i spent the weekend in portsmouth and went to see havant & waterlooville against chelmsford city. it was an excellent game and i saw more passion in the havant players than i have seen at charlton for months. and thats what we're missing, passion and pride and motivation - and thats down to parky. so please go mate, please leave before you destroy what little faith we have left in the board - do the decent thing and resign.
I wish it were as simple as sacking Parkinson but its not, is it?
If we sack him then after paying up his contract we will have even less dough than before to spend on bringing anyone new in.
If Parky goes then the new manager will very likely be Kins or Mark Robson because they are both cheap and available. They are also "tarred" with the Pardew brush as well.
We have neither the money or the status to attract anyone with any real calibre behind them. And I really don't believe any BS about some list of star names that the board had clamouring for the job post-Pards.
Even if there were such a list then they are certainly much less likely to want the job now we are all but doomed than they were in November.
Paolo Di Canio is not going to start his managerial career, if he ever does, in Division Three (let's call it by its proper name). Paul Ince has no intention of going back there either and Alan Curbishley certainly doesn't.
Even if Parkinson takes us down, which we can safely assume he will, then I reckon he is nailed on to stay next season until his contract runs out. I am uneasy about that but I am equally uneasy about sacking ANOTHER manager.
We have had Curbs, Dowie, Reed, Pardew and Parky manage this team over the last three years and that is simply crazy stuff.
At some point we have to back somebody and stick with them, we probably have more chance of stability and success doing that than running round sticking pins in a list of available managers.
[cite]Posted By: robroy[/cite]Did we not back Pardew?
That is true, we did and it was a mistake to do so for as long as we did.
In retrospect it is pretty clear that he lost the plot in February after Reid left and we saw the crazy number of loanees come in.
It is hard to defend Parkinson when his record is so poor in terms of points but I just feel whoever we bring in right now is going to struggle with this group of players.
Pardew, quite frankly, left behind an absolutely shocking squad for this division and Parkinson has been left with that legacy.
He deserves, in my opinion, a close-season to bring in and sell who he wants to and to have a fresh crack at it next year.
He knows Division Three and has done well there with Colchester with no money, I would like him to have a crack next year with our kids plus some judicious cheap buys from the lower-leagues.
I just feel that going round sacking managers gets us nowhere but circles.
Don't see any point dismissing him now, as it is too late for anyone competent to save us. He was a terrible appointment that has had consequences that any clued up fan would have seen as obvious. Not for the first time. Hopefully some of those responsible will step out with him.
If someone else good comes in now, they'll be stained with the failure. New man for next season please.
Norwich Sack Manager they win next game scoring Four times
Forest Sack Manager they win next three consecutive games
Charlton Sack Manager & appoint Pardews right hand man & team gets worse. It's not rocket science, enough is enough for me he has got to go.
Parkinson wasn't my idea of the next manager, but he said all the right things and the team performance was improved even if the results weren't good enough.
But when he said after the Weds game that he and the players need a break from each other, then something is clearly wrong behind the scenes.
To me that matters more, than a poor performance on the pitch.
So if he has lost the dressing room, he's got to go.

We're now 8 points behind the safety line, 3 wins needed just to catch up.
Parky's not going to do that, because the players apparently are not playing for him.
A new man at Forest turns them into a side who now believe they can get out of trouble.
And at Norwich, they have a man there who has never managed before - yet can motivate the one team that actually lost a match to Charlton.
Come on Richard Murray & Co. You can't have a ship without a rudder.
Seeing what happens to other teams that make the right managerial appointment just makes it all worse doesn't it. Nice bloke, but he isn't doing it and so he has to go.
When Oggy says that a manager has to go then we are really in trouble. Dont dislike the man, but was gobsmacked when we appointed him.....we seem to be on a road to rack and ruin right now and its going to take balls for us to stop the rot.....and sadly I dont think anybody at the club has any left.

And how are Derby getting on under their new manager?
I agree Parky has to go now as the results will only get worse with him in charge. Us the fans could manage better than this guy, we couldnt do any worse!
Send all the loanes back and cancel Burtons contract if we can as he will not score enough. Why oh why have the board not listened to us fans as we are a family club and we made a difference when we got back to the valley.
We are a club in crisis and I hope the board will do something now as I have been reading on here about protests etc.
I have watched the addicks since I was 5 and I am 36 now and I have never felt so bad about our Club in my lifetime, fingers crossed chaps but I would not hold your breath!
Looking forward, isn't the board going to have to invest some more money at some stage or risk losing everything? It's either now or next season when revenues really drop. I still can't work it out. Why sack Pardew and then put Parky I/C? We could have had the same results under Pardew and saved his pay off money. But if the board is going to have to invest some more money, I would rather see it go on getting Parky out. Even though it is highly unlikely to save us this season, it might just be enough to stop supporters giving up every last shred of hope.

Wasn't it the choice between new players or a new management structure?
Now the new players have been two loanees here for a month, not sure if theres anything else being looked at while. But surely if Pardky still can't get results come the end of the season the board will have to pay him off to get a new man in.

