  • When everything was going well, post Wembley, post winning the Championship, and people were posting 24 / 7 / 365 how great things are, how proud they are, what a brilliant job Richard Murray and the board had done, could you relate to them then ?

Were people out of touch, or wrong to be have additional happiness in their lives because their club were doing well ? There is always a flip side for everything.

Rothko, i fully appreciate your stance, i'm not saying it is wrong in any way, and part of me wishes my life would currently be happier at the moment if i could adopt more of it myself.

But i genuinely have no idea of what your motives were for putting yourself forward for a fans representative position when by the nature of your posts over the last couple of years, you quite clearly can't relate to, or have contempt for so many fellow fans.

Sorry if that appears a personal dig, i probably haven't worded things greatly.

I know from my own experience that the written word can convey a very different impression to the spoken word and that is the one drawback of a forum like this.

I've had as many dingdongs as most with Rothko on here about various things and it would be easy to form an opinion about him based purely on those.

However I've also met him in real life and to my amazement he wasn't a lycra clad tofu eater at all! In fact he comes across as a very nice genuine bloke.

If we are honest perhaps we all have a tendency on here to veer to extremes at times for effect and emphasis.

I think Rothko can do a job as fans forum rep from my knowledge of him.
  • [cite]Posted By: LenGlover[/cite]Nothing wrong with a bit of gallows humour!

The fact is a lot of fans have got what they wished for. They moaned about boring mid table Premiership football and wanted the manager out.

Well now "they have their Charlton back" a crap side at the bottom of division 2 like we were in the sixties and seventies apart from a few seasons in division 3.

We all express our frustration in different ways.

    my sentiments exactly....

don't know what other way you wanted it to appear
  • In fact Dan, as you are the man of the people, so in touch with everyone, why don't you replace me on the forum?
  • is that a genuine offer ?
  • FFS people.
    Lets agree

WE ALL SUPPORT CHARLTON ATHLETIC AND WE ALL WANT TO BE HAPPY !

(But some people are Happier than others !).

Please, "chill", "Live, love laugh & be happy" !

    No f***ing chance is it.
  • Actually, it's funny, cause the same pops were made at Ben when he was SD on Netaddicks and on here.

  • it's a difficult situation isn't it,i for one would love to see someone of that position go in and really put the views of the fans across.I suppose this is the first time since the implementation of SD or Fans Forum that things haven't been hunkie dorie.I would hate to think that when people are elected they go in and suck eggs.
  • however rothko why offer afka the chance and then follow it up with no effing chance.
  • being a sarky bastard thats why
  • Jesus - chill out everyone.
  • oh but out this is a good thread ;-)
  • it's an impossible situation cos you're dealing with a whole host of differing views and imo (unfortunately) you're up there to be shot at cos people are odd
  • Exactly, but you know, express your own, and your out of touch, follow the crowd, and you're being a sheep and have no independent though. Stay quiet, and then you're accused of doing nothing, do too much, and you're a busy body.
  • Wait a minute, do I read that Rothko is being slated on here because he has a mind of his own, refuses to follow the kneejerk moaning mentality - and therefore cannot possibly be representing the interests of fellow supporters in his role on the Fans Forum ?
  • So don't apply then! ;-)

Is your position as Shit stirrer in chief up for grabs yet?

  • I sincerely hope not Oggy.

This has gone well off track and should not turn into being what effectively is a character assasination.

    Rothko, i'll contact you privately.

no oggy what we are asking is as fans forum will he represent the views of people he doesn't necessarily agree with ?

Do you want me to teach you how ?
    ;-)
  • but also why start a thread you know will cause a stir if you aint up for it and i haven't dug anyone out just asked questions in a civil manner.

Perhaps because he hoped we hadn't completely lost our sense of humour and would be able to laugh at ourselves?
  • Hello everybody!

I actually was going to balance that posting on All Quiet with something a bit less sarcastic, but then couldn't be bothered. If people think I'm having a dig, good, because I am. If people think I'm being condescending - sorry, but please don't expect me to identify with or feel sorry for grown adults bleating the same old misery on messageboards 24/7.

Yes, we know the arse has fallen out of our football club with alarming speed. You don't need to keep repeating it. Much of the time, this board has become like being stuck with a collection of pub bores, forever getting louder because you don't share their particular volume of outrage. Ever been stuck in a boozer with one of those? You don't need to treat those who are trying to stay positive through trying times with such contempt.

Just let them be, and maybe think before posting. Yes, Charlton depress me at the moment, but there's other things in life to keep my spirits up. I just don't think repeatedly droning on about how bad things is going to do anyone else any good.

(I think there's wider issues, which I've mentioned before, about football being a lightning rod for people's other problems in life, and a culture of entitlement which has spread into other spheres, but that's probably for another day.)

Frankly, I'd rather treat our problems with gallows humour than outrage. I don't have any bright ideas to turn things around, other than a clear-out of the management team. Want to be in a really scary situation? How about waking up in charge of Charlton Athletic? Frankly, unless any of us suddenly has a multi-million pound windfall, there isn't much we can do other than offer our support where needed.

And in any case, I fear the times when our support will really be needed - like Charlton needed their fans in 1984 and in the early '90s - are yet to come. We're in the middle of a brutal reality check, and worse is likely to come. Struggling at the foot of the Championship may feel like a nirvana compared to what's to come. That'll the time to lose sleep. Not now.
  • but ali a lot of the views being pointed out are what people firmly in.

Not everyone has that benefit in their life, especially in the current climate.

Football is supposed to be something that brings enjoyment, so for me at least, it's perfectly understandable why some are getting so upset.
  • good post inspector, you wont mind people diggin you back then will you ;-)
