It's a bit cowardly isn't it? They are in effect using Richard Murray as a defensive shield trading upon the high regard in which he is held. They make the decisions and he takes the flak.
CHARLTON chairman Richard Murray says he has complete faith in new boss Phil Parkinson - and said he appointed the 41-year-old because he has the passion to get the club out of trouble.
In an exclusive interview with the South London Press, Murray said the former Colchester and Hull manager had improved performances since taking over and laid much of the blame for the Addicks’ current plight at the feet of former chief Alan Pardew.
When asked why he had appointed Parkinson to the job on a permanent basis, despite not winning a game under his stewardship, Murray said: “It is always difficult to know what to go for - experience or an up-and-coming manager, or something in between.
“I remember when I joined the board in 1991, many directors were pushing for a big-name manager to be appointed.
"However, for financial reasons Alan Curbishley and Steve Gritt got the job because they were already at the club, just like with Phil.
“I was criticised when they were appointed and I was criticised when I chose Curbs over Steve, but Curbs turned out to the best manager we have ever had.
“Phil, Mark Kinsella and Phil Chapple have the right passion and ability to give us the best chance of survival, so that is why I appointed them.
"If you look at our recent performances, I have seen a huge improvement and we could have won almost all of the games that Phil has been in charge of. I know we need to get a win soon, but I have complete faith in Phil.”
The Piece to the SLP was titled "Murray why I appointed Parky"
Murray has lined him self up with this one that is why i mentioned the comments not We or the board but I
Sorry mate he is still the man if not he is being ridiculously nieave and hanging his nutts on the line for chapple and waggot
I like that article going on about the success Murray had with Curbs, NLA. Doesn't mention Dowie/Reed funnily enough, which you'd think would be fresh in his mind.
Parky is a good man and a committed man that is just not working out, horribly. As he thrashes around to try and find a solution, he seems to be getting it more and more wrong. We were massively lucky at Norwich who were even worse than us, and at Wednesday he put out a team that was doomed to fail from the off. What he's doing with Dicko and why he's collecting average central midfielders, is a mystery.
He may well be the nice bloke that he seems, but a nice bloke isn't what is needed to sort this mess out. We need someone to come in and kick the players up their underperforming arses. Someone with no agendas or preconceived ideas. Someone who can see what is needed to improve confidence and performances, and someone who will let the players know in no uncertain terms that they will be out if they dont perform. Someone who wont continue to pick defenders who dont defend properly, and wont continue to regularly pick forwards who go ten games without bloody scoring.Someone with the nerve to give the youngsters the chance to make their mark.Someone who doesn't undermine the players by bringing in endless loan players who are no better, but who jump straight into the team.THE RIGHT TO PLAY HAS TO BE EARNED. Im afraid, nice bloke or not, Parky isn't that man......Sorry,rant over.

We can criticise the decision to appoint Parky but don't knock Murray for giving him a ringing endorsement. What else could he have said:
"Well we're potless, we can't afford anybody decent so I went for Parky on the basis that he was cheap. I don't think he'll make any real difference because that c*nt Pardew has spent all our dosh on a load of three legged donkeys and to add insult to injury, we've had to pay him a squillion pounds so that he can appear on every football show on TV and Radio rubbing our noses in the crap he left behind......"
That's maybe what he'd like to say, (well at least the bit about Pardew)...:o)

That article doesn't look too good for Murray.
"Well we're potless, we can't afford anybody decent so I went for Parky on the basis that he was cheap. I'd rather Parkinson had some kind of memory loss and forgot he had anything to do with Charlton, going AWOL in the process.
He already has. He's forgotten how to win.