They won't, they'll say he's proven in League One, and believe with patience and the right signings he'll take us up.
He could do, but after the Sheff Wed defeat it's hard to imagine it happening.
Oggy, only just read your comments of five hours ago and I am really sorry even you have lost faith.
I guessed that you were upset, because you and me were fooling around on the match thread here at five to three on Sat about how you were going to rally the troops and pick us all up every time a Wednesday goal went in - then when it was obvious that the team hadn't even bothered to turn up, you went very quiet and we didn't hear from you again.
I also said privately on Sunday to one of the most regular and familiar-to-us-all CL posters that of those who have refused to be critical of the team, manager and board, you were the one I totally respected above all others because you have no agenda or motives other than a pure and unadulterated love for Charlton.
So when even you - the truest of the true - write ''Come on Richard Murray & Co. You can't have a ship without a rudder'' , I really, really hope they are reading and listening to what you say, because something very rotten indeed is going on...
I feel a change is required. I don't really have anything against Parkinson, but the players need to hear a different voice. Our situation reminds me of when Mclaren took over from Sven. Also, I feel that although Parkinson has a decent record in League One we could go the same way as Derby who were banking on Paul Jewell getting them straight up this year with his proven Championship record but too much rot had set in. I think we could have the same problems next year!
I've tried hard to stick by him and find some 'green shoots'. But now I'm feeling like Baroness what's-her-name with that approach!
Let Paul Mortimer have a go:
- Charlton legend
- Belives in football the way it should be played
- Has a track record of rebulding a side that has reached rock bottom
- Also proven he can manage a bunch of girls, so should get on well with this first team squad ;-)
(And I'm allowed to say that because I'm female...)

Hi Nigel, thanks for your thoughtful words.
Yep, I was in happy enough mood at 5 to 3 on Sat and looking forward to the match, was going to let the result look after itself providing the team was properly organised and they gave it their best shot.
But the moment we went a goal down, the board here got really ugly.
The moment we went 2 goals down, it was frustrated nasty knee-jerk stuff, no sensible debate or postings. Just plain nasty.
I don't need that in my life at the moment, so I logged off - and decided to give Charlton Life a rest for a couple of days.
People are so frustrated and just angry, I know that - that's their way of coping with this now ridiculous situation at Charlton. Today, people are mainly channeling their energy into at least more considered and thought provoking posts.
No, I haven't given up. Life has taught me that things can change, and one they do, a turn around can happen very quickly - despite being 8 points behind safety, a few wins can quickly gobble that up, as teams like Forest are in the process of proving.
But the question is, where's the next win coming from? And of course, Parkinson doesn't look like he could struggle his way out of a dish of blancmange, let alone motivate a team on the charge to safety.
There appears to be no leadership on or off the field, and the rotten smell of disenfranchised players in the dressing room is manifest in the limp displays on the pitch.
There is no drive, determination, hunger or passion shown by the team as a whole. And that is the manager's responsibility.
And his comments after the Sheff Weds game, that he and the players need a break from each other, then something is clearly wrong behind the scenes.
And if he can't manage, then Parkinson has to go.
But what has surprised me the most, is the silence from the Boardroom.
After all he has contributed over so many years, I can't believe Richard Murray for one, can just put his telescope to his blind eye.
Mr Murray, do something, please .........there is still a reasonable chance that our season can be retrieved.
But not by Parkinson.
So it's down to you and the Board to roll that dice one more time. Please.
'There appears to be no leadership on or off the field, and the rotten smell of disenfranchised players in the dressing room is manifest in the limp displays on the pitch.

It really showed didn't it? They were also very late onto the pitch to warm up. I still think something happened in the dressing room just before the game. Those comments re needing a break didn't appear on the OS. I really did believe that by the time I got back after a weekend away that Parkinson would have gone. Echo the pleas to Mr Murray, please don't give up on us now.
It seems to be the popular wisdom that 'there's no way they will get rid of Pardky. He got the job without winning, so why would they sack him for continuing not to win?'
But there must come a point, surely? I know 'one game at a time' and all that. But suppose: -
Shef U knock us out of the cup. We fail to beat Palace. Then we've got two tricky away games in four days, which we don't win. And an in-form Cardiff come to the Valley on Feb 7 and we don't beat them either.
Even if we draw one or two of those games, that would be 14 league games without a win under Pardky and one win in 17 , counting the Cup games. And at that point there's still three months of the season to go and another 42 points to play for...
If that's the way it pans out, will Richard Murray STILL be telling us in three weeks time and another five fruitless games down the line that Pardky is ''overwhelmingly'' the best man for the job?
Of course,I hope the run doesn't continue into Feb, but given our form and a difficult four or five fixtures ahead, it's more than possble. In fact, I fear it's highly likely.
So are we really saying there is no cut-off point and theoretically he could go to the end of the season without winning a game and his job would still not be in jeopardy?
Comments
He must go.
I think we should change his name to Phil Parkoutsoon.
Obvious h was too close to Pardew, he can't be an assistant for nearly two years to the man without having some sort of input.
If we sack him then after paying up his contract we will have even less dough than before to spend on bringing anyone new in.
If Parky goes then the new manager will very likely be Kins or Mark Robson because they are both cheap and available. They are also "tarred" with the Pardew brush as well.

That's Scots dialect, I take it ..... ?
I just can't understand why the club hasn't grabbed the situation by the throat.
Pardew went 8 league games without a win, Parky has now gone 10.
And the team looked clueless and disorganised against an average side but who displayed hunger and determination.
Where's our hunger and determination .....?
From the top to the bottom of our club, it seems to be the very thing missing.
s much for "caring about their lively hood" how the hell can anyteam (other than the ones at the top) want it more than ours should do ?
Send all the loanes back and cancel Burtons contract if we can as he will not score enough. Why oh why have the board not listened to us fans as we are a family club and we made a difference when we got back to the valley.
