had forwards in abdundace today
  • watched bbc highlights great clearance by youga but def fortunate that daily game call was missed. Both pivotal moments in the game
  • Yeah Nolly after today I'm quite happy with our frontline. Mooney, Mckenzie and Sodje all look useful and Burton had one of his better games.

Against Yeovil I'd definately start one of Mckenzie or Sodje as we need the pace.
  • mooney with mckenzie and sodje on bench, rest burton or get op,though he was great today
  • Yeah I'd agree with that mate. Got a bad feeling Parky will go with Burton again though when against teams like Yeovil the deciding factor is often a forward who can get in behind
  • Well Done Parky for making the changes and getting the players playing (Something the so called doom and gloom merchants have been asking for). And well done the players for responding and playing some decent stuff.

We rode our luck at the start, should have been 2 down and later Mk should have had a penalty, but everyone responded and showed what they can do. Now we have to do that every week. Obviously not score loads, or even win outplaying the opposition. But we need to compete at the level we know we can and give ourselves a chance, which is what's been missing the last 2 months and been so frustrating.
  • Interesting that so many of us want to give the ref a big pat on the back when he missed one of the most blatant penalties you'll ever see. It's funny how we football fans rate officials. Terrible errors in our favour = brilliant ref.
  • When we first signed Bailey, everyone was saying, at last we've found the midfield dynamo we've not had since Parker left.
Well yesterday we got our dynamo back, and what a difference it made. We finally played some proper football and by the end you could see that the players were once again enjoying themselves. When Bailey ticks so does the team.
Lot's of lessons were learned for the fans and hopefully Parky.
We are good enough to go up. We do have a very strong squad. We should not fear anyone. We have to play 442 at home.
Lets learn from past mistakes and move onwards and upwards. COYR
  • how annoyin had ticket but at centre parcs at mo, havingwicked time even better now might charlton won! Did think we would win but didnt expect 5 1 wat a result now gotta look 4ward to highlughts on monday.

Not as bad as the Ref years ago Wales v Scotland, when Scottish player did a dailly and won a penalty, which ultimately put Wales out of the world cup ...

  • Glad to see Parky making some changes after the dross of the last 4 games. I watched on Bet365 and I thought Bailey in particular was magnificent. Excellent performance.

I think it wrong however to criticise people who were moaning on here last week. They were after all moaning after 4 absolutely diabolical performances. We need the next three performances to be as good as yesterday just to make up for them.

I don't know if I'm supposed to be one of these moaners that lots of people choose to slag off but even if I'm not I'm writing now to stick up for them. They were right to moan -it wasn't good enough, and one excellent performance will mean nothing if we slip back into such lacklustre, lazy rubbish.

All that being said, well done to the team and if you play like that every week then no reasonable person will moan on here even if we lose.
  • Thought Sodje was excellent today. Also liked Basey when he came on, he has a sweet left foot and great delivery. He got caught in odd positions a couple of times but a bit of experience on his positioning and he'll be a good left back.

Jimmy....you and the vast majority of posters that had a moan had some very reasoned and justified complaints...NO ONE and I repeat NO ONE is/was saying that folk can't come on here and air their disquiet.
However, it became patentley obvious over the last week or so that there was a small 'brigade' who plainly came on here to make some very nasty and uncalled for comments...in my and many other posters opinion that is.It is those guys (who you never hear from from one day to the next I may add) to whom a degree of antipathy exists....and rightly so IMHO.Some of the comments were way OTT.....I'd say there was possibly half a dozen or so at the most.
    Cheers.
  • Just a side thought arising from yesterday : I wonder if we have seen the end of 4-5-1 for the foreseeable future, or whether we will revert to that as our favoured away formation v Yeovil, with just Burton up front?

Now we have decent attacking options for the first time, surely very hard - and quite expensive - to sit McKenzie, Mooney and Sodje all on the bench ?
  • Looking on the bbc highlights of the game, Dailly was definately pushed causing him to put hand to ball. Mk
done themselves no favours with the ref, constantly whinging throughout the game.
Good team performance, constantly looked like we could score.
  • Just watched the highlights, agree with cblock, def should have been a penalty but these things happen.

Wilbraham looked great for Franchise, hadn't realised how many chances he had.

We looked very good, every goal was class.

Hopefully we have now seen the end of 451 at home. We are good enough to beat any team by playing good football with a 442 formation at home.
However even with the side we had yesterday, it would be easy to convert it into a more defensive 4411 away from home by dropping Burton a bit deeper into the "hole" with either Mooney, Mckenzie or A Sodje up top.
  • Bailey at long last in the middle made a huge differance. You could actually see what a player he is at this level.

Richardson also made a differance and Sam looked more confident with Richardson behind him.

I thought it was an MK player who handled the ball, but on TV it was clearly Daily.

17,000 in those conditions and after such a bad run was also very good.

Now that is a very good point, fully agreed!
  • Congratulations to the team, after an even 1st half with chances at both ends, they went up it a gear and dealt with the conditions. A high work rate, a refusal to be intimidated by a team that typify their manager and then the skill to finish the job off. Not perfect but very good none the less, well done! Also a special well done to Parky, hope the negative people will now back off, for a while at least.

  • One of my favourite moments was when Puncheon got the ball on the left and attacked Richardson and we looked very vulnerable. I turned to my mate and reported that Parky was going to sign Puncheon but the Directors had pulled out of the deal. Puncheon then made a hopeless scoop of the ball and fell over onto his back as the ball dribble towards the touch line. Quite hilarious. My mate drily said he would fit in with us very well...
  • just sobered up great performance, thought Mooney was very good.
  • I agree with northstand and thought Mooney performed well, especially as a partnership with Burton. I was a bit gutted for him when subbed but could understand it, its all good future games.

Best pefromance iv seen from a striker in a charlton shirt in a long long time
  • By the way, it seems to be a bit of a myth that there's more traffic on here after we lose than when we win. The last post-match League thread v Carlisle got 105 posts in five days. This one already has almost 90 in less than 24 hours...

Yes, but if you apply the theory that the number of posts has a direct correlation to the number who saw the game, then you would have to conclude that the high volume of posts about our deafeats to Northwich and Southampton were not because we lost, but because a hundred times more people saw the games live on TV than were at Carlisle and the Valley combined !

That is exactly the point I have been meaning make on here over the last few days i.e. one of the reasons, I think, for the large number of negative posts after the last two games is simply the number of fans who saw the games because they were live on television.

His movement all game was good and the way he lost his marker for the goal was great to see. Hope he can continue this form as he definitely gives us more options up front.

He reminded me of Andy Hunt and he played up front.
