[cite]Posted By: ValleyGary[/cite]Be interesting to see if the boards as busy if we win comfortably on saturday.

They never are and never have been.

i find it's generally like that in the pubs after games.
if we win then we celebrate but hardly mention the game.
if we lose we greet each other with "what a load of **** that was" and carry on moaning about individal performances/selections/tactics for the rest of the evening.

like goonerhater said earlier in the thread. people only fill in customer surveys to complain.
  • One swallow does not a summer make. Or something silly like that.
  • Yes you are both right, the board should not have listened to the fans and should have kept sir alan for another season like he wanted to. I am sure the board are regretting that decision but we all have to live with it and get over it. It's gone now.
  • I think this is the wrong way round personally.

I think to ignore the serious problems at a club from board down and just try and make the best of things is actually more negative than posting things that highlight the increasingly visible flaws in our current makeup.

I’m a supporter of Charlton Athletic….the club. That is in priority of the board, the management and the playing squad all, of whom will come and go with varying levels of frequency and impact. Yes I will support the above when I see that their actions are doing the “club” good but then I will also point out and criticise when they aren’t.

I’ve contributed many overly optimistic views on this board but at the same time have now realised that we as a collective fan base need to wake up and get a nostril full of the Kenco that has been brewing under our noses for the past few years and is very nearly at the boil.

Appreciate the hard work that goes into this board and respect their prerogative to control what is broadcast. I cannot however see what positive things are happening at our club and therefore can’t see how the focus can be spun positively when all I can see is damage unfolding both on and off the pitch.

We have a manager who has won about 19 games in the 55 odd he has been in charge, a board who have openly admitted that they are looking to sell which highlights their lack of interest in our future compared to the appetite they once held and we have gone from being a club held aloft as a model of financial stability to being a thin line away from administration.

As I say without pouring over the same old “negative” details I just find it hard to see anything of real positivity happening at our club in the current situation and actually find it more negative us sitting here just hoping the enchanting football pixies will work their magic and we’ll wake up and it’ll all be ok if we just sit tight and wait.

Sorry (and no disrespect to anyone involved as you all work a lot harder than me for the club) but I fail to get excited when told that the top items on the agenda for certain meetings are things like end of season DVDs and changes to the booze sold at half time when the real issues are skirted around for whatever reasons and apologies if I don’t think “Well let’s all have a disco” every time we are reminded it’s been a lot worse and that we have got to like it or lump it and keep schtum if we are displeased with what is happening.

Just because you don’t agree with a government and voice that it does not make you any less patriotic or not want the best for your country…in fact often those who stand up and criticise a failing, flawed regime actually have the long term interests of the country more at heart than those who toe the line with de rigueur.

    Good post.
  • its that what they talk bout at meetings, end of season dvds?
  • Fans Forum are not elected to discuss footballing matters - but to express collective supporters viewpoints on everything else.
  • sound great.
  • Funny how some people on this thread have ignored the op by AFKA and have instead decided to focus on the problems they see with the club. That isn't what was asked, there are thousands of other threads to post in for that. I would hazard a guess that it is these same 'members' AFKA is referring to.

Absolutely, point totally missed. Didn't read it as saying "you must be positive" or "there is no reason to be negative" but can "members" be fuller members of the community by not just posting OTT after defeats.

Can't read AFKA's mind but I would say not.

  • I may be wrong here but I interpreted AKA's original post as primarily expressing concern about the level of abuse and the general tone of some of the negative threads and posts on here lately. He was not saying people should not start/make negative threads/posts. I don't mind the occasional swear word but last night it got out of hand and was just plain abusive. I have been on forums where every single post seems to be an angry abusive rant or response. They quickly become very boring and eventually become dominated by people who are unable to communicate in any other way.

Having said the above I still think the Grimsby fan's rant that was posted on here yesterday was a work of art and was very funny. Although, it was so well written that I am half expecting someone to point out soon that it was lifted from a sketch show from some part of the world!
  • I can definitely see where AFKA is coming from. One of the most obvious things is that a thread will start off for the post-mortem of the latest debacle and, instead of posters simply adding their views to it - we get a rash of multiple threads all basically addressing the same issue. That must drive the admin mad and understandably so.

But the fact that Northwich Victoria got to sing 'you're so sh1t it's unbelievable' at us on national television and seemed justified in doing so is going to lead to some serious spleen venting. If someone made the arduous and lengthy journey all the way up there only to face humiliation and misery then I think they have every right to let off some steam. Let's face it, we have all seen something worrying happening to our team in the last month or so, and we are justifiably concerned about it. However, as always, constructive criticism will always be better than downright negativity, which as has been pointed out, can become a depressingly inevitable self fulfilling prophecy. Us as Charlton fans certainly have to learn from past mistakes in that regard. But that should not make us blind to the obvious either, even is it is unpalatable.

I think people do sometimes go right off at the deep end however, and could possibly benefit from a few moments of reflection (because sometimes a sense of perspective is missing) before they post. Like in certain situations in life, it's often best to calm down before you go and do something rash which you may later regret!

As to whether AFKA & the other admins decide that they need to intervene in some way, then that is their decision to make and no-one else's. They are the ones putting in the hard work and expense (which IS much appreciated, btw) to make it all happen and they can bloody well do what they like. If others dislike it then there are other boards (which aren't anywhere as good, and we all know it) to which they can take their opinions.
  • agree with Big stem
  • I blame the bird off Countdown. Since she's covered up everyones been miserable.

What we need is a good old 'Would Ya?'

    spot on.

What we need is a "top five songs to sing to a "Would ya" at a Rantic v Celgers match" thread to cheer AFKA up ; - )

....finishing up with a chat about dogging.
  • I have been a member since the summer and have really enjoyed reading the posts on here, lots of great debate and intelligent conversation. Maybe Charlton Life is getting bigger and more popular? It’s the best site, so is it worth adding a subscription to pay monthly, every 3 months or for the whole year like the CAFC player? The funds can go on the upkeep of the site and towards the running of Charlton Life events/sponsorship etc

Would this work? Would people pay to use this site? It would weed out the people who are not true Charlton on here.
  • No way would i ever pay to use a forum and im sure many would not and just move onto the free sites

True Charlton weeding them out FFS dont talk utter shit
  • I dont think a monthly subscription or any payment plan would work. Look at before we played Northwitch, they joined our board for some banter and it was all very pleasant. I believe some people from on here met a few of their fans for a drink at the game. They would never have come on here if they had to pay.
People just need to respect the admin's decisions and suggestions. I agree that the site is maybe becoming more popular but if people join just to abuse the threads and to let off steam, then AFKA & co. will have no other alternative than to place moderators/restrictions on the website.

  • The thread has gone off at a tangent but has gone completely off course now, just to say that an enforced monthly subscription thing will never ever happen, so end that conversation now.

We've mentioned on numerous occassions over the last year that we may introduce some form of voluntary contribution at some stage, like the majority of other bigger sites do, to help offset the costs involved, but until that stage this aspect of the conversation should be dead in the water.
  • Also i think people need to stop flexing their muscles on here.

Your on a internet forum...your not hard, so stop trying to be.
  • Fair enough, was just a thought. Keep up the good work AFKA
  • I'll pay 50p a month subs
