From a personal point of view I remember "Curbs" saying many moons ago, "I try not to get too excited when we win and too disappointed when we lose" and its an attitude I try to adopt in many things. Just keeping smiling and dont let them grind you down lifes to short, Charlton have been cr*p for years we had a purple patch and now its gone full circle and we are back we started. Wrong decisions have been made by chairmen from Glikstein through to Murrey and by managers Foley through to Parkinson, but I will be there on saturday have a couple of beers with a few mates some of who I met through this website, and win or lose I will return home to whats important to me. Dont get me wrong I love my club, the only thing that has made me cry outside my family is Charlton but it is not the end of the world if we get beat. We were a premiership club with premiership players we are now a division 3 club with division 3 players, the standard is lower than it was but it appears some of our expectations may not be. Its not for me to critcise folk on here who have their opinions like I have mine, but once I see where a thread is going I make a decision as if I'll continue reading it. But one I have noticed I'm less inclined to read this mb after a game, thats win or lose.
For people complaining about new negative posters, I only signed up during the Carlisle match because the match thread was moved to 'members only'. I don't know if anyone else was in the same situation as me, but if they were, that might help explain. Three defeats since then in three competitions.

I've been a lurker for a while but thought it might be a good time to sign up and perhaps balance things out by being a new member not just looking to vent.
Look, being a Charlton fan requires a little bit of gallows humour now and again. You can make your points, you discuss them, but at the end of the day you have to lighten up at least occasionally. I received a huge amount of stick from my housemates for the N.V. result and yes it hurt and yes it raised some valid criticisms of our team, but it didn't make me forget everything good we've ever done this season and believe Charlton to be doomed. Well directed and thought out criticism is fair, constant anger and misery is not.
I understand there are those who post negatively but constructively and I don't think AFKA was speaking about them; more the caps-lock-busting anger of those who drown out everything in a froth of indignation. There's a big difference between 'I've got some serious concerns about Parky and areas of our team because..." and "PARKY OUT! HE'S CLUELESS! USELESS!". It's about encouraging the right form of debate. Sometimes I just want to get the sense that these people aren't salivating over the potential 'I told you so's to come, and that it genuinely hurts them to have to say this about their club, rather than enjoying sticking the boot in.
Yes it's not a nice time to be a Charlton fan, and yes there's justification for some despair at the moment. But why wallow in it? Why cut off decent debate about the merits of 4-5-1 or the mistakes of Parky simply to make an unsubstantiated grumble that everything ever is absolutely terrible. Just as we weren't immortal when winning all those games at the beginning of the season, we've not suddenly got a terrible group of players now. Some have reasons for an optimistic view of our chances to turn it around, and some have good reasons for a more pessimistic view, and I respect both viewpoints when well argued. What I don't respect is the blind fury of those that have extreme reactionary pessimism and want to tell everyone about it, over and over again.
what i dont get is when you lot moan when someone post in caps ock WHEN I DO IT IT'S BOCOZ I DONT REALISE IT'S ON AND CANT BE ARSED TO CHANGE IT.honestly i find it amazing people moan when people post in caps lock, you
people have spent too much time being brought up on computers and too much time being brought up on the internet.Maybe i'm ignorant but i would much rather pick up the phone and chat to someone than text or e-mail them.

Fair enough if that's the case for you, but it evidently isn't just an error for some. Unless they coincidentally keep slipping on the caps lock key whenever using the phrases 'Parky out', 'Sack the board' or 'Not good enough'

Excellent post from Rodders, but equally excellent posts from many that hold different viewpoints (Big Stem, Sussex et al).
Here's the problem with this board. You get a bunch of people who only read opinions that they broadly agree with and then pipe up with a little "What X said" or "Great post Y". They then shoot down the opposite point of view because it fails to confirm their own world view. This is a debating tool, but it seems to be used as a place to hop up on your soapbox, catcall the "opposition", say your bit and hop off without having allowed an iota of information into your head.
Rodders post, particularly, is constructive and reasoned and worth thinking about even if it's not where your brain is at, right at this moment.
There's also a lot of silly point scoring on here, specifically around people glorying in negativity. I remember when we were spanking Tranmere you could barely get on for happy posters. At least the "realists" didn't come on and moan that people were being over-positive.
[cite]Posted By: AFKABartram[/cite]The thread has gone off at a tangent but has gone completely off course now, just to say that an enforced monthly subscription thing will never ever happen, so end that conversation now.
We've mentioned on numerous occassions over the last year that we may introduce some form of voluntary contribution at some stage, like the majority of other bigger sites do, to help offset the costs involved, but until that stage this aspect of the conversation should be dead in the water.
Why not do a organised(shambolic) end of season drink at the Anchor?.
Lay on some sandwiches, everyone sticks in a tenner and pays for the site?
Not that people on this site like a drink or 20 eh. . . .

It was Morts, but it wasn't in relation to what this thread was about (in fairness, nor have hardly any).
The thread was started because i have noticed that there seems to be a growing trend that the ONLY time some people post on here or start -strong opined threads, is in the aftermath of a poor performance. That then helps set the tone for the following period, which isn't really reflective of the vast majority who post REGULARLY on here, and in terms of negativity or criticism, or normally more constructive with it.
It is others who have pointed out that some of these over indulge in CAPS LOCK SHOUTING and silly stuff like F*** off Parkinson etc.
Repeat, at no stage did i ever say anything about having a problem with people posting what is perceived 'negatively'.
What i do have a problem with is if the forum is purely being used only to vent off or start what is perceived as contraversial topics, and nothing else. And when i hear or read people who have been consistently respected posters on here over a period of time state 'they won't look at here in the aftermath of a defeat' then i have to look at whether they are being overly defensive, or whether they have a fair point.
Of course, none of this would actually be necessary if the team got their arris in gear and actually had a good season, something we've not encountered since we started this site :-(

Steady Stevie, youre begining to show your age mate
It's an interesting thread this, says a fair bit about human nature.
People have a natural tendency to say "I told you so". As someone who was strongly in favour of freshening up the team long before the wins stopped, I can really understand that, and I've done it plenty, so I'm quitting that now. But everyone does it. All the people that are moaning about hearing the moaners will not be above logging on, on Saturday evening, to challenge the critics if we storm to a 3 nil win, will they? People like to hear similar views to their own and they enjoy trumpeting when they get proved right as much as they hate hearing others crowing when they are proved wrong.
Personally, I stayed off here yesterday, because I'd just had enough Charlton after Sunday and Wednesday's treats (more because I wanted to take a day to reflect before moaning, rather than worrying that someone might offend me with negativity). It's as easy as that. It's not like food or water, I've found I can survive without
